First Impressions
Look at this - right on time! The Walmart Beauty Box summer box appeared at my door on the OFFICIAL start of summer! I am all about timeliness, and after a string of late shipments, this is a pretty big deal. What was in store for my favorite season? Read below to find out!
This quarter we received a pamphlet detailing the warm-weather beauty offers for summer. With over 10 different options listed, you are guaranteed to receive at least five great finds. Being a mix of skin care, hair care, and make-up, the choices were rounded out quite well, but just what size items did they send?
Splat Hair Chalk - Sugar Plum - FULL SIZE - Retail Value $9.99
I have to say, this season's box was quite heavy compared to spring, so I was really excited to rip into it to see what it contained. The biggest (but not heaviest) item was this Splat Hair Chalk Set. Though not even listed on the pamphlet, I am always happy to receive full size products. Complete with a compact of a purplish-pink chalk and a finger sponge, this set allows you to add color to your hair without it being permanent. Starting with dry hair, I separated out a few strands I wanted to highlight with color and spritzed them with a bit of water. Taking the sponge and slipping it over my finger, I rubbed chalk down my hair and added a bit of hair spray to lock in the color. I was quite adventurous with color in my younger years, but have stuck to brunette and blonde since having kids, so this was a fun way to incorporate a little pop of color without it being too much. I wore it out to my son's baseball game, and actually got a few compliments which was exciting. It stayed in nicely, didn't bleed onto my other hair, and washed out easily. Overall, it was a fun way to add some dimension to my current color, without long-term effects - and just look at all of the colors they offer! Fun!
Eva NYC Therapy Session Hair Mask - Estimated Value $1.89
As I mentioned above, I usually stick to brunette or blond hair, and you can see I have recently indulged in some blond highlights. That paired with the summer sun, leaves my hair in need of some deep conditioning therapy. While not full size, this tube is quite large and offers enough product for quite a few hair sessions. Cruelty and GMO free, plus 100% vegan, this mask is also free of parabens, phthalates, and more! Scented with notes of coconut and vanilla, this is really creamy and offers extreme hydration. I can usually use this 2 times a week for softer, smoother hair, and have found the results noteworthy. Cheap enough to buy and long-lasting, I am happy to have received this product.
Bondi Sands Self Tanning Foam - Estimated Value $4.31
I love the summer sun as much as the next guy, and you really can't beat a bronzy glow, but it does come with a cost. As a product of the 80s, I hit the tanning beds too much in my younger years and have three large scars from pre-cancerous mole removals to show for it. I stay away from tanning beds now, and wear sunscreen, but still want that bronze glow. Usually I opt for a color building lotion like Jergens, but since I received this foam I figured, why not? I received the "dark" version, which I was a little hesitant to use, as my skin is pretty light. I tried this on my legs, and I did get an instant boost in color without the orange hue I was afraid of. This is quite potent and you need to be sure to wash your hands ASAP after application, but it really does work in a good way.
Megababe Thigh Rescue Anti-Friction Stick - Estimated Value $5.38
One of my very favorite reasons to subscribe to the Walmart Beauty Box is to try new brands and new products I otherwise may not splurge on. So far, our northern Minnesota summer hasn't brought the heat, but when it does, I will be prepared for it! I tend to wear a lot of dresses and skirts in the summer, and paired with heat and humidity, my thighs do tend to chafe. This stick has a natural, clean odor, and glides on like butter. Rubbing in without a greasy or gross feel, this keeps legs from sticking together. Made with clean ingredients, and small enough to stash in your purse, this is a product I never knew I needed until now - especially because it can also be used on feet, bra lines, waistband lines, and more!
The Shop Face Wash - Estimated Value $2.49
Like I have mentioned previously, skincare is where it's at for me at my age, so I was happy to receive a sample exfoliating cleanser. While it doesn't directly state this, it is a men's skin cleanser, and has a slight barber shop smell (which I totally love!) While this face wash doesn't really create a lather, it has a really nice light exfoliant in it that cleans out pores. The cedar scent is so natural and delicious, and my face felt squeaky clean after use. Even though this is advertised for men, I really enjoyed using it, as did my husband.
L'OREAL Revitalift 1.5% Pure Hyaluronic Plumping Serum - Estimated Value $3.63
I have tried skincare products from the L'Oreal brand in the past, and really enjoy the Revitalift moisturizer. I turn 36 next week, and with that I have been trying to age as gracefully and naturally as possible. Though small in size, I was excited to receive a sample of this serum because I have read some pretty good reviews. Applying twice a day, I have been placing 2ish drops of this serum on my face. Promising to plump skin, I have seen a difference in a single use, and found around my eyes to look less puffy and more awake. I'm very intrigued by the fast results, and am curious to see how using this daily with the other products in the Revitalift line will improve my skin appearance. Looks like a birthday present idea to me!!
Verdict
While only the start of summer, I am all about resting, relaxing, and having fun. Because I am in the mid-throes of summer vacay, I was really excited to see what this summer Walmart Beauty Box had to offer. One of the heavier boxes to date, I was extremely excited to see what it could hold, and was really impressed with all of the skincare and haircare products. Overall, this month's box had a retail value of $27.69, which is more than 3 times the cost of the box, and had a great mix of haircare and skincare. With this spot-on curation, I am excited to see what they will have up their sleeve for the fall quarter!
