Allure Beauty Box is a $25 monthly beauty subscription from Allure Magazine. Each month they send out a mix of deluxe and full-size samples from mostly high-end brands. (It was named one of the best beauty subscription boxes by MSA readers in the 2023 Subscription Box Awards.)
This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)
First Impressions
The box arrives beautifully packaged in the classic Allure white and red box. There was also a helpful mini-magazine with more info on the products and a note from Allure's deputy beauty director Elizabeth Siegel.
New subscribers this month will also receive a Fenty lipstick as a free gift.
What's Inside the April 2023 Allure Beauty Box
Rodial Dragon’s Blood Hyaluronic Mask, 50 mL – Retail Value $58
This mask is made with hyaluronic acid, squalene, and allegedly also has dragon’s blood, though I’m not quite seeing that on the ingredients list. It’s a lightweight masked designed to deliver a boost of moisture to your skin and leave it feeling softer and appearing more plump, and I would say this mask successfully delivers on those claims. I don’t see myself repurchasing this once my tube is empty, but I like it enough to continue using it.
Aveda Botanical Repair™ Overnight Serum, 1 oz – Retail Value $19
I’m a pretty big fan of Aveda hair products- not only do they tend to perform well, but they also almost always smell incredible. This overnight serum is designed to strengthen your hair while you sleep, build bonds, and reduce the appearance of split ends while being free of silicones, parabens, and mineral oil. I thought the scent blend of ylang-ylang, rose, and majoram smelled fabulous, and this worked well at helping to smooth out split ends (I’m dealing with more than usual because I am overdue for a haircut).
REALHER Metallic Eyeliner in Eye Am Resilient – Retail Value $16
I haven’t seen a RealHer makeup product in a subscription box in a while! This is a pretty metallic bronze shade that has a creamy gel formula. It’s waterproof so you can apply it to your waterline, or you can smudge it out for a more smokey look.
Here it is swatched.
Commodity Fragrances Book Perfume, 2 mL – Estimated Value $5 (buy the 10 mL version for $25)
This Commodity fragrance was much more my speed compared to the sample we got to try from the brand in a previous Allure box. It has scent notes of black tea, sandalwood, and cedarwood, and I love the warmth and woodsy tones in this. It reminds me of reading a good book while sitting in a comfy chair being warmed by the sun, and it had good staying power on me.
Able Skincare Anti-Ageing Retexturing & Resurfacing Duo Moisturizer, 50 mL – Retail Value $104
This moisturizer is made with the brands proprietary Cosmetics Drone™, which means that ingredients like glycolic acid and peptides are encapsulated to then delve more deeply into your skin for efficient results. That's paired with nourishing shea butter and cottonseed oil for an overall formula that is safe for sensitive skin. I felt like this moisturizer did leave my skin feeling softer and more supple, but it wasn't enough of a difference for me to be able to personally justify the high price tag.
Flamingo Razor – Retail Value $8
I love when subscription boxes send practice products that will absolutely get used, and a five-blade razor is definitely one of those items. While I am more partial to Athena razors than Flamingo, I like the lavender handle that I received and thought it felt sturdy in my hand. The blade allowed for a smooth, close shave and I didn't experience any razor burn. I do wish the razor handle was magnetic to attach to my existing shower holder instead of plastic, but that is a personal preference. If you like your Flamingo razor after trying it out in this box, you can get replacement heads online or from Target.
Value – Was This Box Worth It?

- RealHer: $16 → $1.90

Key Takeaways
The April Allure Beauty Box was another success. My favorites this time around were the Aveda hair treatment and Rodial face mask, and I enjoyed trying out the Commodity fragrance. I was definitely pleased about such a practical item like a full-size razor being included too- I love when I get something in a subscription box that prevents me from having to spend money at the grocery store. I thought this box had a little bit of everything- haircare, body care, skincare, makeup, and I appreciate the well-rounded curation. Value-wise, Allure promises a monthly value of at least $100 and everything in the box added up to $210.
