Smartass & Sass is a monthly subscription for sassy ladies. There are 4 plans available:
Shirt Only for $19.95, Box Only for $39.95, the Big Box Subscription (which includes the shirt and box) for $54.95 and a “Small Box” subscription for $21.95. Shipping is $3.95 for the Shirt subscription and $7.95 for the others.
Each box contains 8-9 full size beauty and lifestyle items from Smartass & Sass and various other sassy businesses. The shirts are comfy unisex tees available in sizes XS-4X.

Warning: This review is not for the faint of heart! If you're offended by bad language, this probably isn't the review or box for you! If you're like me and thrive on poor language and bad ideas, this is definitely a subscription box you need in your life. Consider yourself warned!
With that said, April's theme was “Sass-tainable” in honor of Earth Day on April 22nd and is filled with sustainable, Earth-friendly items. (Note: This box was a month late due to an item being held up in customs.)

F*ck Laundry Dryer Ball Set - Retail Value $18.95

These dryer balls are adorable! They also smell fantastic and come in a cute, convenient carrying bag. Plus, dryer balls are good for the Earth because they eliminate the need for fabric sheets in the dryer. The insert in the box says that they will keep your clothes soft and static free while being easier on your machine as well as a chemical-free alternative.
Very High Maintenance Planter Box - Retail Value $9.95

This wouldn’t be an Earth-friendly box without a plant; so here it is. And since it’s from Smartass & Sass, it’s snarky as well. This hilariously decorated wood planter box comes with the peat soil and seeds you’ll need to grow large leaf basil. Add water and follow the super simple directions on the label; you’ll have a tasty herb in no time.
It comes with everything you need to start the plant but not the green thumb required to actually grow it. That’s on you. Which means this is being gifted to my niece because she’ll actually be able to enjoy it. If you’re black thumbed like me, it would also make a fun pencil cup!
Recycle Your Sh*t Shampoo & Body Bar - Retail Value $11.95

This soap smells amazing. I can’t stop sniffing it. The insert in the box says that the scent is “Avocado” but I beg to differ. I live in the (unofficial) avocado capital of California, and this doesn’t smell like avocados. Which is great; they don’t seem to have much of a scent anyway. But this soap does and it’s fantastic. If I had to pick a name for the scent, I’d guess maybe a cedar or other earthy aroma. Whatever you call it, it’s intoxicating and I will be buying several more bars. That’s saying something, because I’m not much of a solid soap user, but I can’t put this bar down! A bonus: it’s also a solid shampoo bar! That reduces so much packaging!
Dirty B*tch Silicone Loofah - Retail Value $9.95

I love this thing; it feels really neat on your skin! The longer bristles are gentle and perfect for lathering on body wash, while the short nubby side feels like a massage! Plus, it’s earth-friendly because it doesn't harbor bacteria like a loofah does, so you don’t need to replace it every month. Not to mention, it has a snarky phrase on it so not only will you laugh your sassy butt off, there’s no confusion on who it belongs to!
Where’d My Day Go Pencil Case - Retail Value $8.99

Next up is this fun, vibrantly colored pencil case. How exactly does that fit the “Sass-tainable” theme? It’s made from 95% recycled materials! Which isn’t just great for the environment, it makes a sturdy, water resistant fabric. This is the perfect way to store the set up 12 limited edition Smartass Sharpie markers that subscribers will collect this year.
Broke A*s Leftovers Container Set - Retail Value $24.95

I’ve received food storage containers in other boxes, but these are by far the best. They’re really well made and are clever in their design. They pop up to hold food or down to store in the cupboard. The lids feature a clamp style that locks each side down, ensuring a seal that prevents leaking. They’re also microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe! Plus, the funny phrase ensures no coworkers would dare steal your meal! I’ll definitely be buying a few extra sets as Christmas gifts.
Big Dish Energy Swedish Dishcloth - Retail Value $6.95

This Swedish dishcloth is rather clever. It’s meant to replace about 17 rolls of paper towels! It can be used with or without cleaners for dusting, dishes or cleaning countertops. It’s washing machine and dishwasher safe, plus it’s compostable and biodegradable once it’s done its job.
This dish cloth has a colorful design that will keep your spirits up, despite the fact that you’re cleaning. It also has a nice texture on the back that is rougher than the other. Soft top, scrubby back; very useful indeed. A minor complaint: while I realize that this is the traditional size of a Swedish dishcloth, I'd absolutely love one that was a little larger, perhaps the size of a paper towel. Maybe in a future box, Smartass & Sass can introduce an “American” style dish cloth, perfect for larger messes (and even more space for snarky designs); I can hope!
Green Goddess Collectable Marker - Retail Value $4.95

This year, Smartass & Sass is including a different colored fine-point Sharpie, with appropriately funny phrases, in each month’s box. This is the fourth in the set and the phrase and color are perfectly “Sass-tainable!” If you miss out on a month and want to complete your set, the Smartass online shop sells them (while supplies last).
Not Dead Yet - Unisex T-Shirt - Retail Value $24.95
I love April's shirt. It’s a heather sage green shade that will look nice on most skin tones. Of course, it’s sassy and it fits the “Sass-tainable” theme! We’re still here and still sassy…”Not Dead Yet!”
Though I’m not a T-shirt person, my bestie is, so this shirt goes to her. She now has such a large collection of Smartass & Sass shirts that she is able to wear them every day of the month. And she actually does; in fact, she’s become known for them!
Thank you Jenni, for posing for this photo! According to Jenni, the shirts are true to size, long enough to wear with yoga pants and ridiculously soft! She tells me that every morning she flips through them in her closet and chooses which to wear, based on her sass level that day!
The Verdict
April’s box was a month late due to the dryer balls being held up in customs, but it was totally worth the wait! I’m blown away; everything fits the theme, is creative and very useful! In fact, I’m struggling to choose a favorite item. The dryer balls smell lovely and work well and the silicone loofah and soap feel and smell amazing. I suppose, if I have to pick, I’d say that the leftover containers are my favorite items. I will get a ton of use out of them and they’re hilarious.
There are several items I’ll be ordering as gifts from the Smartass & Sass online shop. It contains items found, and not found, in the box. They also have a monthly "Secret Shop" for subscribers who automatically receive 20% off their order.
