First Impressions

This month’s theme is "Summer Love." One of the subscription’s classic tote bags was included this time around. The phrase printed on the front is a favorite of mine: “Know Your Worth Then Double It.”

BLACK GIRL SUNSCREEN Moisturizing Sunscreen Lotion for Face and Body SPF 30, 89 ml - Retail Value $18.99

Front of Black Girl Sunscreen for Cocotique June 2024

I’m always on the hunt for the perfect daily sunscreen, and this Black Girl Sunscreen Moisturizing Sunscreen Lotion for Face and Body SPF 30 has been an impressive discovery. The texture is incredibly smooth, making it a joy to apply every morning. I love that it absorbs quickly into my skin, leaving no white cast whatsoever, which has been a major issue with other products in the past. The inclusion of natural ingredients like avocado, which helps to moisturize and protect against sunburn, and jojoba, which soothes the skin, is a huge plus, especially for my sensitive skin. Not only does this product provide excellent sun protection, but it also leaves my skin feeling fresh, hydrated, and completely non-greasy. Definitely my new go-to.

PARISSA Face and Lip Wax Strips, 20-pc - Retail Value $11.99

Front of Parissa Wax Strips for Cocotique June 2024

These Parissa Face and Lip Wax Strips were a unique inclusion in this month’s box. They’re handy for quick and easy hair removal, especially when in a pinch. These strips are ready to use straight out of the package and only take a minute to activate, making them super convenient. I love that the wax is cream-based, which not only makes it easier to use but also less intimidating, especially for anyone who’s new to at-home waxing. The process is straightforward, and the results are smooth and without extra irritation. I also appreciate the thoughtful inclusion of post-wax oil, which is perfect for soothing my delicate skin afterward. While I might not reach for these strips all the time, they’re definitely a reliable option to keep on hand for those moments when a quick touch-up is necessary.

PH-D Boric Acid Sensitive Foam Wash, 178 ml - Retail Value $8.99

Front of PH-D Foam Wash for Cocotique June 2024

I love PH-D’s entire line of products, but my favorite is their Boric Acid Sensitive Foam Wash. Truly spectacular. I’ve used it before and have always had a great experience. The luxurious foam makes cleansing feel like a spa experience, and I love how easily it rinses off, leaving no residue behind. It’s incredibly gentle on my most delicate skin, which is a relief since many products can cause irritation for me. What really sets this wash apart is its pH-balanced formula, ensuring comfort with each use. Plus, this wash is completely unscented, which is my preference. My number-one choice for a sensitive, reliable wash, and an essential part of my routine.

ÉN LOVE BEAUTY Coconut Milk and Aloe Vera Forever For Edge Control Gel, 100 ml - Retail Value $7.00

Front of En Love Edge Gel for Cocotique June 2024

Edge gel is a must-have for me, and if I do say so myself, I can be quite picky. That said, this Coconut Milk and Aloe Vera Forever for Edge Control Gel from Én Love Beauty is a real delight. First off, the scent is wonderful, reminiscent of a vanilla cake. The gel itself is so easy to work with; it glides on smoothly and doesn’t get tangled up in the bristles of my edge styler brush, which is a big win in my book. I was impressed by the strong hold it provides, keeping my untamed baby hairs in check all day long without any of the dreaded flakes or residue. The formula, enriched with nourishing ingredients like coconut milk, aloe, and marula oil, is one of the best I’ve used.

ÉN LOVE BEAUTY Hydracurls Hair and Scalp Oil with Hyaluronic Acid and Aloe Vera, 44 ml - Retail Value $14.99

Front of En Love Scalp Oil for Cocotique June 2024

Here we have a second haircare product from Én Love Beauty. What a wonderful addition to my haircare routine this product has turned out to be. I love the light mint scent; it’s refreshing without being overwhelming. The formula is rather gentle on my scalp, too. Unlike other minty oils that have left my scalp tingling or even with a burning sensation, this one feels soothing and causes zero irritation. Plus, it does a fantastic job of hydrating both my hair and scalp, leaving my curls looking shiny and healthy. I’ve noticed that it takes a little extra time for the oil to fully absorb, but then again, I can be a bit heavy-handed at times.

Verdict

This was an awesome month for Cocotique! The major highlight for me was the sunscreen lotion from Black Girl Sunscreen; it provides excellent protection without leaving a white cast, absorbs quickly, and keeps my skin feeling fresh and hydrated. PH-D’s sensitive foam wash is one of my regular go-to products that effectively cleanses without irritation, making it perfect for sensitive skin. I can always use more hair care products, and this box included not one but two from Én Love Beauty. Their edge gel offers a strong hold with a delightful vanilla scent and no flaking or residue. Their scalp oil was another win for me, providing nourishment to my curls and scalp that’s worth the extended absorption time. Lastly, the Parissa face and lip wax strips… While not an everyday product, they are so convenient and easy to use that I’m grateful to have them on hand for times of need. Overall, I thought this was a great box. The products were varied with a nice selection of skincare to haircare to personal care, and the value is there.
