Birchbox is a monthly subscription box that sends samples (and sometimes full sizes) of new and exciting beauty products from top brands. Despite being out of the game for a minute, the subscription is back! Birchbox is one of the original beauty subscription boxes and is a great way to discover new makeup, hair care, and skincare products (four to six items every month) without breaking the bank.
This is one of our top recommendations if you are looking for a subscription box — the value and sample sizes are amazing. Just like Ipsy, Birchbox sends out many different variations of their bag each month — so my review is just one of the bag variations you might receive!
My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes).
First Impressions
This month's theme, ''Backyard Beauty,'' is delightful, and the fun card inside the box adds a charming touch. Of course, it would be even better if the card included detailed information about each item in the box, but I do appreciate the sustainability effort.
Now, on to the items!
ALGOLOGIE Hydra-Replenishing Booster, 15 ml - Estimated Value $21.00
I am always happy to find a good face serum. Since the French brand Algologie is new to me, I was even more intrigued. Living in California during the hottest months, my skin constantly craves extra hydration, and lightweight products are a must-have to avoid clogged pores. I was thrilled to discover that this Hydra-Replenishing Booster is a gel product, which suits my needs perfectly. The emphasis on hyaluronic acid in the formula is a huge plus, as it locks in moisture without irritating my sensitive skin. After applying the serum, my skin feels noticeably more hydrated, and there was no noticeable scent. This serum has quickly become a staple in my skincare routine, delivering the hydration my skin needs to stay healthy and refreshed.
ARROW Weightless Brow Tint in Dark Brown, 3 g - Retail Value $17.85
Brow gels have become a makeup essential for me, and the Arrow Weightless Brow Tint in Dark Brown is a standout product. This shade blends seamlessly with my natural brow color without being overpowering. When I first applied it, I was impressed by how it didn’t leave my brows feeling stiff. I’ve often had other gels dry down like hair gel and flake off by the end of the night. Instead, this brow tint keeps my brows flexible and comfortable for all-day wear. The fine brush allows for easy, precise application, ensuring even distribution for a natural look that holds perfectly. It’s so weightless that I often forget I even have it on. This brow gel has definitely earned a permanent spot in my makeup routine.
ARROW Color Enhancing Lip Balm in Coral, 4 g - Retail Value $15.00
Here we have another Arrow product; hooray! This Color Enhancing Lip Balm in the shade Coral is truly enjoyable. I love the smooth, creamy formula, which glides along my lips without any stickiness or greasiness. The slight mint scent to the product is refreshing, and the texture couldn’t be more perfect. It’s hydrating without feeling like Vaseline. Also, it never dries down to an uncomfortable hold, making it a pleasure to wear all day. The best part is how it enhances the natural color of my lips, giving them a subtle but noticeable boost. This lip balm is a win for me.
SAND AND SKY Australian Pink Clay Flash Perfection Exfoliator, 10 g - Estimated Value $2.90
Sand and Sky has been around for a while, and I’ve never been disappointed by their products. Their Australian Pink Clay Flash Perfection Exfoliator is no exception. As a mask enthusiast, I can always appreciate a good clay mask, and this one stands out as a new favorite. The cool sensation upon application is refreshing, and as it dries down, it continues to feel soothing and never irritating. Washing off the mask was a breeze, leaving my skin feeling refreshed, slightly tightened, and refined. What I love most about this mask is its dual-action formula. While it pulls out impurities from deep within my pores, it also provides exfoliation, delivering clear and smooth skin every time.
KLORANE Anti-Pollution Detox Shampoo with Aquatic Mint, 25 ml - Estimated Value $1.38
I can never have enough hair care, so I’m always thrilled to see hair-related products in my box. This Klorane Anti-Pollution Detox Shampoo with Aquatic Mint was a surprising hit with me. As someone who typically isn’t a fan of heavily scented products, I absolutely love the fresh, invigorating scent of this shampoo. It works wonders as a detox, providing a thorough clean without stripping my hair of its natural oils. I like to use detox shampoo once or twice a month to remove product build-up from my curl cream, hair oils, and other such hair products, and this one can handle it all. Although the bottle is a bit small, I might be able to get two uses out of it. My only issue is the packaging; the hard plastic bottle makes it difficult, if not impossible, to get out all of the product compared to a squeeze tube. Despite that, this shampoo would likely be an excellent addition to anyone’s hair care routine.
KUESHI Brightness and Volume Mask, 50 ml - Estimated Value $10.00
Hair masks are everything. This Kueshi Brightness and Volume Mask has quickly become a new staple of mine. The creamy, almost paste-like texture spread easily through my hair, coating each strand thoroughly with its hydrating formula. I actually love the scent; it’s reminiscent of warm vanilla, making application an even more pleasant experience. I appreciate the generous size of this sample as the tube provides enough product for several uses. What stands out most about this mask is its short application time. Unlike most masks that require 20-30 minutes, this one only needs three. For me, five minutes works best, giving my hair the extra hydration it craves. After washing it out, this mask leaves my hair feeling soft, full, and incredibly nourished.
The Verdict
This was a solid month for Birchbox! The highlight for me was perhaps the most simple product… Arrow’s lip balm offers truly comfortable hydration that enhances the natural color of my lips with the slightest coral tint. The detox shampoo from Klorane was another win for me as it helps to remove all the product build-up and really clarify the scalp every now and again. I love a good hair mask, so for me, Kueshi is another must-have. The creamy, hydrating mask has such a short application time that I have no excuse not to use it; plus, it leaves behind truly nourished hair. The new-to-me brand, Algologie, was fun to try, and their hydra-replenishing booster is perfect for my sensitive skin, hydrating without irritating. Arrow’s brow tint is a perfect match for me, and it provides a flexible hold without stiffness. Lastly, Sand and Sky’s exfoliator mask… This dual-action mask exfoliates and purifies simultaneously without causing any irritation to my sensitive skin. Overall, I thought this was a really good box with a good value. The product variation includes some items selected by me and some selected by Birchbox themselves; I really appreciate this extra bit of personalization, and I’m glad that the subscription has chosen to incorporate it into their curation process.
