Ipsy and Boxycharm Merge Subscriptions to Create “Ultimate Beauty Membership”
IPSY and Boxycharm are formally combining their various subscriptions under the IPSY banner, Ipsy announced Thursday in a statement and email to subscribers. From IPSY:
We’re bringing the best of both IPSY and BoxyCharm together under IPSY to create the ultimate beauty membership with more perks for you than ever before. It’s a match made in makeup heaven.
Ipsy acquired Boxycharm in 2020, but now the two brands will become one, with four possible subscriptions available:
Glam Bag
Boxycharm (formerly Glam Bag Plus and Boxycharm Base),
Icon Box (formerly Glam Bag X and Boxycharm Luxe).
Most subscribers will be able to choose three products for their boxes--Glam Bag subscribers will still choose one product for their box. Here's more from IPSY:
Glam Bag Subscription Will Stay the Same (But With More Value to Members!). Glam Bag subscribers will still get 5 deluxe beauty samples worth up to $70 personalized for them in a cute makeup bag, and of course, they’ll still choose 1 of their products! But now, we’re making it extra irresistible with 1 guaranteed Power Pick—a superstar product or brand handpicked by our team of experts that will make the entire monthly subscription worth every penny.
Glam Bag Plus and BoxyCharm Base Will Now Be Called BoxyCharm. It’s the same great membership and price—now all under the new BoxyCharm name and extra perks. BoxyCharm members (all previous Glam Bag Plus and BoxyCharm Base subscribers) will still get 5 full-size beauty products worth up to $200 personalized for them, and now they’ll get to choose 3 of their items! Plus, they’re guaranteed 2 Power Picks—superstar products or brands handpicked by our team of experts—in their 5-product assortment. By removing the drawstring Glam Bag Plus, we can invest in better beauty products.
BoxyCharm Premium Is Changing to BoxyCharm + Beauty Boost. The BoxyCharm Premium subscription will now be BoxyCharm + Beauty Boost, where members still get 6 full-size, personalized products (5 from BoxyCharm, plus 1 from Beauty Boost) worth up to $240 for the same price of $40/month. Every month, they’ll now choose 3 items in their assortment, receive 2 additional Power Picks (superstar products customized to their beauty preferences), and get first dibs on exclusive, top-rated products with Beauty Boost (which they can now swap).
Glam Bag X and BoxyCharm Luxe Users Will Now Get Icon Box. They’ll still get 8 full-size, uber-coveted products (for the same price!), now with more Choice (they choose 3!) from a quarterly collection curated by one of beauty’s biggest icons.
Here's what else to know:
Choice will be on the 2nd to 3rd of each month. (In the email, they mentioned "This March" as the date the two subscriptions are merging, but April 2-3 is the first choice date mentioned in the IPSY app.)
The price of the Boxycharm +Beauty Boost box will be changing in August 2023. The new price will be $43/month (the current new member price).
Boxycharm users will soon be able to use existing credentials to log into ipsy.com.
The new boxes, again, will be the Glam Bag, Boxycharm (formerly Glam Bag Plus and Boxycharm Base), Boxycharm + Beauty Boost (formerly Boxycharm Premium) and Icon Box (formerly Glam Bag X and Boxycharm Luxe).
They've also made two new videos to share the news:

Why is it that I am being charged for boxy, charm and ipsy but only receiving one box

Body Charm, by itself, was fantastic but since joining Ipsy, it’s awful. I would rather have my money a month and buy an actual full size item that isn’t junk or no namers than a lot of this stuff. I would never seek these products that I’m receiving at a very disgustingly packed box. Products arrive broken from their packaging regularly vs Boxy Charms quality and impressive foam packaging with care. Upon opening, you felt pampered immediately where as it feels Ipsy stuffs it in your mailbox like garbage and when you open it, it looks like the quality of dumpster diving at a Walgreens going out of business.
Then there’s the actual products. This month, no cap as the kids would say now, I got to choose my products and one of many “who’s that products” was an upcoming teen who wants to spread love with glitter eyeshadow. I mean that’s sweet and all, but for the amount of money we spend a month. We want deals on name brand skin care or beauty products that we know or trust. Not celebrity kohls style or some persons nephew that just busted out their first glitter stick. Or maybe that’s just me.

Since they were bought out the boxes are filled with failed brands, the choose your items link doesn’t work and frankly, the quality of items sent are very poor. I loved boxycharm until Ipsy took it over. You don’t get what you order from the sales, then they don’t have any left when you inquire about it. The pricing on the sales jumped really high as well. I left Ipsy for boxycharm for a reason now I’m just done with it all.

I’m so unhappy about the merger & really going to miss my Glam Bag Plus along with the bag too! Ive been a longtime subscriber to both but have been skipping the last few months of my usually disappointing with no attention paid to personalization/beauty quiz preferences month after month & what I feel has been a decline in quality of brands offered, overuse of brands, repeat items with Boxycharm. I had planned to keep my membership on hold for the holidays because I do like the edit sales but was definitely quitting. So now, I just ‘quit’ Boxy through my ipsy app which has now been connected. However, by doing this I have to give up my ipsy Glam Bag X (soon to be Icon Box) subscription as it’s required in order to get it quarterly. I just wish they hadn’t replaced the Glam Bag Plus with in my opinion the inferior option, essentially a Boxycharm base because the Glam Bag Plus offered a much better experience overall with personalization, brands offered, including a selection that not only offered more current & less tired picks but a better ROI return on investment for subscribers. Hopefully they will bring it in the coming months as I’d love to have that type of option again and also the Glam Bag X (Icon) as well but from the previews/spoilers I have seen for the launch, I got the sense that for now, it’s still a Boxycharm experience- hoping for the best as I do realize that together there’s a lot of potential. Fingers crossed and just keeping my little ipsy Glam Bag subscription for now.

So long as they ditch Boxy’s “You will fill out a preferences survey and we will ignore it” system, it might be worth watching.

I only occasionally get the regular glam bag but like shopping the sales on both sites. The (hopefully) larger selection in one place could be nice.

BoxyCharm subscribers have access to and add-on, but no longer have access to the mega drop shop. That stinks. If you want access to it, you have to get Ipsy too. I’m out. That’s the final straw. The mega drop shop has been losing luster lately anyway.

You don’t have to “get Ipsy too” to access the mega drop shop” they are combining Ipsy and Boxycharm. Since Ipsy already owns Boxycharm it makes sense for them to combine them instead of running them like two separate companies.

Did some more research and although the chart does not include the Mega Drop Shop for BoxyCharm premium, in sone of the help articles, it’s says that there will still be access to it.

Does anyone know how they are going to handle charms? I have a bunch but there’s nothing in the charm room that I want.

I heard they will transfer them over to points , but if you had your charms for awhile they can expire on ipsys sight. They just added products to the charm shop so I used mines up.

Does anyone know how they will handle annual subscriptions for both boxycharm & ipsy? The FAQs say that if you have ipsy plus and boxycharm base it will be combined into a single subscription. What if you have prepaid annual accounts with both? Or if you have prepaid boxycharm base, boxycharm premium, and ipsy plus – how many boxes will you get and how will you access them?

Wish they would include the regular cute ipsy bag with the Glam plus soon to be Boxycharm sub. Still looking forward to the positive merger changes.

I don’t love this merge because I really like to stock up some months by subscribing to both plus and boxy. So only having access to one is not great for me

I don’t think this was a surprise to anyone and also don’t think it will be a huge change considering all the products were starting to be repeated in Boxy and Ipsy. But I am hoping the DropShop will not change in the sense that it’s available to Canadians with semi-reasonable shipping and the Ipsy shop does not ship to Canada. We only JUST got access to Glam Bag Plus and X last month. So as long as Canadians still get access to the shops with reasonable shipping, I am okay with this merge.

It makes sense to actually merge given the repeat products between Ipsy & Boxy. This is utterly confusing to me though. Maybe it’s because I haven’t had Boxy in a few years, but the Beauty Boost doesn’t make sense to me. While the drawstring bags aren’t my favorite, I have subbed on and off to + when there is a cute bag. I’ve had my + on hold a couple months for financial reasons, but I’ll make sure to actually cancel now. I’m happy that the base bag isn’t going anywhere! I look forward to it every month!
