Here's What's Inside
Welcome Note & Activity
This month we're taken on a "journey across the pond" and introduced to two of what our info card calls "Britain's literary treasures, both old and new." A description of each book is on the card, and on the back are three simple, mess-free activities you can do with your child. A summer-y sticker sheet is also included!
Room on the Broom by by Julia Donaldson (Author), Axel Scheffler (Author) — Retail Value $18.99
Currently on sale for $6.99
I was so excited to get my hands on this book because I'd heard of it and wondered what might be between its covers that makes it so beloved. I get it now! It's a sweet story of a friendly witch who loses accessories as she flies through the air, and the friendly critters she picks up as she lowers to fetch them. The big conflict is when the broom itself breaks and the witch encounters an ill-intentioned dragon. It turns out all her little animal friends team up to rescue her. It's so sweet and a great example of the positive impacts of being welcoming and inclusive.
The Giant Jam Sandwich by John Vernon Lord (Author, Illustrator), Janet Burroway (Author) — Retail Value $9.99
Found on sale for $8.09
We absolutely adore the vintage book we received in April's box, and so my eyes practically popped out of my head seeing another book that's clearly from the '70s. This one is a silly tale about a community of people upon whose village wasps have descended. They come together to think of a solution to rid themselves of their wasp problem, and they collectively come up with the idea to create a giant jam sandwich to attract and trap the wasps. They invent ways to make a huge loaf of bread and a great deal of jam, they work together to make the sandwich, and with the help of the birds they send the sticky wasps away. It's so lighthearted and comical to spend some time in this fantastical world!

Value Breakdown: This subscription costs $29.90, with shipping included. June's box included two picture books—one hardback and one paperback—that add up to $28.98 using full retail prices, or $15.08 using Amazon sale prices. These sale prices are ridiculously low—lower than usual. At full retail value, the contents of this box almost break even, but there is also value to the book selection, activity ideas, and stickers that make this box feel worthwhile to me.
Key Takeaways
We were thrilled to gain a new classic and an old relic on our bookshelves this month. My five-year-old felt a connection with both stories, and so did her three-year-old sister!
