First Impressions
How cute is the crystal-covered tape that wraps this sturdy box? Such a lovely presentation!
The crystal was carefully packaged: nestled in packing paper and enclosed in bubble wrap. It’s not surprising then, that it arrived in perfect condition.
Enchanted Crystal includes two inserts in their monthly subscription box. The first uses several QR codes to link to various letters on their blog. One links to a letter to new subscribers, another to their Crystal Library, and one to the current month’s newsletter.
In the February blog post, Enchanted Crystal shares that they’ve returned home from the Tucson Gem Show (one of the largest gem and mineral shows in America). They’re busy cleaning and preparing the stones for shipment in future boxes, but they suggest you follow them on Instagram or TikTok for sneak peeks!
The second insert gives the details of February's star crystal: Mystic Merlinite (Indigo Gabbro). This insert is fabulous because it gives the history of the stone as well as the metaphysical properties. If you lose your insert or you’d like to read it online, the same information can be found in their Crystal Library.
The Crystals
Black Obsidian & Quartz Points (Bonus Crystals)
Each month, Enchanted Crystal includes a small collection of bonus crystals and stones. I look at these extras as an appetizer; a little taste to get you hungry for more! The bonus crystals I received in this box were two small pieces of black obsidian and two quartz points.
The two pieces of black obsidian I received are smooth, shiny and a lustrous black color. Unfortunately, Enchanted Crystal’s Library doesn’t have a listing for black obsidian (or obsidian in general) but a web search turned up plenty of interesting information.
According to Wikipedia, obsidian, “...is a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed when lava extruded from a volcano cools rapidly with minimal crystal growth.” It was first discovered in Ethiopia by a Roman explorer named Obsidius.
According to Crystal Vaults, “This shamanic stone can be brutal and direct, yet it carries the wonderful power of catharsis and deep soul healing. It reveals the reasons behind one’s imperfections and causes of dis-ease, and provides a clear picture of the changes needed to ameliorate them. It impels growth and resolution, and lends solid support and direction during the process. Obsidian provides essential grounding, connecting the base of the spine to the heart of the earth. It is highly protective, shielding one from negativity in the environment, from others, and from within the self.”
I’ve received quartz points in the past several boxes. I’m developing quite a collection, but I don't mind. They’re beautiful to look at and I think they’ll make pretty pendants.
According to the Crystal Library, “Metaphysically, clear quartz is highly regarded for its amplifying and purifying properties. It is believed to enhance energy, clarity of thought, and spiritual connection…. It is also believed clear quartz can cleanse other crystal varieties. By placing a clear quartz inside, below, or on top of another variety it's thought that the larger stone's vibrations will remove the inharmonious energies found in the resting stone.”
A great start. Now, on to the main event!
Mystic Merlinite (Indigo Gabbro)
I receive both the Variety and Monthly boxes from Enchanted Crystal so I (sometimes) receive duplicate crystals. Mystic Merlinite was included in January’s Variety Box. I’m super excited to have both pieces, though, because it is such a unique and gorgeous stone!
According to the Crystal Library, “Mystic merlinite, also known as indigo gabbro, is a striking black and purple stone that originates from Madagascar's vast geological terrains…. The indigo and purple hues in mystic merlinite primarily result from the oxidation of iron, along with several other transition metals within a gabbro stone formation.”
It’s so lovely; it almost looks like a type of marble. In fact, if I was redoing my kitchen, I’d rather have it on my countertops than the traditional granite or marble. It’s that beautiful. I especially love the contrast between the blue/purple streaks and the shimmery milky white backdrop that almost glows.
The Crystal Library adds, “Enthusiasts of crystal healing consider mystic merlinite to be a stone of duality, encompassing light and dark, and it's said to promote a deep understanding of the self and the environment. The stone is also associated with the enhancement of intuition, encouraging one to embrace the full spectrum of their existence, from shadow to light.”
The Verdict
If you didn’t subscribe to January’s Variety box, then February's box was a must have! Mystic merlinite is absolutely stunning. I’m so excited that I now own two pieces of this remarkable looking stone. The contrast of light and dark along with the opal-like milkiness of the lighter parts makes it almost glow from within. My sister often talks me into giving her my duplicates for her collection, but I’ll be keeping both pieces of mystic merlinite!
If you are interested in crystals, the monthly box is a great place to start your collection. As for the value, considering the fact that shipping is included in the $16 cost, I feel that the subscription price is a very good deal.
