Smartass & Sass was a monthly subscription box for sassy ladies. This was their final themed box. June’s box was a mixture of past items. There’s more information about the (unfortunate) end of Smartass & Sass after the review.
Each box contains full size beauty and lifestyle items from Smartass & Sass and various other sassy businesses. The shirts are comfy unisex T's available in sizes XS-4X.
This box was paid for by Smartass & Sass. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)
First Impressions
Warning: This review is not for the faint of heart! If you’re offended by bad language, this probably isn’t the review or box for you! If you’re like me and thrive on poor language and bad ideas, this is definitely a subscription box you need in your life! Consider yourself warned!
This month's theme was: “Resting Beach Face” and it was all about having a (sassy) beach day!
Let’s Hit The Beach!
“Not Today” Sunglasses - Retail Value $19.95
Sunglasses are a great way to start a beach themed box. Their cheerful sunny yellow color is perfect for summer. On both sides of the glasses is the phrase, “Not Today.” Two words. So simple but they convey so much. Just pop on your sunny sunglasses and tell the world to back off, because, “Not Today!”
Vitamin “D” - Sunglasses Case - Retail Value $14.95
And here we have the perfect accompaniment to sassy sunglasses: a snarky case! It’s covered in a plain, soft velvet exterior which hides its inner sass. I love the bright color of the case because it’s easy to find in my purse. Inside, it encourages you to, “Get That (Vitamin) D!” (Vitamin) D is vital to your health and happiness and it’s easily obtained right now. So, go get it, girl!
Hydrate Or Diedrate Sticker - Retail Value $3.95
A Sassy box wouldn’t be complete without a sassy sticker. This one has a pretty silver holographic background and a funky font to match the funny phrase. My friend Elizabeth asked for this one. Since she’s a bada$$ soldier and snark sister, I’ll be sending it her way. Thanks for your service, Elizabeth; remember to hydrate!
“Freaking Ray Of Sunshine” Mesh Tote - Retail Value $24.95
Yay for a beach tote! This one is well-made and the material is perfect for the beach because you can throw sandy items into it and it lets the sand filter out. I love that it’s black. Why black for a beach tote? Because, I’m just a, “Freaking Ray Of Sunshine!”
Spicy & Salty Rollable Sun Hat - Retail Value $24.95
A beach hat? We’re on a roll! Literally, because this one rolls up to save space in your bag. It’s made by the San Diego Hat Company; a great maker that I believe I’ve seen items from in past subscription boxes. This came in such a timely manner for me because I’m trying to hit the pool at least once a week. And the sun is my enemy! I’m super pale; I don’t tan, I burn. So a sun hat is exactly what I need.
This one is particularly great because, aside from rolling up, it gives off subtle snark. Lining the rim of this straw hat is a blue band that proclaims: “Spicy Since Birth. Salty By Choice.” I like that the sass isn’t super obvious; I can walk around feeling salty, without shouting it too loudly.
“Don’t Make Me Salty“ Beach Towel - Retail Value $29.95
OK, we have a winner! A beach towel? Yes, please! What a great way to round out a beach themed box. This towel isn’t made from material you’d traditionally see on a towel; it’s microfiber so it’s on the thinner side and very soft. Because it’s not super thick, it’s easy to fold up and fit into your ray of sunshine beach bag. Microfiber is also a fantastic material for a beach towel because it dries quickly. Not that that’s been an issue considering it’s been 300 degrees outside! Special thanks to Jamie for modeling this towel along with the glasses, hat and tote.
Don’t Forget To Pack - Collectible Sticky Notes - Retail Value $4.95
The fifth, and final mini sticky notepad set is a packing list. A packing list perfectly compliments the beachy theme of this box! Whether you’re headed for a beach vacation or even a family trip to the pool, this little list is handy. The best part is that this box provides just about everything you need to have a great summer day. Margarita not included. Unfortunately. (That’s in a different subscription box!)
“Beach B*tch” - Bonus Collectible Sharpie - Retail Value $4.95
This last item is a bonus. In 2023, Smartass & Sass included a different themed (and colored) Sharpie in each month’s box. This marker fits the beachy vibe of this month’s box so well that it’s a nice addition to it. I love the teal color and the phrase printed on it: “Beach B*tch - One Hot Mother.” This summer certainly is shaping out to be just that!
Let’s Be Mermaids - Unisex T-Shirt - Retail Value $24.95
May’s shirt was one of my all time favorites! Teal is one of my favorite colors and I love anything mermaid related so this shirt was an instant hit for me. Here is my dearest friend, Caline, modeling it. There she is, sitting in Psych class, pissed about not being a mermaid! She said that the shirt felt true to size, was long enough to wear with yoga pants and was crazy soft! In other words, perfect!
The Verdict
May’s theme, “Resting Beach Face,” was a really fun way to prepare for and celebrate summer! The box was full of totally practical and useful items. I’m keeping (and using) everything in it (aside from the sticker that Elizabeth requested). In fact, I’ll be at the pool tomorrow so my black ray of sunshine beach tote is already packed with my sassy shades in their snarky case, the salty beach hat rolled up next to the soft towel. What a fantastic box!

To Wrap Up
Can you still get this box if you sign up today?
No, here comes the bad news. May’s box was the final themed box from Smartass & Sass. June’s box was a compilation of items from past boxes.
Value Breakdown: The May Big Box (including T-shirt) cost $69.95 which means each of the 8 items (counting the T-shirt) cost an average of about $7.77. That’s a great value!
Sadly, Smartass & Sass was forced to close its doors! Unfortunately, due to financial issues and the poor economy, Smartass couldn’t continue. Abby, the gal behind the box, promises that we’ll see her in the future in a new, snarky adventure.
I've been a subscriber for years before I started reviewing it. In fact, Smartass & Sass was the first box I reviewed for My Subscription Addiction. Over the years, I’ve really enjoyed the levity and laughs that Smartass & Sass has brought to my life.
Stay tuned for a review of the final box sent out from Smartass & Sass. It’s a compilation of past items. And there are a lot of them to look forward to! I’ll also share a hint of what Abby, and the Smartass team, are up to now!
