Nomadik is a lifestyle subscription box for outdoor lovers. Every month, they send 3-5 items for outdoor adventures including gear, snacks, and multi-use items for $34.99 + shipping. They promise a $60 average retail value.  First-time subscribers will choose their first box. Future gear and kit themes are based on a variety of factors, such as: seasonality, available inventory from brand partners, interests, etc. But rest assured, the value, quality, and quantity of the items in all variations of the kits are comparable each month. You can skip a month or even cancel or reactivate your account easily.

This box was sent to us at no cost to review. (Check out our review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

Nomadik's tried and true monthly box is always a welcome sight. I like that you can immediately tell this is an outdoor box. Every box comes with a small tri-fold with information about the items and some other info or deals. There is also always a neat Nomadik Sticker.

Inside The Nomadik "Protection from the Elements" Box

Phoozy Apollo II + Thermal Phone Capsule - Retail Price $39.99

Phoozy's patented Chromium Thermal Barrier reflects more than 90% of the heat of the sun away from your device while insulating from cold temperatures to extend battery life up to 4X. The Apollo II also features 8 feet of drop protection, an antimicrobial lining, and a split-ring protector. Oh, and if you drop it in water, it floats. It closes tight with Velcro and is water-resistant. The large sizes fits most phones. My XR had more than enough room. This would be great at the beach, in a kayak, or just in a tent overnight. I can't tell you how many times I've killed my battery leaving it out in my tent. It will be nice to have this to protect my phone overnight.

My Medic Emergency Poncho - Retail Price $5.95

We've all seen the shiny emergency blankets, but I think this is the first time I've seen an emergency poncho. Compact and packable folding poncho from My Medic has a Mylar lining that reflects 90% of body heat to help prevent hypothermia in rough conditions. It's hooded to retain heat and protect against elements, and has an arm hole design to allow use of hands. This is going straight into my car in hopes that I never have to use it.

UCO Gear Waterproof Matches - Estimated Price $4.99

Don't get cold, wet, and out of luck. Carry these waterproof matches from UCO Gear. Ideal for adventures in adverse conditions, barbecuing on the boat, or an unexpected emergency, these matches have a durable waterproof coating that provides the security of light and warmth in compromising situations. This packet contains 4 boxes of 40 matches each (160 total matches), which each burn up to 15 seconds. Waterproof safety matches light even after being soaked in water. The boxes and stickers are water-resistant too. Ideal for camping, hiking, boating, survival kits, and more.

Zealios Sun Barrier SPF 45 Sunscreen - Estimated Price $2.05

Protection from the sun doesn't stop just because summer is over. Don't underestimate the amount of sun your face gets reflected on it from the snow on the ground. Zealios sun barrier can protect your skin from the rays in any season. This filters 98% of the harmful UVA & UVB rays that cause skin damage, dries completely clear with no chalky or greasy residue, is easy on sensitive skin, won't clog pores, and feels like a light lotion. If you do wear it in the summer, it has the FDA's highest water resistance rating (80 minutes).

A 3 oz. bottle of this runs $18. This 10mL sample is about $2.05.

DripDrop Electrolyte Drink Mix - Estimated Price $2.25

Another box, another drink mix. This one from DripDrop is doctor-developed and provides superior rehydration that works faster and more effectively than water alone, according to their website. Works "like an IV" to rehydrate quickly and tastes good doing it.

A 32-pack of this stuff costs $36. So I estimate this 2-pack at $2.25

The Verdict

This was a great, thoughtful installment of Nomadik. They thought of the different elements and different things that need protecting. The three main items have gone directly into my camping gear. The matches and poncho are great, but ironically, I hope I don't have use them. The phone protector is interesting and something I never knew I wanted. But I will throw this in with my gear, especially for when I'm heading out into the cold. The sunscreen is nice, but I'm not too excited about a sample size. And the drink powder is OK. Overall, I was very happy with this effort from Nomadik and I'm excited for the next one.

Value Breakdown: At $40 ($34.99 + $4.99 shipping to PA) for this box, each of the 5 items has an average cost of $8. This box retails for around $56. That is below the promised $60+ value, but not by much. I feel it's forgivable for the value and the thoughtful items.

Well written review (as usual) for what seams to be an interesting subscription. The ratings and reviews of this company’s customer service are awful. Worth a warning to potential MSA subscribers.
