First Impressions
This month's box is "The Summer Mood Box," and I am hoping for some products to help me wind down after a long day in the hot summer sun.
Kinder Beauty has embraced a "choose your own adventure" approach to their subscription; they offer 3 base or "foundation" products, and you can choose one product from each of two categories. Kinder was kind enough to send us each product in both categories so you can get a better look at this month's choices.
The Choices
The first category included a choice of two products. Choose between Three Ships Cherry Lip Exfoliator ($13 value), Flower Mill Cacao Mask ($24 value), or Franklin & Whitman Sea Salt Hair Mist ($19.95 value)
In the second choice category, you get to choose one of three products including Jane Iredale Beyond Lash® Volumizing Mascara ($28) or Dirty Lamb Ultra Night Serum ($56 value).
My Choices
Franklin & Whitman Sea Salt Hair Mist - Retail Value - $19.95
I reviewed this hair product in September last year, but it was definitely one of my favorite subscription box finds. I found myself reaching for this not only for me but for my son as well. Here is my impression then: I don't know how my hairstylist did it, but she managed to cut my hair in a way that set free this wild, curly texture that was being weighed down with longer layers. I've been relying on texturizing products to keep frizz and unruly waves from becoming out of control, and this fit right in with my new hair routine. I first condition my hair then use shampoo, and douse it with this spray while it is still wet. It creates a light hold and keeps my curls clean and defined. This also looks great in my son's thick, beach-wavy mane, and I love smelling the citrus/herby notes in his hair when I pick him up.
Jane Iredale Beyond Lash® Volumizing Mascara - Retail Value - $28.00
Jane Iredale made an appearance in July's box, and I am happy to see their products once again. One thing about me is that I can never have big enough lashes. I love to load up my eyelashes (when I have the time and patience) with so much black mascara that they look like they could crawl away. This mascara was great because it created a voluminous lash within a few coats, and it didn't clump up upon application. It wore beautifully throughout the day, and it even held the curl in my lashes for the majority of the day.
Foundation Products
Dr. Botanicals La Rose Francaise Facial Cleansing Bar - Retail Value - $14.90
I love the feel of this facial bar. My sense of smell is hyper-sensitive nowadays, so the rose fragrance was too much for me to use near my face, but this felt and smelt fantastic everywhere else. Sweet almond oil and avocado oil nourish and hydrate the skin, and after using this soap, my entire bathroom smells like a flower shop.
Cardea AuSet Calm Mood Mist - Retail Value - $33.00
I call this the "spa in a bottle". Lavender, witch hazel, and bergamot calm the senses and help to send you into total relaxation mode. This is awesome to spray while in a relaxing bath, especially before bed. The scent isn't too potent, and it doesn't linger for too long, which my husband appreciates since he is sensitive to smell.
100% Pure Collagen Boost Sheet Mask - Retail Value - $7.00
Ginseng, retinol, and vitamin C help to vitalize skin, improve texture, and boost collagen for a younger-looking appearance. I know a lot of people (including myself) who are sensitive to retinol, but this mask didn't cause any negative side effects. Every time I use 100% Pure products, I like the brand more. This mask made my skin feel soft and my complexion appears brighter.
The Verdict
This month's Kinder Beauty Box was full of a lot of winners. I am especially happy to have a new bottle of the Franklin and Whitman hair mist and Jane Iredale's mascara was an awesome find I would consider repurchasing. I will happily use up all of the products sent out this month, per usual.
The element of surprise and experimentation that subscription boxes offer is still there with the three base products everyone receives, but choosing two things has made this subscription even dearer to me. This month’s box variation, including the two products I selected, has a retail value of $102.85, which is an excellent value for its cost of $27.
