Allure Beauty Box is a $25 monthly beauty subscription from Allure Magazine. Each month they send out a mix of deluxe and full-size samples from mostly high-end brands. (It was named one of the best beauty subscription boxes by MSA readers in the 2023 Subscription Box Awards.)

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impression

The box arrives beautifully packaged in the classic Allure white and red box. There was also a helpful mini-magazine with more info on the products and a note from Allure's deputy beauty director Elizabeth Siegel.

New subscribers in the month of June received either a sunscreen or serum from Necessaire.

What's Inside the July 2023 Allure Beauty Box

Ole Henriksen Banana Bright+ Eye Crème, 0.5 oz - Retail Value $42

This is a classic product from Ole Henriksen-  if you struggle with dark circles under your eyes it’s definitely worth giving a try! This eye cream has a touch of a tint to it, and it’s made with a vitamin C complex, real gold, and antioxidants. It’s been recently reformulated (denoted by the + in Bright+) and is now fragrance-free. I don’t struggle with super bad dark circles, but I do see a difference when I use this product, and I’m excited for others to have the chance to use it for the first time through their Allure subscription- this eye cream alone costs more than the entire subscription box!

Sachajuan Hair After The Sun, 3.4 oz - Retail Value $37

This is a hair treatment you apply after sun exposure (like spending all day at the beach), and you can use it as a leave-in treatment or wash it out. The top layer of my hair always feels a little crusty when I spend too much time in the sun, so this treatment sounds perfect. It’s made with hydrating glycerin, castor oil, pantheon, and red algae extract to hydrate and nourish your strands.

Pound Cake Cosmetics Red Velvet Cake Batter Lipstick - Retail Value $24

This is a high-intensity matte red lipstick if I have ever seen one- and if you’re sensitive to scents/flavors in your lip products, you’re probably not going to like this one as it is flavored with the brand’s cake batter with vanilla icing scent and it is strong. This is a long-lasting matte lipstick formula and the red velvet shade has a bit of blue undertones to it, making it a shade that should work well for anyone who likes a bold red lip.

Here it is swatched.

Byoma Creamy Jelly Cleanser, 30 mL - Estimated Value $2.06 (buy the 175 mL version for $11.99)

Byoma is a relatively new brand on the skincare scene, and this jelly cleanser was a fun introduction. It has a nice texture that is lightweight and easy to spread across my skin, and when water is added a frothy lather starts to form. This is formulated with ceramides and licorice root so my sensitive skin really enjoyed it, and it didn’t leave my skin feeling dry or tight.

Neogen Probiotics Youth Repair Cream, 15 g - Estimated Value $14.40 (buy the 50g version for $48)

I am a big fan of Neogen, and I am always happy when I see the brand in subscription boxes that aren’t focused exclusively on K-beauty- more people deserve to discover them! This moisturizer has a really nice texture. It’s hydrating without being too heavy, and it’s made with 11 different peptides, probiotics, Hyaluronic acid, and ceramide. My skin soaked it up when I applied it after cleansing and using the Acaderma serum, and it provided enough moisture to last me all night.

Acaderma The Oasis Barrier Booster Serum, 8 mL - Retail Value $20

This serum is really nice (and one would hope so, for the price). It features an ingredient that is 20% nice effective than resveratrol and boasts higher antioxidant levels than green tea, and that’s paired with cactus and Centella asiatica. My sensitive skin really enjoys this, and I like that it’s lightweight and layers nicely under heavier moisturizers.

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $25 (save more with a longer subscription- 3 months prepaid is $60 and an annual subscription is $228)

Value Breakdown:

  • Ole Henriksen: $42 → $7.53
  • Sachajuan: $37 → $6.63
  • Pound Cake: $24 → $4.30
  • Byoma: $2.06 → $0.37
  • Neogen: $14.40 → $2.58
  • Acaderma: $20 → $3.58

Key Takeaways

The July Allure Beauty Box was another great box for me. With the full-size Ole Henriksen and Sachajuan hair treatment, this box was destined for happy subscribers. While I enjoyed trying out the Pound Cake lipstick, I just don't think it's something I am going to be reaching for often given the bold color and equally bold scent. The remaining products from Byoma, Neogen, and Acaderma are all going to be used up easily. Value-wise, Allure promises a monthly value of at least $100, and everything in the box added up to $139.46.

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. If you sign up in August, you should receive the August box.

Is the forum gone? I can’t find it.

It was pretty well dead so I don’t think it’s much of a loss.

So true, Melissa. I typically don’t read any of the “reviews” anymore because the vast majority sound like ads. I come here to see the comments and what other people are saying, but no one’s saying much of anything nowadays.

Melissa

Pretty much like the rest of this site (dead, I mean). I checked comments on Friday, and came in today (Monday), and there are no new comments on any posts.

mandi

Ya they closed it. They announced it in the forum last month and closed it a couple of weeks ago.

I checked via a link I had in an old email from MSA and yep, dead link.
RIP forum and swaps…… ( I miss you swap site)!

I can’t find it either

I’m kind of annoyed that the Neogen was an either/or item. I get my boxes through Amazon and I got a Naturopathica cream instead.

I received the same very tiny Naturopathica cream as well. It’s only 0.17 oz. I sub directly from Allure so it wasn’t just Amazon subscribers who received it.

Never understand why such bright lipstick is given. I have never worn red let alone orange red and not everyone can. Neutral would get used by so many more people to give a much better review. I also prefer skin care items. That’s why I get this box. Moisturizer, toner, spf, makeup remover etc. I get much more use of that vs makeup which I have so much of. Paying over 300$ a year for unknowns has come to an end again. Time to simply buy what I need like waterproof remover, toner etc. Still a great box to invest in.

Personally, I don’t like neutrals at all. I color my lips to add color.

And Allure has always been a mix of skin care, makeup, and occasionally treats like nail polish and fragrance. There are plenty of boxes that focus strictly on skin care or strictly on makeup.

Jessica! What a lovely review of our Cake Batter 🙂 This article popped up in our Google Alerts. Love the detailed description as well! A fun note is that we’re also sold at all Credo Beauty locations (the largest clean beauty retailer in the U.S.) and meet their Clean Beauty standards. Our custom flavoring in our product is non-GMO, vegan, gluten-free, and paraben-free too! Lastly, we make highly pigmented reds that are tailored to specific skin AND lip tones so everyone (regardless of how light or deep their skin is) will be able to find their perfect shade of red! Thank you again for the shout-out!

Love Jessica, but June review in August?

Kbutt

This is actually the July box. It would have probably been shipped the first week of July and received in mid-July, so having the review posted on August 02 seems appropriate.

Kristin

That is because they changed the title to July.

Melissa

Thank you for a great review, Jessica! I haven’t tried the products yet as I am on product overload, but your descriptions make me want to try all of them when I get home tonight. Lol! To be honest, the item I have been most excited about is the lipstick. I meant to try it right away, but I received an equally bright lipstick in a different box that same week, so used it first.

Actually I guess I have no use for the Sachajuan product, although I do like that brand. I wish we still had a swap site for products that we can’t use. 🙁 If anyone knows of any sites anywhere, please let us know!

If you use fb, the page Allure Beauty Box Subscribers has some swaps. It’s mostly people who are selling products, but a few have trades, and you can always offer your own trades. Products are from various sources, not just from Allure boxes. I’ve never tried either, but I see many happy customers.
