Allure Beauty Box open with skincare products inside

Allure Beauty Box is a monthly subscription box by Allure Magazine, a beauty-focused publication, that offers six or more products, with at least 3 full-size products, each month. Subscriptions cost $25 per month, although right now, Allure is offering a flash sale where you can get your first box for $15 with the code “SAVE”. It’s also one of MSA’s top beauty subscription boxes for 2024.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

First thing’s first: I’m sorry this review is a bit late! My box didn’t show up this month until July 17, leaving me very little time to turn around a review before this box is no longer available for purchase.

Anyway, I saw quite a few brands in this month’s box that I already like, including Tula, YSL, Sunday Riley, and Malin + Goetz, so I was excited to dive in. I did notice there weren’t any hair products, and the only “makeup” product was a primer, which I don’t really use. Still, it looked like a promising selection of skincare and an enticing perfume (dark rum? Yes, please!) to try out for July.

What's Inside the July 2024 Allure Beauty Box

Tula Skincare Glow + Get It Cooling Eye Balm, 0.35 oz (full-size), Retail Value: $38 for 0.35 oz

I have used several Tula products that I like, including the purifying face cleanser and the exfoliant sugar scrubs, so I was looking forward to trying this eye balm. It was really easy to use; I just swiped it gently under my eyes and that was that.

The feeling was instantly cooling, which helped me feel more awake after applying early in the morning (although it didn’t do anything in terms of fading the appearance of my everlasting dark circles). But then that zesty, tingly feeling just didn’t go away. Even 45 minutes to an hour later, my eyes still felt like they were buzzing. That might be ideal for some people, but I would’ve liked that sensation to fade away a little quicker. Still, this is nice to have for a pick-me-up.

Malin + Goetz Dark Rum Perfume Oil, 9 ml (full-size), Retail Value: $36 for 0.3 fl oz

Upon my first sniff of this perfume, I was instantly put off. Something about it smelled almost like dying flowers, as weird as that may sound. But I still gave it a shot, and I am so glad that I did. When this fragrance combined with my skin, it became something entirely different. I didn’t get rum so much as jasmine, honey, vanilla, plum, and amber. Honestly, the scent was really sultry, and it’ll be my new go-to for date nights. I’m also considering buying the body wash and lotion in this scent.

Flanerie Pore Refining Exfoliator, 45 ml (full-size), Retail Value: £44 (about $57) for 45 ml

This was probably my favorite product in this month’s box. The exfoliant is really gentle thanks to the larger exfoliator beads, and the smell is amazing. The ingredients include calendula flower extract and aloe vera, but I thought this smelled just like fresh cucumbers. Using this was like taking a mini spa retreat in my bathroom, and it did leave my skin feeling softer.

YSL Beauty Touche Éclat Blur Primer, 10 ml, Retail Value: $56 for 30 ml

Truthfully, these days I don’t wear much foundation, instead opting for tinted sunscreens for light coverage, more sun protection, and a subtle glow. So while I knew I wouldn’t get much use out of this product, it did feel pretty luxurious to open the package. The gold box opened to reveal a clear primer flecked with gold. Again, I didn’t think the gold sparkles were really practical for an everyday primer, but I gave it a try anyway.

This felt really nice to apply. It has a very light, cloud like texture, and it didn’t leave behind a gummy or sticky texture. It did, however, leave behind a faint trail of gold glitter all over my face. That’s probably not ideal for some people, but I didn’t mind.

Byroe Golden Carrot Overnight Relief Mask, 10 ml, Retail Value: $142 for 65 ml

Based on the price for the full-size version of this overnight mask, I expected this to feel like a pretty luxurious product to use. The texture was very thick, and the mask smelled nice, almost like grapefruit (although it’s actually made with upcycled carrots and ginger). It instantly had a subtle tightening feel, which then mellowed out. But as I got into bed, I noticed it felt really heavy on my face, despite applying a thin layer of product.

The next morning, I noticed the redness around my face was calmer than usual. I thought it was just a coincidence, but I checked the product description online and found it is actually designed (and clinically proven) to calm redness. While it was effective at that, it did make my face feel slightly greasy. I’ll likely use up this sample, but I’m not sure that I would repurchase. However, for anyone concerned with redness, this might be a great solution.

Nativa Spa Rosé Body Lotion (Travel-Size), 30 ml, Retail Value: $6 for 30 ml or $29 for 400 ml

I’ve had mixed results with some of the hand and body creams in my Allure Beauty Box, and this month’s lotion pick just didn’t do it for me. It smells nice, like a gentle, floral, rose (not quite rosé, as the label suggested) scent, but I’m not big on rose. It soaked into my skin quickly, which was ideal for my dry skin, but then it left behind a greasy feeling for about an hour after applying. It might be good for an overnight lotion, but I don’t know that I’d repurchase this for myself.

Note: This lotion is available for sale in both a travel-size bottle or full-size. This month’s box included the travel size.

Sunday Riley B3 Nice 10% Niacinamide Serum, 30 ml, Retail Value: $65 for 30 ml

Sunday Riley B3 Nice 10% Niacinamide Serum box

I’m already a big Sunday Riley fan; I use the CEO hydration cream and the Luna night oil fairly regularly. But when I squeezed some of this niacinamide serum into my hand, it was a little off-putting; it came out in a thin, brown liquid. It felt slightly drying right when I applied it, but once it soaked into my skin, my face felt really soft and smooth.

Note: This was actually a gift with purchase for new members, not part of the regular July box.

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $25 (save more with a longer subscription — 3 months prepaid is $69 for first-time customers, and an annual subscription is $250 for first-timers).

  • Flanerie Pore Refining Exfoliator: £44 (about $57) for 45 ml

Key Takeaways

This month’s Allure Beauty Box introduced me to some new must-haves to add into my routine. I’ve already been browsing the Malin + Goetz website for the other dark-rum scented products, because that scent was a huge hit with me. I’m also obsessed with the Flanerie Pore Refining Exfoliator, and I might explore some of the brand’s other products because I enjoyed using this exfoliator so much. The other winner in this month’s box for me was actually the new member gift with purchase, the serum from Sunday Riley, which had instant smoothing and softening effects on my skin. I look forward to seeing how it performs with longer use.

I received the Sunday Riley product in an Allure box in 2023. Not sure of the expiration date?

The Tula did not give me any short term tingling.

Hi guys,

The b serum should be purplish, not brown. That has oxidized 🙁

I received the serum in one of these subscription boxes and it was a light lavender when I first started using it. After a while though it did turn into that brownish rancid looking color. I actually reached out to Sunday Riley today and they gave me an excuse, saying that the color varies when new from purple, brown to a deep mauve color and all of it is normal. I don’t believe that since I know mine was light purple when I first started using it. I wasn’t even halfway through the bottle before it changed colors. Such a shame since I use Sunday Riley almost on the daily basis and I’ve never had a problem with their products changing colors and going bad.
