Allure Beauty Box — April 2024 Review

Allure Beauty Box is a monthly subscription box by Allure Magazine, a beauty-focused publication, that offers six or more products, with at least 3 full-sized products, each month. Subscriptions cost $25 per month, although right now, Allure is offering a flash sale where you can take up to $25 off a subscription with the code “WELCOME”. It’s also one of MSA’s top beauty subscription boxes for 2024.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

white box with red text that reads Allure Beauty Box

I knew at least one product I’d be receiving before my box came: a Charlotte Tilbury bronzer, which I was able to customize back in March before my Allure Beauty Box for April shipped. I am very pale in complexion, so I tend to use very little bronzer, but I was still excited to try out this popular product from the famous Charlotte Tilbury line. Aside from that product, I most looked forward to the Bag Balm brand lip balm in this month’s box, because lip balm is an everyday essential for me.

To be honest, the rest of the box seemed underwhelming to me before I started trying things on. There was a lash serum, something I didn’t think I’d use, a pore-control cream, a perfume oil, and a sample of a hair shine gloss. This box also included a $100 voucher for Naked Wines (for a purchase of $160 or more), which I knew I wouldn’t be cashing in on.

Still, I’ve been surprised by some items in previous boxes that I didn’t think I’d like, so I tried to go into this month’s box with an open mind.

What's Inside the April 2024 Allure Beauty Box

Charlotte Tilbury bronzer in package

Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Sun-Kissed Glow Bronzer in Fair, 0.74 oz (full size), Retail Value: $58 for 0.74 oz

I knew this was a full-sized product, but I was blown away by how massive this bronzer product is. It’s bigger than the palm of my hand, and it would take me nearly a lifetime to hit pan on this.

I love the shade, which is a really light bronze that works with my very fair skin complexion and doesn’t leave me looking orange. As a cream bronzer, it also just feels really nice to apply this bronzer to the skin.

By/ Rosie Jane brand perfume oil in rollerball container

By/ Rosie Jane Missy Perfume Oil, 7 mL (full-size), Retail Value: $28 for 7mL

This rollerball perfume oil promises notes of frangipani, green mandarin, coconut, and pineapple. Because of the coconut, I didn’t think I’d be much of a fan of this scent, but it really worked well with my skin. I thought it would be perfect for summer. The coconut notes hit my nose first, but then mellowed out into a really nice balance of fruity and floral notes. The scent is lasting — I could still smell it hours after applying.

I also like the small size and rollerball applicator, so I can leave this in my purse and add a little to my wrists any time I want a boost of fragrance.

lash serum in pink packaging

Grande Cosmetics Lash-MD Lash Enhancing Serum, 2 mL (full size), Retail Value: $68 for 2 mL

I’ll be honest, I decided to skip testing out this product. The area around my eyes can be pretty sensitive, and I wasn’t comfortable adding a serum regularly along my eye line. I don’t even wear eye liner or mascara daily, so I skipped trying this product. (If you’ve tried it, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below!)

lip balm tube

Bag Balm Moisturizing Lip Balm, 0.3 oz (full size), Retail Value: $5.99 for 0.3 oz

I can never have too many lip balms, so I was happy to try out this Bag Balm. While I like the tube applicator less than a stick lip balm, I was impressed by how smoothing and moisturizing this lip balm really felt. It came out of the tube pretty thick, but instantly melted down into my lips without feeling thick, sticky, or greasy. This is an item I already plan to repurchase once it runs out.

grape pore control cream in beige box

Frudia Green Grape Pore Control Cream, 0.35 oz, Retail Value: $24.10 for 1.94 oz

When they say grape, they really mean it. This pore control cream’s first ingredient is grape extract. I’d say this is more of a gel than a cream, and it really does smell like grapes. While I didn’t notice any sort of change in the appearance of my pores after using this for a few days, I did like that it made my skin feel smooth and soft after use. The gel texture seemed like it would be sticky, but it wasn’t at all.

Kérastase Soin Acide Chroma Gloss in small pink sample container

Kérastase Soin Acide Chroma Gloss, 15 mL, Retail Value: $58 for 210 mL

The sample for this product came about a week before I had a hair appointment, so my locks were in desperate need of a refresh. The sample description in the product pamphlet for the April box said this could extend your hair color, and an Allure editor is quoted as saying this product also helped with frizz.

Unfortunately, the sample bottle design was not useful at all for using this product, which has the viscosity of water. I went to pour it carefully into my hand, yet it rushed out of the container, dribbled out of the sides of my palm, and circled down the drain.

The full-size product has a nozzle design that would make it much easier to apply. I wish I could know how effective the little dribble I was able to get on my hair from the sample was before spending the $58 for the full size, though.

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $25 (save more with a longer subscription — 3 months prepaid is $64 for first-time customers or $75 otherwise, and an annual subscription is $225 for first-timers or $300).

Total Value: $185.48 (subscribers also received a $10 store credit, increasing the value to about $195)

Value Breakdown:

  • Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Sun-Kissed Glow Bronzer: $58 for 0.74 oz
  • By/ Rosie Jane Missy Perfume Oil: $28 for 7mL
  • Grande Cosmetics Lash-MD Lash Enhancing Serum: $68 for 2 mL
  • Bag Balm Moisturizing Lip Balm: $5.99 for 0.3 oz
  • Frudia Green Grape Pore Control Cream: $24.10 for 1.94 oz (my sample was 0.35 oz, bringing the sample value to around $4.35)
  • Kérastase Soin Acide Chroma Gloss: $58 for 210 mL (my sample was 15 mL, bringing the sample value to around $4.14)

Key Takeaways

With the sample sizes included, I calculated this box was around $168.48 in value, plus subscribers received a $10 coupon to use in the Allure Beauty Box member store — still a good deal for the $25 (or less!) per month, but not as much value as the three other boxes I’ve received this year, which were all over $200.

The bronzer is lovely and a great item for this subscription box; I just wish it was available in a smaller size! The By/ Rosie Jane perfume oil is a nice summertime scent, but I’m not sure I love it enough to buy it again. I am looking forward to wearing it in the warmer months this year, though, to mix up my usual perfume routine. The pore control cream felt nice on my skin, but I have other products I prefer that offer similar skin benefits. And I can’t speak to the lash serum, since I skipped on testing it out.

I liked the Bag Balm lip balm the most, and it will get the most use out of the products in this box. It is probably the only product I will end up repurchasing, too.

This was a great box with a value of $200+. The Missy perfume oil smells so good and is actually worth $45, not $28.

Rachel

Where is the $10 code for the store? I didn’t see it in my box, and I’m a subscriber.
I really liked this box. The perfume oil and bronzer are worth $25 to me. I think it’s funny to complain that the bronzer is too big!

My eyelashes were about 3mm after a severe whole body infection last year. I started using the Grande lash serum, flicking it on the lash roots n rubbing it in gently.
Within a month, they were about 8 mm n still growing. Granted, volume didn’t increase but with mascara, they look great.

Based on the settled lawsuits I’m disappointed they included the Grande Lash and it’s good you didn’t even try it. I won’t even give it to friends. Went right in the trash.

I’m completely unaware of anything being wrong with GrandeLash – can you please explain?
