Universal Yums is a snack subscription box that sends out snacks and candies from a different country each month. The contents of the boxes change each month as they highlight the best snacks from each featured country, but you can always expect a mix of flavors: salty, sweet, spicy, fruity, and more. Only authentic snacks from the featured country are included in this box. Choose from the Yum Box for $17.00 per month, the Yum Yum Box for $29.00 per month, or the Super Yum Box for $45.00 per month. (You also have the option to save by purchasing a 3,6, or 12-month plan.)

First Impressions
The snow is flying and the days are getting shorter! With winter in full swing, holiday excitement is in the air, and the carb cravings are real! Making its way to our doorstep just in time for Christmas, my family and I were beyond excited to see our red and white holiday Universal Yums box. Because this month features treats from around the world, it is a special month and really is extra yummy. Not only were we excited for the tasty treats, but it's educational too! Read below to find out what we discovered this month.
What's Inside the Box

In every month but December, Universal Yums focuses on sending snacks from one particular country. Once December rolls around, they send out an "Around the World" box that includes snacks from all around the world instead. Still featuring the info-filled pamphlet, we don't miss out on any trivia, or the Yum Scoreboard and scavenger hunt. Heading to 11 different countries through snacks and holiday traditions - fun and educational!
Salted Egg Yolk Popcorn - Buy a pack of 2 for $5.40

Funny story, I received a package of this "Salted Egg Yolk Popcorn" in last year's "Everywhere" box and just didn't care for it. After a handful of kernels, I packaged it up in a new bag and brought it to school to share with a few of my students. One of my kiddos fell in love with this Taiwanese, egg-flavored popcorn and has literally been begging me for more ever since. Today his dreams came true, as we received another package of this treat. Salty and fluffy in texture, it really does have an egg flavor, and while it's not to my liking, my student absolutely loves it!
Raspberry Macaron Chocolate Truffles - Buy a pack of 2 for $4.20

I always feel so fancy eating truffles because they just look so darn elegant. While we have tried multiple flavors throughout the years through Universal Yums, this is the first time we've ever received raspberry macaron flavored ones, and I think these are the best yet! With a dark chocolate coating and cocoa powder dusting - the inside is packed with crunchy raspberry bits and are delectable. What a fancy (and delicious) treat! Thank you, France!
Mocktail Bonbons Estimated cost $5.10 for a pack of 3

Bonbons are always a hit in our house, and this United Kingdom "mocktail" version is really fun. Featuring bright colors and a host of fun flavors, we couldn't decide which ones were our favorite, so we just ate them all. Juicy, chewy, and a little tart, these are a really fun treat, and one that comes just in time to celebrate the upcoming New Year!
Dulce de Leche Filled Plum Cake

Like I've mentioned before, prepackaged cake treats are always touch and go because they tend to be quite dry and lacking flavor. However, this version is moist, full of caramel, and literally melts in your mouth. All the way from Argentina, this cake is honestly something I'd like to serve with our Christmas dinner, because it is just that good!
White Truffle Potato Chips - Buy a pack of 2 for $4.40

Chips are always a hit in our house, and this truffle version was no exception. Though I don't typically care for mushrooms, I can't say I hated the flavor of this chip. Crunchy in texture, with a light saltiness, followed by a savory, earthy flavor, these were quite tasty. The kids naturally devoured these as they love chips and mushrooms, so I'd say this one is definitely a win.
Crab Candy

I have to say, after seeing this wrapper, I was a little nervous to try this "Crab Candy." Only titled that because of the hard pink shell, these pretty Ukrainian sweets look like the vintage candies my grandma used to have. Featuring a chocolate peanut powder filling, the flavors mix together quite nicely, and it tastes mature, yet in a fun way. The kids thought these were okay, but I really enjoyed them!
Milk Chocolate with Strawberry Popping Candy - Buy a single pack for $6.30
When these guys arrive in the box, I can't help but sing! Coming from Italy, these truffles are always our favorite. With a creamy milk chocolate outside, and strawberry popping inside, these are just so darn unique and good! Prettily wrapped and fun to eat, the only problem I have with this yum is that they only sent four!
Dark Chocolate Gingerbread Bites - Buy a single pack for $4.10

I don't love gingerbread, and combined with jelly and persipan, it really doesn't do anything for me. With a dark chocolate, jelly, ginger flavor, all of these components are just too much in one and I just don't care for it. Maybe if my palate was more mature I could get into these like my husband, but ekkk! I just can't.
Cinnamon Sugar Churros - Buy a pack of 2 for $4.80

Ahh something more my style! Fun in shape, texture, and flavor, these South Korean cinnamon sugar churros have all of the flavor stops. Savory and sweet, these are the perfect snack for when you just aren't sure what you are in the mood for. Paired with a glass of milk, this would be a great snack for Santa!
Strawberry & Pomegranate Turkish Delight - Buy a pack of 2 for $6.00

Our family enjoys a Turkish delight every now and then, and I have to say, these strawberry and pomegranate ones are definitely our favorite flavors. Sweet and chewy in texture, they are quite elegant when plated. The kids agreed on the flavor front, and always appreciate the extra powdered sugar sprinkled on top!
Tom Yum Coconut Rolls - Buy a pack of 12 for $9.60

The last Yum we received was also one that was new to us. From Thailand, we were gifted a package of Tom Yum Coconut Rolls. These crunchy rolls have a savory component, but are topped off with a sweet coconut note. An interesting mix of flavors, these were actually pretty tasty!
The Verdict
Universal Yums is one of our very favorite subscriptions. Our family looks forward to receiving this box each and every month, and are always surprised by the contents. Featuring a host of sweet and savory snacks from different countries, this is a fun change of pace from our usual box, and was delish. Tasty and educational, this box is full of fun! We can't wait to see where we are headed in January. Any ideas?
