Here's What's Inside

Activity Guide & Stickers

Each monthly box from StoryCaptain comes with an informational card that also serves as an activity guide as well as stickers. This month's theme was Getting Around Town and the activity guide provided ideas for 3 fun games focused on driving a DIY car, racing, and playing "Red Light, Green Light". The sticker sheet came with 18 individual stickers including tires, racing numbers, driving goggles, and an adorable racing bear.

Red Car, Green Car by Roger Priddy — Retail Value $9.99

I really enjoyed the simple text and vibrant images this book offered. I thought that the entire book was very age-appropriate for my 15-month-old daughter and the pull-down tabs to change the car's color were quite fun. Red Car, Green Car did a great job teaching Maddie about colors and it was short enough to keep her interest the whole way through. This will definitely be one of her new favorite books for a while.

Car, Car, Truck, Jeep by by Katrina Charman (Author), Nick Sharratt (Illustrator) — Retail Value $7.99

This was the first book I received from StoryCaptain that threw a spin on a classic nursery rhyme, and we loved it! Similar to the first book, this one also featured incredibly bright pictures paired with simple text. It was a bit long compared to other books my daughter has as it required additional pages to showcase the different methods of transportation. Definitely another hit in this month's box, though I think my daughter's attention span isn't quite long enough to read every day.

Wherever You Go by Pat Zietlow Miller (Author), Eliza Wheeler (Illustrator) — Retail Value $7.99

I appreciate the different style of art that this book presented - it was quite magical and highly detailed. The text is a bit of a better fit for older toddlers, but this book is going to be displayed in our bookcase nonetheless due to how beautiful the pages are. Wherever You Go did a wonderful job of encouraging exploration and describing all the places people can adventure to.

Value Breakdown: This subscription costs $29.90 including shipping. The 3 books that we were sent in the 0-3 age range for September added up to $25.97 and the additional cost for stickers probably cost around $1-2. If you take into consideration the standard price of shipping on Amazon or other suppliers, then the total retail value is slightly higher than what you pay each month. And, if you make a longer commitment (6 or 12 months), then you'll end up saving a few extra dollars compared to purchasing the books online or in-store.

Key Takeaways

This month's box supplied us with gems! We loved all of the artwork in each of the books and they all taught wonderful lessons. While the first book was the most age-appropriate, the other two make wonderful additions to my daughter's library and will be thoroughly enjoyed soon enough.
