First Impressions
This month included an activity sheet and a welcome sheet introducing this month's contents. This month's Little Feminist In Action activity is the "I have feelings cube". By cutting along the dotted line and folding along the solid line, you can construct a feelings cube to toss and help identify feelings.
What's Inside This Box
What Is Baby Going To Do by Laura Knowles - Retail Value $5.49
This cutie book was a big hit. Everyone loves the extra pages that fold out, especially Ronan. He is three and his little sister is 6 months old, and he loves family storytime. He especially loves reading about babies with Winnie and me, so this book was really fun to read. Not only did it open up communication about different things baby likes to do, but we got to also talk about what he loved to do as a baby and how big he is getting.
Little Faces Big Feelings by Amy Morrison – Retail Value $15.99
Winnie was absolutely fascinated by all of the little faces featured on these pages. This book is a great way to help the babies distinguish between different feelings and identify them as they experience them; plus, it is a fantastic example of the kind of inclusive, diverse content we all love to see. Of course, we also absolutely love the mirror at the very end of this book.
Discussion Questions
Little Feminist Book Club included discussion cards for each book. The messages this month revolve around predicting and emotions. Making connections between objects helps us to predict what is coming next. Emotions are complicated to describe and identify, but Little Faces Big Feelings does a fantastic job of displaying each emotion and what it can look like as well as how to deal with it in simple terms.
Verdict
Little Feminist Book Club had two awesome selections this month. My kids had a great time reading each of these selections. They loved seeing all of the emotions displayed in Little Faces Big Feelings, and they couldn't get enough of the adorable illustrations in What is Baby Going to Do and unveiling the extra fold-out illustrations with each turn of the page. The value of this month's picks comes to $20.49, not quite hitting the mark of the cost of this subscription.
After shipping, this subscription adds up to $25.90 a month; if you don't mind paying the price for excellent curation and content, then this subscription may be worth it to you. The subscription holds a value that doesn't always monetarily meet its cost, but I appreciate the service.
