First Impressions

Bag for Ipsy Glam Bag June 2024

Each month, Ipsy subscribers get a makeup bag in addition to their items. This month’s theme is "Sunny Days Ahead." I love the positivity of that sentiment. The makeup bag this month looks rather familiar. Whether or not it’s a repeat, the multicolored cloudscape pattern gives a fun cotton candy sky vibe.

Now, on to the items!

BENEFIT Plushtint Moisturizing Matte Lip Tint in 02 Cream Puff, 2 ml - Estimated Value $8.00

Front of Benefit Matte Lip Tint for Ipsy Glam Bag June 2024

I’m always happy to see a Benefit Cosmetics product in my bag; it’s a brand that’s been tried-and-true for years, and they continue to deliver. This Plushtint Moisturizing Matte Lip Tint in 02 Cream Puff is a solid product. While I often reach for a gloss lip product as opposed to a matte, the formula of this tint is impressive. I expected it to dry down and leave my lips feeling stiff, but with the inclusion of hyaluronic acid, I didn’t experience that. In fact, my lips stayed hydrated the entire time. The applicator is a standard doe foot applicator, which I like. What I don’t like, however, is that since it’s a sample-sized product, the wand is so short, making precise application a bit more difficult. The shade 02 Cream Puff is supposed to be an almond pink, but it reads slightly more brown on my skin. It also smells delicious!

WANDER BEAUTY Mile High Club Length and Define Mascara in Jet Black, 3.5 g - Estimated Value $10.11

Front of Wander Beauty Mascara for Ipsy Glam Bag June 2024

Wander Beauty is another favorite of mine, and mascara is a staple that I’ll always reach for. I absolutely love the sleek packaging of this Mile High Club Length and Define Mascara in Jet Black. The shade is definitely a true black, and the mascara’s performance is indeed solid. I appreciate the brush design as it allows for precise application and an even coating, fully separating each lash. This is another really small sample, so again, the wand is just a bit too short. But in any case, it is just right for on-the-go; perfect sizing for tossing into a clutch for a night out or even a Stanley cup pouch, if that’s your style. The formula is definitely buildable, which makes going from ‘natural’ to ‘dramatic’ as simple as can be, and it’s also proven to give a smudge-proof, flake-free, long-lasting day of wear each time.

GIRLACTIK Fruit Superfood Sugar Face Scrub Mini, 15 g - Estimated Value $4.88

Front of Girlactik Sugar Face Scrub for Ipsy Glam Bag June 2024

Ohhh, I love a good sugar scrub, and this Fruit Superfood Sugar Face Scrub Mini from Girlactik is a win for me. I first experienced this brand in the form of a lip gloss, and I have looked forward to trying more products from them ever since. First things first: this sugar scrub smells divine. The fine exfoliant has a unique sand-like texture, and this scrub gently but effectively exfoliates, sloughing off dead skin cells without any irritation. Despite having sensitive skin that’s often reactive to scented products, this scrub didn’t cause any problems. It has a unique, thick jelly-like consistency that’s both visually appealing and fun to use. For the full benefit, wash the scrub off after five minutes instead of right away. All in all, a standout addition to my skincare routine.

JLO BEAUTY That JLo Glow Serum, 5 ml - Estimated Value $12.11

Front of JLo Beauty Glow Serum for Ipsy Glam Bag June 2024

I’m usually skeptical when it comes to celebrity brands, especially for skincare, but the stunning packaging of JLo’s Beauty’s That JLo Glow Serum drew me in immediately. This serum boasts an antioxidant-rich, four-part olive blend aimed at improving overall texture and signs of aging by tightening, brightening, and plumping the skin. With the small sample provided, it’s challenging to gauge long-term improvements in texture, but the initial results are promising. The potent formula didn’t cause immediate irritation to my sensitive skin, but I did find that using it too frequently left my skin feeling a bit on the dry side. While I can’t fully vouch for its long-term tightening effects, this serum leaves my skin with a beautiful, healthy glow.

BUBBLE T COSMETICS Bubble Tea Sheet Mask Duo in Berries and Jasmine, 2-pc - Retail Value $12.00

Front of Bubble T Cosmetics Sheet Mask Duo for Ipsy Glam Bag June 2024

I love a good sheet mask, so I was thrilled to see the Bubble T Cosmetics Bubble Tea Sheet Mask Duo in Berries and Jasmine included in this month’s bag. Applying a sheet mask is my favorite way to add an extra dose of self-care to my skincare routine, and I’m obsessed with the adorable packaging of this duo. With niacinamide, jasmine oil, and vitamin C in the formula, these masks deliver a powerful punch of hydration. The amount of serum in each pouch was generous, ensuring the mask stayed moist throughout the application. The scent is lovely, and while the mask's adhesion was average, it stayed put as long as I didn’t move around too much. After 20 minutes, I removed the mask and rinsed off the remainder with warm water. Though I usually prefer masks where the serum can just be absorbed, rinsing off the residue is a small extra step. Overall, this duo is a delightful addition to my skincare routine, providing a refreshing and hydrating experience.

The Verdict

This was a good month for Ipsy Glam Bag! The highlight for me personally was Bubble T Cosmetics’ sheet mask duo. They provide a refreshing, hydrating experience that doesn’t cause any irritation and allows me to add an additional dose of self-care to my skincare. Girlactik’s sugar face scrub is a lovely product with a delicate, super-fine exfoliant; it smells delicious and has a unique, thick jelly-like consistency that makes it fun to use. Mascara is a constant staple, and Wander Beauty’s lengthening mascara was a hit for me. While the wand is a bit shorter than I’d prefer for precise application, the brush is excellent, separating each lash for even coverage. The glow serum for JLo Beauty, despite my reservations, packs a punch in regard to its effective formula. While it’s a bit harsh on my sensitive skin, it does leave me glowing. Lastly, the matte lip tint from Benefit Cosmetics… It provides more of a natural base color for my lips rather than the almond pink the shade suggests, but it does hydrate my lips much more than other matte lip products out there, so I’ll probably reach for it from time to time. Overall, I thought this was a solid bag. The assortment of products was nicely varied, although I could have done with a bit more emphasis on skincare, but the brand lineup was impressive and the value is there.

I feel the cost for what you get is no longer much of a value with the Ipsy glam bag. Remember, these are SAMPLES which are usually free and really shouldn’t cost more than $3. Some of these so called “deluxe” samples now are so super tiny you really don’t get enough of the product to really evaluate a benefit. The one “full”size item they give is usually not worth more than $15. I decided to go every other month and it’s working for me. I also benefit from the other Ipsy sales that give me more bang for my buck by staying a member. But if this bag keeps going up in cost, it may just be time to let it go.

My bag was totally different, and hideous. I thought the bags were always the same.

Naomi’s bag is from a while back.

I didn’t like the June bag at all, either.
