First Impressions

Each month, Nourish Beauty Box usually arrives in a box with an info card that has a quick overview of the box on one side and more detailed information about the products included on the other.

Hey, y'all! It's time to get beautiful with Nourish Beauty Box and this month had some hits and some misses (because I have to be honest). Keep reading to find out which products stole my heart and my wallet, and the ones I might've given to my sister since Mr. HGL can't wear makeup.

Now, on to the items!

Nourish Naturals Butter Pop Tinted Liquid Balm, 0.07 oz. - Retail Value $16

Since I loved the last Butter Pop gloss, I was thrilled to find the same item in a more natural-looking hue. This nourishing lip treatment in Rose Glace glides on smoothly and adds a subtle pop of color. It's formulated with vitamin-enriched shea and cocoa butter to help heal and soothe chapped, dry lips, and a blend of biomimetic jojoba oil and castor seed oil helps further nourish and hydrate skin. It's available in four subtly tinted shades.

Here's the swatch for Nourish Butter Pop in Rose Glace on my wrist and lips.

Seraphine Botanicals Shiso Glow Dewy Pre-Primer Moisturizer, 0.46 oz. - Retail Value $35

I discovered the power of a good primer back in 2019, and I've been obsessed ever since. So, of course, I was thrilled to discover a primer in this month's box—I only had a few squirts left of my ELF primer. I love the smooth feeling of silicone primers, but sometimes they feel a little dry.

Formulated for those who need a moisture boost as a base, this vegan cream-gel formula feeds skin with plumping hydration and creates a glowing, dewy-smooth canvas. With a soothing, antioxidant-rich base of aloe vera, shiso seed oil and echinacea extract and a potent blend of arginine and hyaluronic acid helps promote collagen production and keep your skin looking smooth and youthful.

Well, I looked like I dumped olive oil on my skin. My hair stuck to my face, and I looked like I'd just returned from a run through the rainforest. Sure, it's dewy and moisturizing, but my makeup slid down my face and settled into my pores and eyes. Sigh.

Here is a swatch of the primer on my wrist.

So Susan Cosmetics Hera Mist Fortifying Scalp & Hair Spray, 0.61 fl oz. - Retail Value $42

When I first saw this mist in the box, I tore it out (without reading it) and sprayed it on my wrist. But then discovered it's for my hair and scalp and spritzed away! Does it work like dry shampoo?

Named after Hera, a mythic Greek goddess known for her luscious locks, this hair and scalp treatment helps encourage healthy hair growth while keeping the scalp so fresh and so clean clean. Formulated with rejuvenating menthol, which provides relief to an itchy, irritated scalp and reduces oil secretion. It also contains argan oil, known to stimulate follicle growth and promote soft, strong, shiny, frizz-free hair.

I'm always a little cautious about adding product to my hair because my scalp and strands are so greasy and that's why I have to wash my hair every day. I haven't had a change to get to use this much, but I will bring it on vacation with me!

Jelly Pong Pong's Balm of Bliss Tinted Liquid Lip Therapy, 0.35 oz. - Retail Value $25

I remember Jelly Pong Pong from my beauty editing days at First for Women and had no idea they were still around! Quick back story: when I worked as a beauty editor, we'd receive so many samples of makeup, skincare, haircare, and body essentials, that I'd send out a bimonthly box of product to my friends or family and Jelly Pong Pong was often included.

This glossy tinted balm adds such a glassy look to my lips, I love it! Formulated with plant oils such as castor seed, sunflower oil, kalahari melon, plum, and soybean oils, this colorful glaze of protection creates healthier, softer, and deeply moisturized puckers. It glides on easily and lasts for hours, creating a juicy, luscious appearance, with or without lipliner.

Here's a swipe of the balm on my wrist and lips.

Verdict

This month's box had some hits and misses, but since I have naturally oil skin and scalp, a super moisturizing primer won't work on my face. I was a huge fan of both the lip gloss and lip balm and I've gotten a lot of wear out of both of them. As for the hair spray, the jury is still out there!

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $39.95 for a monthly plan

Value Breakdown:

  • Butter Pop Lip Gloss: $16
  • Shiso Glow Primer: $35
  • Her Mist: $42
  • Balm of Bliss: $25

The total value of my box was $118, which is a good value for a $39.95 box. Sadly, I found the two most expensive items to be the least worth it. Maybe I should spray Mr. HGL with the hair mist!

If shopping were an Olympic sport, I’d be a gold medalist. And while my bank account often feels the crunch, I just can’t stop buying secondhand clothing and accessories, under-the-radar designer goods, stuffed animal unicorns (I have about 75), and toys for my pet bunny rabbit. After 20 years of city slicking in NYC and DC, I now have a car and love to tour the Virginia countryside looking for vintage shops, undiscovered wineries and breweries, historic sites, and Thai restaurants—I’m addicted to Thai food. I never leave home without a spare phone charger because I love horror movies and therefore have an irrational fear of being stranded somewhere with a dead battery.

I love when your bun makes a cameo! I was wondering if MSA could check out some of the rabbit subscriptions out there? I also have an English Angora and would love to treat her to something if they have a good review. Maybe BunnieBox or BinxBox?

I would love that and so would Mr. HGL. I just don’t think there’s much interest from the bunny boxes.

I, also, like the looks of the two lip items, but I can’t justify getting the box just for them.

I’m confused about the hair mist. I’m not sure why you would think it was a perfume when it clearly says “hair and scalp spray” right on the box. Also, if it is supposed to help with hair growth, obviously you wouldn’t see results after just one use. You spritz it on damp hair (not sure if you used it on damp or dry hair) and then massage into your scalp to relieve itching and promote follicle growth. So if your scalp isn’t itchy, it’s not a good product for you, and the hair growth is going to take a while to show. It seems like you saw the part about your scalp feeling refreshed for longer and thought that was the only benefit. Just seems like the review of this product really missed the boat.

I have a habit of not reading packaging or instructions, and this has cost me a lot of wasted time in life. But anyway, the former beauty editor in me smells things immediately, so when I unpackaged it, I sprayed it on my wrists! I was just trying to say that it’s not worth $42.
