First Impressions

While we are closing in on the start of summer, I was pleasantly surprised to receive my Summer 2023 Walmart Beauty Box ahead of schedule! This isn't typical, so I am happy for the welcomed change. While it is officially still spring here in Northern Minnesota, our temps are more similar to that of mid-August, and I am 100% okay with that! What I am hoping for are sunny, shimmery, hydrating items. Will this month deliver? Read below to find out.

This quarter we received a pamphlet detailing the self-care collection offered for summer. With over 16 different options listed, you are guaranteed to receive five great finds. Being a mix of skin care, hair care, and make-up, the choices were rounded out quite well, but just what size items did they send?

Covergirl Clean Fresh Yummy Gloss (Full Size) - Retail Value $7.98

Yippee for a full-sized gloss! This hydrating, deliciously flavored peach gloss is ultra shiny and gives lips a full look. While I love a pigmented lip stick, you really can't go wrong in the hot summer month's with a quick swipe of gloss, and this lightly shaded version is perfect. Large in size and easy to apply, I like the wand and can't get enough of the peach flavor! I would definitely purchase this on my own, and am impressed to receive this full size item that costs more than the entire summer box. And that is only one of our five items! (See below for a photo of me wearing this month's items).

Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Mini Bronzer - Estimated Value $6.99

Bronzer can really alter a look, for good or for bad, depending on the formula and application. Physicians Formula is a brand I am quite familiar with and this bronzer is actually one I have purchased in the past. I appreciate the fact that this is a lighter formula with a subtle shimmer, and it can be built upon, rather than super deep from the get-go. A light dusting on the upper cheek bones, and you are ready to head out the door! While this wasn't actually a full-sized product, it is a mini, which is great for my makeup bag and travel. A perfect inclusion for a summer box, and one that I have already put to use!

Sally Hansen Nail Salon Pro Brush Kit (Full Size)- Retail Value $10.30

Though Pinterest shows off beautiful summer nails featuring glitter, floral designs, and ombre colors, my summer nails encompass dirt. My boys and I sell pumpkins in the fall, and set up a produce trailer at the end of our driveway. That means, we are in the garden daily and my nails really show it. Honestly, I don't paint my nails this time of year because it's a waste, but you can bet I will save this kit for fall when harvest is over! This brush kit contains a glitter + gradient brush, fan brush, and clean-up brush. These tiny brushes are easy to handle and the smallest one actually worked well to apply polish to my teeny tiny pinky toenail! What another great full size inclusion this season!

No7 Restore & Renew Face and Neck Serum (Full Size) - Retail Value $19.29

Another full sized product?! Walmart is knocking it out of the park with this one! I love serums and this No7 Restore & Renew Face and Neck Multi-Action Serum is exactly what I needed for the start of summer. Hydrating, and suitable for sensitive skin, this lightly scented serum goes on smoothly and doesn't leave skin feeling or looking greasy. With decent reviews on the Walmart website, I myself noticed firmer and more supple skin in only a few days of use. At the $19.29 sale price, I was thrilled to receive this in my seasonal box, and love the wonders it has done for my neck skin that sometimes gets forgotten about. Leaving my skin nourished, this was a fantastic inclusion, and one that I have been using daily.

Maybelline The Falsies Surreal Extensions Mascara- Estimated Value $5

I love mascara and am always in the market for a new brand that is cheaper than my ultimate go-to. While I have tried a variety of Maybelline versions in my day, the "Falsies Surreal Extensions" version was new to me, and I was happy to give it a try. With a very "juicy" formula, I loved the big bristled brush and enjoyed the volume it gave my lashes. Without clumping, I was able to achieve close to my usual results at a fraction of the cost. This mascara is not waterproof, so in the shower it came off easily, yet held on throughout the day. While not full size, this was a great size to throw in my makeup case and has lasted me over a week now!

Paired with my garage sale kimono, I utilized the No7 serum, on my face and neck, followed by the Physicians Formula bronzer, Maybelline mascara, and Covergirl lipgloss.

Verdict

With an extra early summer delivery, I have to say, I was shocked to receive the Walmart's Summer Beauty Box on my doorstep so quickly, and filled with such amazing products. The calculated value of this $6.98 box was $49.56, which is over 7 times the cost of the box!!! While the spring box just didn't do it for me, this summer version was perfect. Overall, I will use every product and was so happy to receive multiple full size versions. Hopefully we will be as impressed next quarter!

Hello! I ordered this as a Previous Season ICYMI box and it was really bad!!!! I got 4 items only 1 of which was on the pamphlet – the Dickinsons. The other 3 items are: Marc Anthony Conditioner, Neutrogena Cleanser (both from the spring box) and Corduroy Scrunchies in beige and brown!!! Who wears corduroy scrunchies in the Summer!
Very disappointed! Be careful when ordering previous boxes.

I bought this box based on this review and a few others. I just got my box and am a bit disappointed..The only similar items are the Covergirl lip gloss (which is gross smelling) and the nails, but the ones I got are in a unflattering color. I got the most ridiculous shower cap I will never use. There is a dark spot fix by a brand I never used, Bolden, so that will be fun to try and a travel size of Hask (a brand I love) 5 in 1 leave in. I was late to this subscription, so I’m guessing they ran out of what I really wanted which was the serum and the Bronzer, but still a deal for the price.

Hi, I loved your review!
I was looking for these after subscribing for the beauty box. I didn’t know they had this. It’s a super fun way to attract more people.
I hope mine doesn’t take long to get here bc I’m really excited to see what comes on my beauty summer box.

Xoxo

I got the same things the reviewer got which is unusual. Love the full size serum! Not sure about the nail brushes. I will try the mascara and lip gloss. Bronzer may be too dark for me. I might have liked the scünci. I know I would have liked the micellar water and the Hask spray. Still, an overall good box.

I received the No 7 serum, the nail brushes, a set of glue-on nails, the mascara and a simply AWFUL bright red NYX MATTE lip product. Thank heavens for the serum. I really wanted that and the peach lip gloss, which I unfortunately did not receive. Disappointed.

Mine was the same as yours, including the cherry creme lip gloss. The glue-on nails were an unfortunate zigzag pattern. The serum is great, though.
I’m thinking of using the nail brushes for eye shadow! Any comments on that?

My box was totally different. It says V1 on the box & contained a pink glitter sleep bonnet that says size XL, but might fit a 7yr old. Also, bonnets are supposed to be silky/satiny on the inside to prevent frizz & this one is as rough as can be. The glittery outside is actually pretty smooth though so you can just turned it inside out (if you have an abnormally small head or give it to a kid). I also received a full size Bolden dark spot fix serum, a Covergirl Yummy gloss in “Let’s Get Fizzical”, a clear pink, a Hask 5-in-1 leave in spray, & a set of Salon Perfect mani to go reusable nails in a dark mauve purple shade (no name 🤷‍♀️).

That’s the same box I got. All I wanted was the serum and instead I got a box of crap I won’t use.

Same….

I just subscribed. I want the lip gloss and the bronzer, worth the $7. I wouldn’t mind the No 7 serum.

That’s what I wanted but got the box of “junk” as noted above.

I’m happy I got the No7 Serum and I like the Butter Bronzer. I’ve never used bronzer so this is test size for me.
But… I am almost 60 so I do not need a pimple patch!!! Third time I’ve gotten pimple products.
I’m also not very fond of flavored sticky lip glosses or vampy long fake nails.
We got short nails a while back and I really liked them. Actually, I’ve gotten a lot of fake nails in my boxes.
There were just so many more age appropriate items in the brochure. Anything else than those 3 products would have been better as they really are more for a younger customer.
That said, the bronzer and serum alone were worth the cost of the box. My friends at work are loving all my hand offs.
Does anyone understand the V numbers? Is that how boxes are curated? I got V7. Anyone else get the same? Are you my around my age? Do you get pimples??? Ha ha!
Hope all y’all are gearing up for a wonderful summer.

The “V” stands for “version.” There isn’t a way to know what is in each version other than to compare to others, if you know other people who get the box. So all V7 will get the same things. I don’t remember what my V was, but it doesn’t match any of the ones listed here so far.

When they first started these boxes many years ago, you set up a profile that included your age. The younger folks got the “trendy” or trendsetter box – can’t remember which they called it, and more mature folks got the “classic” box, so the items sent were a bit more age appropriate, so bright lipsticks and pimple patches (not that those were a thing years ago) for the younger crowd and more mature skin care products for the older crowd. Some of us set up two profiles so we could get one of each box. Somewhere along the line they abandoned that model but didn’t bother to tell anyone. I still get two boxes, but unfortunately, most times I get 2 of the same version. Last quarter I actually got 2 different boxes, and they were both good, so I was happy. But if I get identical boxes again this time, I might as well cancel one of them.
Oh, and I’m 51, and yes, I still get pimples. Sometimes massive cystic ones. They aren’t limited to young folks.

Received my summer box V2 on Friday, similar to the one reviewed. Full size No. 7 Lift and Luminate serum ($20), Sally Hansen nail brush set ($8), Falsies Surreal mascara (half of full size, $5), NYX Smooth Whip matte lip creme in cherry ($8), and Mani-To-Go Press-On Nail Set in a dusty pink ($5). Definitely a step up from the last few years. The box includes a brochure that lists 16 possible items, plus a promise of a BeautySpaceNK anniversary box in the fall.

Well this did it!! I subscribed after this review. Hope I receive a similar summer box. Thank you!!

The Falsies mascara was the worst I’ve ever used. It’s difficult removing. I use prestige makeup remover!
The lipsticks are always red and completely unusable for me.
I realize it’s an inexpensive box but this quarter’s box was unusable. I’m physically challenged and have no use for any fingernail products. I got press on nails and 3 nail polishing brushes.
The no.7 is the best item! I do like their products.
I got a different lip product than shown and I did not receive the bronze butter.
I’ve continued getting it despite so many things being passed on. I believe this might be the last.
