First Impressions
Look at this - three days before springs debut, and already the Walmart Beauty Box spring box appeared at my door! I am all about timeliness, and the last few shipments have been early, which is a pretty darn impressive. What was in store for this beautiful season? Read below to find out!
This quarter we received a pamphlet detailing the glow collection offered for spring. With over 11 different options listed, you are guaranteed to receive at least five great finds. Being a mix of skin care, hair care, and make-up, the choices were rounded out quite well, but just what size items did they send?
Palmer's Coconut Oil Amino Bonding Complex Bonding Conditioning Mask - FULL SIZE - Retail Value $2.38
Apparently, Palmer's has been around for 180 years, so they have to be doing something right? Correct?! While I am familiar with their Cocoa Butter products, the hair care line is new to me. Packaged in a large foil pack, we received a full-sized conditioning masque. Packed with Coconut Oil, Arginine, Biotin, and Collagen, this masque nourishes hair while protecting it from styling tools. Not only is it proven to protect hair growth, but also strengthen hair without the use of Parabens, Phthalates, Mineral Oil, Gluten or Dyes. I have fine, thick hair, that is color treated and in need of a hair cut, and it worked wonders for me. I applied this cream from root to tip and left in my hair for the full 10 minutes. After rinsing, I air dried my hair and felt an incredible softness that wasn't there before. Even after utilizing the entire package, my fine hair didn't look greasy, and the overall effect was lovely. I will definitely be purchasing this product in the future!
COVERGIRL Clean Eye Color Eyeshadow Palette - FULL SIZE - Retail Value $9.98
As you can see here, the inevitable finally happened... I received a damaged product, and of course it was the big ticket item! As a millennial, I am still using eyeshadow, and I can proudly say, I will continue to do so. This neutral colored palette is something I would definitely purchase because I loved the mix of metallic and matte tones. Sadly, this palette was crushed and created a mess in this season's box, but with a quick email to [email protected], I had a reply within 24 hours with a note stating they are extremely sorry for the inconvenience and will be shipping me a new box. In my years of reviewing, I have never received a damaged product, so I have to say I am impressed with my luck, as well as with the speedy customer service. What did you guys think of the palette? Was the staying power as impressive as prestige brands?
UPDATE: I finally received a replacement box, and my eyeshadow arrived in perfect condition. With a buttery texture, this shadow's neutral colors worked great on my skin tone and created a really lovely smokey eye. Overall, I am very impressed and will continue to utilize this product in my daily make up look!
Dove Advanced Care Travel Sized Dry Spray Antiperspirant Deodorant - Estimated Value $2.10
I've tried a lot of deodorants and antiperspirants in my day, but have yet to find a women's version I love. (I've currently been using the same Old Spice version my husband does.) While I love a more feminine scent, I run pretty hot, and the scent doesn't carry through the day. That has now changed, because this dry spray worked really well! With notes of cucumber, honeydew melon, and green tea, I loved this scent, but was skeptical as to how well it would hold up. With a promise of protection from sweat and odor for up to 72 hours, I applied this spray in the am before school. With a full school day at hand, along with a stressful state basketball game, I not only didn't smell like onions, but my shirt stayed dry as well! Honestly, I wasn't thrilled by the inclusion of this item at first because it seemed a little boring, but hey, I've found myself a keeper!
Heritage by Mindy McKnight Scrunchie Pack - FULL SIZE - Retail Value $5.17
Scrunchies were definitely a big deal when I was growing up so it's a little odd to see them coming back into style. At 35, I thought I was a little too old to pull off this trend, but went for it anyways. Featuring two large scrunchies made from shimmery corduroy fabric, this version is definitely more fun than the stiff, small ones I had stuffed in my "Caboodle". Paired with a cream colored top and jeans, I added this to my slung back pony, and actually received a few compliments. Sweet!
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Cream Sample - Estimated Value $2.63
The last item I received is one I am familiar with. Neutrogena is a brand I have purchased in the past, so I was excited to try their new Hydro Boost Water Cream. Fragrance-free and including hyaluronic acid, this cream is clinically proven to hydrate skin for over 72 hours. After a single use, they promise 9X more hydrated skin, and glowing skin after 2 weeks. With such a small sample, I don't think I'll be glowing by the time it's gone, but I did find it to be light, easy to apply, non-greasy, and hydrating.
Verdict
With another early arrival, I was really excited to see what the spring Walmart Beauty Box had to offer. After discovering the item with the highest retail value was destroyed, I was quite disappointed, but impressed by Walmart's customer service response. In the email response, it was mentioned that I would be receiving an entirely new box at no charge, which is impressive as only one of the items was damaged. (I just received a shipping notification today) Overall, this month's box had a retail value of $22.26, which is more than 3 times the cost of the box, and had a great mix of haircare, skincare, and makeup. I did find it interesting however that with 11 listed products, I received two items that weren't listed. Past inclusions maybe? Even so, with this curation, I am already excited to see what they will have up their sleeve for the summer quarter!
