Nomadik is a lifestyle subscription box for outdoor lovers. Every month, they send 3-5 items for outdoor adventures including gear, snacks, and multi-use items for $34.99 + shipping. They promise a $60 average retail value.

This box was sent to us at no cost to review. (Check out our review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

Nomadik's tried and true monthly box is always a welcome sight. I like that you can immediately tell this is an outdoor box.

Inside The Nomadik "Stay Alert" Box

BUFF CoolNet UV Neckwear - Retail Price $24

The BUFF CoolNet UV Multifunctional Neckwear is "engineered with REPREVE performance microfiber, HeiQ cooling technology, and Polygiene odor control." It features UPF 50 sun protection and is 95% recycled. The website says it can be worn 12 different ways, but shows the only six I can think of on its packaging. This color is "camo white." I received this item just after the week I spent spreading mulch all over my property and wishing I had something to keep the sun of my head and sweat out of my eyes. So it goes.

Celestron UpClose G2 Monocular - Retail Price $19.95

I've always wanted a monocular and was pumped to receive it in this month's box. The website says the multi-coated optics increase light transmission resulting in brighter and sharper images with high contrast levels. Stylish rubber covered aluminum body protects from rough handling and provides non-slip comfort. It's water resistant and comes with a soft carrying case and strap. I like how small and light it is, in case you want to take it backpacking.

Rite in the Rain On-The-Go Notebook - Estimated Price $2.33

These tiny notebooks measure 3.375 by 2 inches, which makes them just smaller than a standard business card. Despite its small size is has 24 blank, perforated sheets. As the name Rite in the Rain suggests, the notebook repeals water. So, with the correct writing utensil, you could take notes in a storm or the pool. I like the functionally and look, but I personally found them to be a little too small.

Note: These are sold in packs of 6 for $14. That comes to about $2.33.

GoMacro MacroBar Mini - Estimated Price $1.42

This month's snack is a vegan Oatmeal Chocolate Chip MacroBar Mini. They combined gluten-free oats, a dash of vanilla, and a handful of organic chocolate chips. The website makes mention that the bars are nut-free, but also made in a factory that is not. It was tasty, but not very filling.

Note: These bars are sold $35 for 24 units. That comes to $1.42 per bar.

Tecnu Original Skin Cleanser - Estimated Price $1.50

Tecnu Original Outdoor Skin cleanser is a poison ivy soap designed to wash away the rash-causing oil (urushiol) from your skin (and other items) after exposure to poison ivy, poison oak, & poison sumac plants. If you know, or think you have been, exposed to urushiol, apply this stuff to dry skin, rub vigorously for two minutes, then rinse with water. Although it is a soap, it can also be used without water. Obviously, I didn't have a chance to use this, but it's a perfect sample to include in an outdoor box.

Note: A 12 oz. bottle of this stuff costs $15. That comes to $1.50 per ounce, which accounts for these two packs together.

The Verdict

We're back. After a 2-1/2 year hiatus, I'm excited to be reviewing Nomadik again. It feels like I never left. They're using the same box, formula, and thoughtful items I remember. No shade. I thought this was a great effort. Although I got the CoolNet a week too late, I'm happy to have it for the next time I'm working outside. I'm was super happy to get a monocular and I immediately put it in my backpack. The notebook was small for me, but I appreciate the idea. The nutrition bar and Poison Ivy wipes were a nice cherry on a tasty sundae. All things I'm excited to use ... except the soap. I'm not excited to have to use that.

To Wrap Up

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Your first box will be your choice. More from Nomadik:

Just sign up, fill out your profile, and pick your first theme. Future boxes are curated based on: your profile, seasonality and product surveys. Order by the 15th, your monthly box ships by the 24th of this month. Otherwise it'll ship by the 24th of next month. Future shipments (after the first shipment) will ship by the 24th. When you sign up you'll be charged, your subscription will automatically renew on the 4th of your renewal month. You'll be charged 1 time per month and you'll get 1 box per month.

Value Breakdown: At $40 ($34.99 + $4.99 shipping to PA) for this box, each of the 5 items has an average cost of $8. This box retails for around $50. That is below the promised $60+ value and not much more than the cost of the subscription. That is a disheartening lack of value. They could have included the whole pack of notebooks to pump up the value.
