First Impressions
I have to say, since I have started receiving the Sensory TheraPlay box, my classroom has become the "it" room at school. Because I work with students grades K-12, I see students with various abilities, and they have been spreading the word to other students about all the fun new fidgets that keep showing up, and I'm not one bit mad about it! Read below to see what was included this month.
What's Inside This Box
Each box comes with a one-page insert with photos of the items on the front and a brief description with their values on the back. It also includes contact information and a disclaimer about how it is the responsibility of the adult to determine whether the items included are appropriate for the child. I love the fact that this sheet specifies how certain inclusions can be used, and what goals can be accomplished. Because I work with a variety of students, it gave me an idea of which items can be used with which kids.
I love the inclusion of the inspirational quote! Printed on card stock, this postcard sized art has been the perfect addition to my bulletin board, and really spreads the positivity!
Bravocado - Retail Value $8.00
I'm just going to dive right in and start with our ultimate favorite this month: the avocado-shaped water bead filled plush. This little guy has all the sensory feels! He's soft and plushy, but with a squishy water bead filled "seed". This is the most satisfying fidget I have ever experienced and my kids are obsessed with it. Not only is this guy great for visual stimulation, but it also exercises the small muscles of the hand. A perfect combination, and one I NEED more of in my life!
Neon - Brite Ball - Retail Value $10.00
Another fantastic inclusion for March was this light up, customizable and colorful bouncy ball. The spiky surface of the ball is soothing to the touch, and fun to cap with the neon colors. Hank loved customizing this ball and it was great for his fine motor and visual motor skills. We brought this ball to school, and it has been used for small group, silent ball, and for just plain playing catch. An incredibly fun project that lead to a fantastic addition to my sensory bin, this was definitely a winner.
Air Dough Go! - Retail Value $5.00
Because our team mascot is the tiger, my boys were thrilled to put together this Air Dough Go! kit. With easy step by step instructions, we created this guy collaboratively, but ultimately discovered we fixed him up backwards. Whoopsie! This was another great activity for the development of fine motor skills and also worked on hand strengthening.
Monster Squishy Petz - Retail Value $7.00
Squishy toys are some of our faves, so we were really excited to get our hands on this squishy monster pet. Looking like a character from a Monsters Inc. movie, this guy is filled with a squishy fluff and can stretch each and every way. Very popular with all students (and adults), I definitely need to get my hands on more of these guys.
Orb Molecule Mix Up! - Retail Value $8.00
As one of our only non stretchy/squishy toys, we received this orb molecule mix up fidget. Click, twist, and move the spheres around in this multi-colored fidget. This toy can use used for providing auditory sensory stimulation, or to help manage anxiety or to help focus during homework or school related tasks. Charlie found this really helpful to hang onto while he practicing his spelling words.
Nee Doh Donuts - Retail Value $5.99
The last item we received this month was a super bright squishy donut. With icing that peels off, this guy is exactly like a stress ball, except even more fun! Another hit, I've already had requests for this fidget in other colors and patterns!
Value - Was This Box Worth It?
The Cost: $42.00 + shipping (Save with longer subscriptions)
The total retail value of our box using a mix of listed and found retail values comes to $43.99, which isn't an incredible savings from the retail price, but if you start adding in shipping costs, you are definitely getting a deal. All of this months items were really useful and fun, and my students continue to be wowed by this subscription.
Key Takeaways
Being three months into this subscription, my biological kids, and my school kids will tell you this is one of the best subscriptions ever! With a variety of sensory options, we all very much appreciate the thoughtfulness in the curation. As an educator, I have experience with a multitude of fidgets, but these were all new to me, and all very useful and helpful! Overall, this was a great box, and can't wait to see what they have in store for April!
