Ipsy is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. For $14 per month, you get five full-sized or deluxe-sized products, plus a cute makeup bag.
This is one of our top recommendations if you are looking for a subscription box — the value and sample sizes are amazing. Just like Birchbox, Ipsy sends out many different variations of their bag each month — so this review is for just one of the bag variations you might receive!
My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes).
First Impressions
One of my favorite features of the Ipsy glam bag is the excitement of the bag design. I have been a subscriber for years, and the fun designs (and of course awesome products) leave me coming back for more. This month's bag had a girly athletic vibe, which was definitely a nod to the olympics, and I really enjoyed it! The felt embroidered letters really popped on the pastel pink bag, and the yellow lining and green zipper pull helped to create a bright bag that was really colorful, but worked. Great for travel, organizing, and daily use, I love these bags and am looking forward to adding this sporty version into the rotation!
Also included is a product card that features the "Beauty Olympics" theme, information about the contents of this month's bag, and sneak peeks about the limited edition mystery bags!
Now, on to the items!
MANNA KADAR COSMETICS Flawless Finish Dual Powder in C3 - Deluxe Sample - Retail Value $7.58
The first item we received was a flawless finish powder. This finish powder came in the color "C3" which was a little light for my skin tone, but featured other things I was more concerned about. Flipping the box around, there was a warning label from the state of California about this product containing chemicals that may cause birth defects and reproductive damage in males. Obviously, I am not male, but seeing this is off-putting, especially as I had some fertility issues myself. Powder isn't my go-to for my face make-up anyways, so this wasn't really a product I was into to start with, and that warning label definitely didn't help. What did you think of this inclusion?
YC COLLECTION Authentic Glazed Liquid Highlighter in Creamsicle - Full Size - Estimated Value $18
I love a full size product, and this highlighter is beautiful! Featuring a foam brush, this is easy to apply and has a lovely shimmer that isn't over the top, but noticeable. I apply a small amount to my cheeks and nose after blush, and have loved the results. I also place it on my collar bones for definition, and I have even applied it to my lids as an eyeshadow primer and found it to work great. A great inclusion (and one that has a higher retail value than the entire monthly bag!)
DALLAS & JAMES SKINCARE CO. Watermelon Dream All-In-One Eye Cream - Deluxe Sample - $9.10
The next item I received was this deluxe sample of eye cream. With a slight watermelon scent, this light pink cream works to brighten skin, smooth lines, reduce puffiness, and strength skin. This small tube was full, so I have been enjoying many uses, and find it to really help my puffy eyes, all while being vegan, cruelty-free, and natural. I prefer to apply this as part of my nightly routine, but don't find it greasy or hard to wear at all. As I'm getting older, I have been really looking for ways to help keep my skin as smooth as possible, so I am always up for trying items like this one. A little spendy for the full size container, I did enjoy this cream and am thinking about taking the plunge with the bigger version.
KORRES Greek Yoghurt Nourishing Probiotic Gel-Cream - Deluxe Sample - Estimated Value $21.16
Like I've mentioned before, I am 36, and my skin has been sort of a disaster lately. Though I struggled with acne as a teen, my skin has been fairly decent up until about last year. Now there are cycles of extreme oily skin and acne, which I think may be attributed to perimenopause. I just went through two weeks of terrible skin, and magically without changing any products, am back to my usual old self (thank goodness!) I've been applying this probiotic gel-cream, and am finding my typical skin to be hydrated and happy! With a soapy scent, this greek yoghurt containing cream is not super heavy, and leaves a moisturized, non-greasy feel. The tube itself is of decent size, and I'm interested to see how it would affect my skin when it's having its crisis. I don't know that I'll have enough to test it out by then, but I might jump on the full size version to see.
MI-EL SKINCARE Honey Infused Sugar Scrub - Deluxe Sample - Retail Value $5.04
The last item I received, and the one I chose for the month, was this tube of honey infused sugar scrub. In the summer, my hands are in rough shape due to all of the gardening I do. My husband endearingly comments on my "hobbit feet" and I need all the scrub I can get to clean my digits up. This scrub not only smells like sweet fresh honey, but it has a coarse grit that works to scrub out dirt, grim, and dead skin. Featuring pineapple and papaya extracts, aloe, and honey, it creates a great base for shaving as well. Overall, this is definitely a product I needed in my life, and am glad I chose it!
Because I didn't receive a lot of make up items, it's hard to show a photo of this month's products in use, but did want to show off that pretty highlighter!
Verdict
I love Ipsy Glam Bag and am always excited to try out new beauty products. While I have brands that I adore, I am an equal opportunity makeup/skincare user, and love seeing if my current faves can be outdone. This month I was impressed with the highlighter, eye cream, probiotic cream, and sugar scrub, but was discouraged when I saw the warning label on the powder. Overall though, after setting aside the powder, I enjoyed this month's curation, and for $14, you can't go wrong. What do you think will be in store for the September curation? I can't wait to see!
