Food subscription service Freshly is closing down their meal kit delivery service.
Freshly posted the news to their website in late December. Their homepage now reads: "It is with a heavy heart that we announce the Freshly meal delivery service will be ceasing operations. This is a difficult time as we say goodbye to our incredible community." Subscribers have already been notified.
Freshly plans to offer their meals in a retail environment. “We have made the decision to pivot Freshly’s business to serve the rapidly growing consumer demand for fresh prepared meals in the retail channel," a statement to Just Food says. “While Freshly’s direct-to-consumer business will be regrettably impacted as a result of this shift, we hope to soon resume serving our customers fresh ready-meal solutions, just in the retail channel.”
It is thought that rising costs and inflation are the reason behind Freshly's move; new and existing customers may not have the spare income for meal kit deliveries.
Freshly began in 2015 as a meal delivery service in New York; Nestlé acquired the brand in October 2020.
What Else to Know
Freshly states that the last date to order a shipment will be January 17, 2023; the last shipments will go out on January 21. Freshly encourages anyone withoutstanding credits to use that credit to place an order by January 17.
