Here's What's Inside
Activity Guide & Stickers
Each monthly box from StoryCaptain comes with an informational card that also serves as an activity guide plus stickers. This month's theme was Bug Quest which focused on learning all about different types of bugs. The activity guide provided ideas for 2 crafts and 1 game. The crafts included making a bug house with a cardboard box, twigs, leaves, and pinecones as well as creating a spider's web with painter's tape and cotton balls. The game was a bug hunt which involved parents encouraging their little ones to find as many bugs as possible in their local park or backyard. The sticker sheet came with 19 individual stickers consisting of bug parts that could be used to build a glittery bug.
Never Touch a Spider by Rosie Greening (Illustrated by Stuart Lynch) — Retail Value $10.99
Maddie absolutely loves touch-and-feel books, so I was very happy to discover this gem in the January box. While the book is a bit too short, Maddie didn't seem to be bothered by its length and thoroughly enjoyed playing with each page's textures. Normally, her attention span isn't that long when it comes to reading books, but the textured silicone sensory spots along with the vibrant colors captivated her. I have a feeling that both my daughter and newborn son will get a lot of use out of this book.
You're My Little Cuddle Bug by Nicola Edwards (Illustrated by Natalie Marshall) — Retail Value $8.99
Funny enough, we already owned this book prior to receiving the January box, but it never hurts to have a few copies of a good read! This book happens to be one of my daughter's favorites thus far, so I was happy to have an additional copy to read before bed. I treasure that this book focuses on the bond between moms and their babies, and Maddie loves to poke her hands through the cut-open sections to see what lies ahead on the next page. I also appreciate the length and imagery of this book - you get a lot of bang for your buck with this one.
Some Bugs by Angela DiTerlizzi (Illustrated by Brendan Wenzel ) — Retail Value $8.99
This was quite a fun read as well. I loved the simplicity of the text paired with vivid imagery for little readers. Maddie is still new to learning about bugs so this book will provide a wonderful way to explain how different bugs interact with their environment and live their day-to-day lives.

Value Breakdown: This subscription costs $24.90 including shipping. The 3 books that we were sent in the 0-3 age range for January retail at $28.97 and the additional cost for stickers probably cost around $2. If you take into consideration the standard price of shipping on Amazon or other suppliers, then the total retail value is slightly higher than what you pay each month. Not to mention, you receive a carefully curated selection of books, and some fun activity prompts!
Key Takeaways
StoryCaptain's January box was a total hit! We loved every single book in this month's box, but Maddie's favorite was definitely the touch-and-feel book. All of the books work perfectly for my 2 under 2, and I was very happy with the bright imagery and simple text throughout each one.
