First Impressions

Front of Bag for Ipsy Glam Bag March 2024

Each month, Ipsy subscribers get a makeup bag in addition to their items. This month’s theme is ‘Rewrite the Rules.’ As one who’s never been a fan of stringent rules, I appreciate the sentiment. The makeup bag’s design is giving me a touch of nostalgia. Strong 90s vibes. Tie-dye and chunky jewelry, anyone? I’m interested to see what variety of products this bag will bring.

KOYAL BEAUTY Gentle Gel Face Wash, 10 ml - Estimated Value $3.17

Front of Koyal Beauty Gentle Face Wash for Ipsy Glam Bag March 2024

This Koyal Beauty Gentle Gel Face Wash has become a fast favorite. What makes this cleanser stand out is its truly gentle yet effective approach towards clean, calm skin. I appreciate its clean ingredients and fragrance-free formula, making it a perfect match for my sensitive skin. Unlike oil-based cleansers that often lead to breakouts for me, the gel texture couldn’t be more gentle. This product leaves my skin feeling thoroughly cleansed but not at all stripped of its natural oils, nor does it leave behind any residue. The inclusion of panthenol and glycerin, two ingredients known for their hydrating properties, aligns perfectly with my skincare needs. Some products claim to be ‘gentle,’ but this face wash truly lives up to its promises.

OFRA COSMETICS Lip Gloss in Blissful, 5 ml - Estimated Value $21.43

Front of Ofra Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Blissful for Ipsy Glam Bag March 2024

I’ve been a long-time fan of Ofra Cosmetics and have yet to be disappointed by any of their products. This Lip Gloss in Blissful has only deepened by appreciation of the brand. First off, I have to say, I don't mind the slanted applicator. My usual preference is a doe foot applicator, but this slanted one wasn't too hard to maneuver, enabling precise and controlled application that I don’t quite get with traditional lipsticks. Next, the gloss itself is richly pigmented with a shimmer that catches the eye and a neutral shade that compliments my skin tone perfectly. It’s impressively buildable, allowing me to go from natural to a more glamorous look effortlessly. But what truly sets this gloss apart is its luscious formula: hydrating, non-sticky, and comfortable for all-day wear. Plus, while I usually prefer unscented products, the subtle fragrance of this lip gloss has won me over.

GOLDFADEN MD Plant Profusion Night Cream, 12 ml - Retail Value $29.00

Front of Goldfaden MD Night Cream for Ipsy Glam Bag March 2024

Goldfaden MD is one of those high-end brands whose products I only use when they come in a subscription box. I’m always a bit skeptical towards a product’s benefit versus its cost, and while I’ve never had a bad experience with this brand, I’ve also never noticed much visible change either. That said, I do appreciate the silky texture of the product, and its non-clogging formula is a pleasant surprise for my sensitive skin. Despite having a slightly thicker feel to it, this Plant Profusion Night Cream is water-based, which seems to prevent pore congestion. Also, limiting my usage to three times per week has been working for me. Coupled with its luxurious feel, this cream envelops my skin in a silky-smooth blanket of comfort without that uncomfortable layer of grease. As far as the scent of the product, I could definitely do without it, but it’s not a dealbreaker. I have noticed that my skin feels smoother and has a slightly more buoyant look in the morning the night after using this.

DAZZLE ME Get a Grip! Makeup Setting Spray, 30 ml - Retail Value $9.00

Front of Dazzle Me Setting Spray for Ipsy Glam Bag March 2024

I love setting sprays, especially travel-sized ones like this. Despite receiving one (from a different brand) in my bag last month, I’m just as thrilled to have this one in my arsenal now, too. My approach when finalizing a look is usually two-tiered; I follow up a coat of spray with a coat of powder, and it locks in my look for the entire day. This Get a Grip! Makeup Setting Spray from Dazzle Me works well to combat my oily skin. The spray applicator releases a perfect amount of mist, delivering a refreshing, cooling sensation with a slight shimmer that soon dries to a flawless finish. Paired with a setting powder, this effectively locks in makeup for the entire day without the heavy feel or excessive shine some other sprays leave behind. While the product has an initial chemical scent, it’s a non-issue thanks to its quick dissipation.

PEOPLE’S BEAUTY Frontliner Mask and Scrub, 15 ml - Estimated Value $11.40

Front of People's Beauty Mask and Scrub for Ipsy Glam Bag March 2024

The People’s Beauty Frontliner Mask and Scrub is a game-changer for anyone seeking efficiency in their skincare routine. A two-in-one, this product combines the benefits of a wash-off mask and a scrub into one simple package. Given my usual reservations about dual-purpose products, especially when it comes to skincare, I was pleasantly surprised with this. This particular formula is a match made in heaven. Simply apply the mask to your face, let it dry down for 10 minutes, and then gently massage the mask-scrub hybrid into your skin before rinsing it off with warm water. This process leaves my skin smooth, not stripped, and without any irritation or residue left behind. I appreciate the delicate balance between hydration and exfoliation. I have to say, I quite like this product.

The Verdict

This was truly a great month for Ipsy Glam Bag! The highlight for me was an unexpected favorite that gives the best of both worlds; People’s Beauty mask-scrub hybrid, which strikes the perfect balance between hydration and exfoliation. Koyal Beauty’s gentle cleanser is one of the best I’ve tried in recent times, and it’s absolutely gentle on sensitive skin but also effective in thoroughly cleansing. Setting spray is a main staple in my makeup routine, and I love getting different travel-sized ones to try; Dazzle Me’s spray helps lock in my look for all-day wear, and with minimal shine. Lip gloss is another main staple, and I’m always happy to see an Ofra Cosmetics product in my bag. The neutral shade works well for everyday, and the texture is divine. Lastly, the night cream from Goldfaden MD was a pleasant surprise, giving me visual results the next morning after applying this cream the night before. Overall, I thought this was an impressive bag, with a solid variation of products (leaning towards skincare, which is always my preference), and the value is quite nice.

Overall, this sounds like a great bag. I wish I had received these products, except for the setting spray.
