Ipsy is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. For $14 per month, you get five full-sized or deluxe-sized products, plus a cute makeup bag.
This is one of our top recommendations if you are looking for a subscription box — the value and sample sizes are amazing. Just like Birchbox, Ipsy sends out many different variations of their bag each month — so this review is for just one of the bag variations you might receive!
My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes).
First Impressions
One of my favorite features of the Ipsy glam bag is the excitement of the bag design. I have been a subscriber for years, and the fun designs (and of course awesome products) leave me coming back for more. This month's bag switched it up completely, and was actually a 9" X 7" cinch bag instead of the traditional zip pouch! The yellow floral pattern was printed on silky pastel pink fabric with black and white ties. Cute and extra functional, I am loving this switch, and am curious to see if we will receive more bags like this in the future.
Also included is a product card that features the "Passport to Glow" theme, information about the contents of this month's bag, and items coming this August.
Now, on to the items!
AILOVI Soft Matte Foundation in Beige 5 - Deluxe Sample - Retail Value $6.67
As a teen, I struggled very heavily with acne. I have some scarring that needs covering up, so I use foundation on the daily. I typically prefer a light coverage that is buildable, but was happy to try out this high coverage one to see the difference. With a matte finish, this foundation helps conceal imperfections and stays put. It also matched my skin pretty darn well, which was amazing for a sample box. Temperature wise, it has been in the high 80s lately, and this product did a great job at staying put, and left my skin looking flawless throughout the day. I highly recommend this foundation for wedding season, as the full coverage paired with the long lasting finish leaves you photo ready all day!
FIRST AID BEAUTY Facial Radiance Pads - Deluxe Mini - Estimated Value $6.00
The next product I received was a set of 10 Facial Radiance Pads by First Aid Beauty. Created to exfoliate skin without irritation, these pads contain lactic and glycolic acid, cucumber, licorice root, and Indian gooseberry to brighten and tone skin. Scented with an extremely light fruit note, these pads did tighten my ultra oily skin, and helped create a smooth base for my foundation. Keep these suckers away from your eyes though - I got a little too close and felt the burn!
NEEN Duo Eyeshadow Brush - Full Size - $26.00
One of my full size items this month was this eyeshadow brush by NEEN. While I do like the fact that it is two sided, I just don't use brushes very often. I prefer using my fingers for application, or an old school foam brush that my main squeeze eyeshadow palette includes. I did use this to blend out my lids, but just felt clumsy with it. One side is smaller for precision work like crafting a cut crease, but I just struggled. This brand seems decent enough, it just isn't an item I really need at this point of my makeup application career.
KEYS SOULCARE Protect Your Light SPF 30 Daily Moisturizer - Deluxe Sample - Estimated Value $3.60
At 36, my skin is a little confused right now. Typically it is dry, so this moisturizer is helpful, but of course right now it is super oily. After using the Radiance pads, this went on nicely and I was happy to have the extra SPF support. It didn't leave my already oily skin oily, and it felt light, didn't stink, and dried fast, which was great to apply the Ailovi foundation on top of. Overall, this helped create a great look to my skin and kept me moisturized, sun protected, and fresh all day.
LITHE BEAUTY Night & Day Eyeshadow Palette - Full Size - Retail Value $32
The last item I received, and the one I chose for the month, was this eyeshadow palette. Featuring two shimmery gold pans and four matte ones, these colors pair with my brown eyes perfectly. With a buildable formula, these are similar to my favorite daily colors. I found the shadows to stay on for the entire day without creasing or flaking. I was very happy with my choice this month and am happy to add this palette to my daily make up routine.
While this month didn't contain a lot of make up items, it did have the fixings for a really nice looking base for it! For this look, I used the radiance pads on my clean skin, followed by the Keys Soulcare moisturizer. After drying, I added the Ailovi foundation, and applied the Lithe Beauty eyeshadow with my eyeliner, and mascara. Love it!
Verdict
I love Ipsy Glam Bag and am always excited to try out new beauty products. While I have brands that I adore, I am an equal opportunity makeup user, and love seeing if my current faves can be outdone. I went ahead with the full size eyeshadow palette as my choice, and was very happy. While I didn't love the makeup brush, I did enjoy the other three items, and was impressed with the fact that the foundation actually matched my skin tone! For $14, you seriously can't go wrong! What do you think will be in store for the August curation?! I can't wait to see!
