Here's What's Inside
This month we received 3 board books focused on capturing the magic of birthdays. The books came paired with an activity guide for 3 crafts plus stickers. Let's take a closer look at each book below!
A Birthday for Cow! by Jan Thomas (Author, Illustrator) — Retail Value $7.99
It's Cow's birthday and his dear friends Pig and Mouse are hard at work baking him a cake. They start off using the basics, but then Duck waddles in with his own creative spin. Pig and Mouse try their best to fend the cake from Duck's ingenious idea, but their plans are foiled at the very end. But Cow loves his cake, and especially its distinct topping via the brilliant mind of Duck. We enjoyed this book and appreciated all the comical images.
The Birthday Box by Leslie Patricelli (Author, Illustrator) — Retail Value $8.99
Have a kiddo that's obsessed with boxes? I know I was! This adorable tale is about a young boy who thoroughly enjoys unboxing his birthday gift - a new puppy named Oscar. Oscar and the boy play with the big box he came in and are insanely creative with their repurposing of it. After a day filled with fun, the two new besties curl up together in their box for bed and prepare for a lifetime of adventures together. This tale was quite fun and definitely nostalgic.
Baby Loves to Party! by Wednesday Kirwan (Author, Illustrator) — Retail Value $6.99
You guys, the art in this book was some of the best I've seen in a children's book. The author really made the animals and festivity come to life with the colors and attention to detail she included. And while the book was definitely lively, it wasn't at all chaotic. Maddie had a blast learning about each of the party animals and their contribution to their favorite baby's birthday. I've got some catching up to do for her upcoming 2nd birthday, that's for sure!
Value - Was This Box Worth It?
The Cost: $19.95 per month + $4.95 shipping to the US.

Value Breakdown: This subscription costs $24.90 including shipping. The 3 books that we were sent in the 0-3 age range for January retail at $23.97 and the additional cost for stickers probably cost around $2. If you take into consideration the standard price of shipping on Amazon or other suppliers, then the total retail value is slightly higher than what you pay each month. Not to mention, you receive a carefully curated selection of books, and some fun activity prompts!
Key Takeaways
What a cute theme for this month's box! Each of these tales demonstrated fun ways to celebrate birthdays and defintiely helped us get into gear for my daughter's upcoming birthday in June. While we enjoyed each book, we especially loved Baby Loves to Party! - who doesn't love party animals and their antics???
