Silk + Sonder September 2024

I can't believe I'm writing this, but summer vacation is officially over! I am back at work, and with cross country and fall baseball just starting, my schedule is more jam-packed than ever. How does one keep things straight without losing my marbles you ask? With Silk + Sonder of course! Seriously, this journal contains my life, and has become a necessity in my everyday schedule!

While Silk + Sonder is a journal, it is also a planner, stress reliever, focus improver, mood booster, and productivity increaser! Centering around a new theme each month, this book has it all, and aligns with my needs perfectly. With 60 pages of amazingness, I look forward to opening this journal each day, and have found it to help keep my anxiety under control.

Knowledge: Facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject.

I absolutely love this month's introductory letter from Meha. In it, she mentions the fact that knowledge has the incredible ability to transform us. It opens our minds to new possibilities and allows us to see the world with fresh eyes. I love this and will definitely keep this in mind, especially throughout the school days. Not only are these introductory letters always uplifting, but they contain great wisdom as well. Now let's dive in to this month's journal!

One of my favorite aspects of Silk + Sonder is receiving a new planner each month. Starting "fresh" has been really helpful, as yearly planners make me feel overwhelmed. While this does feature an entire year calendar, it is too small to start filling, but big enough to reference for the future. To start my month, I fill in my calendar with dates I already know, and watch the month fly by! (Hey there cross country and hello again baseball!) Staying organized is a huge help in managing my anxiety, and being able to quickly reference this calendar at the front of this planner is exactly what I need.

On page 6, we open up to a "Future Log." This includes two small calendars for the upcoming months. With just enough space to write small notes, I tend to use this for the big things we have planned, but keep it pretty open. On the opposite side, you find some graph paper for notes, lists, or anything your heart desires.

Page 8 offers a space to reflect on the previous month. With an area to write down your wins, challenges, and favorite moments, this is a great way to learn what works and what doesn't. This page is one of my favorites, as it shows all of the month's accomplishments. It also features an area to write things down that you want to start, stop, and continue. August was cram packed and so much fun! We did extremely well at this years local county fairs, and the kids were extra well behaved! My challenges for the month included a garden display whoopsie, the fact that I had to head back to work, and our busy sports schedules, but all of those Division Champion ribbons we received definitely made up for it!

I love the inclusion of the monthly intentions page. Here, you set intentions for yourself, and re-read them throughout the month. With six categories and six boxes to complete, there is plenty of room to jot things down. This isn't necessarily a to-do list, but a place to get yourself off to a good start and remind you of things that you would like to work on. My September intentions are actually similar to August, but my increased income will definitely help the money management box!

As I have mentioned above, this is more than just a planner, and these trackers are proof of that. Page 10 and 11 offer a mood tracker and habit tracker. We are given space to fill in what our typical moods are, and fill it out throughout the month. This is great for tracking patterns, especially for me and my anxiety. I love the fact that these are customizable to track exactly how you want in such a pretty way! Silk + Sonder typically ships a week and a half before the next month starts, so I haven't started tracking September yet. But I definitley fill up these entire sections by the end of the month. I find this to be a great way to hold myself accountable, and while I keep some of my goals the same, tend to switch things up to keep it exciting. As you can see, I only have four habits listed for September. With such a change of schedule, I decided to keep it minimal and work really hard to hit those instead of adding more just to say I did.

Page 12 offers another tracker, this one being for sleep. I have no trouble in this department, so I usually skip it. The opposing page, however, is another one of my favorites. Page 13 offers a Gratitude Jar with lots of empty space to fill with things we are grateful for. I actually like this one more than the daily activity so I can add more (and start it early since we receive the journal early!) It's amazing how many things we have to be grateful for each and everyday! Looking back on this throughout the month is a reminder for those extra hard times, when it's difficult to keep a positive mindset.

Because this month's theme was "Knowledge," we received three thoughtful prompts regarding this topic that asks us to dive a little deeper into our interpretation of knowledge. When asked about the most valuable advice I've gained, a lot of little things came to mind, but at this point in my life I am all about "giving it to God." He is fully in charge and knows a lot more than I do, so placing it in his hands has taken a lot of stress off of me! Page 15 offered a different type of activity in which I wrote a letter to my younger self. It requested advice and wisdom I would share with my younger self. I didn't get into a whole lot of detail, but can tell you, I had some thoughts about it that I didn't feel comfortable writing down! Everyone has a backstory, and I can tell you that I feel lucky to be where I am today! Thanks be to God!

The next activity was a sketching one, and I have to admit, these aren't my favorites. While I love drawing, this just isn't something I'm into. For the "Knowledge Sketch" they asked you to choose three things and sketch or jot down questions, observations, or learnings on them. I wasn't feeling this activity so I skipped it. Is that bad? Absolutely not! Use this journal as you see fit! Page 17 features a very wise poem from an unknown author regarding knowledge and self-care. This poem pretty much sums up the motivational speaker our district hired to speak at yesterday's inservice day, so that fit in pretty nicely!

Page 18 and 19 offer two more fun activities: an adult coloring page, and a "Acrostic Poem" page. I love the adult coloring page, and check it out - I finished almost the entire thing already! Can you tell I needed to self-soothe after a full week of back to school?! It was oh so relaxing!! The Acrostic Poem actually came pretty easily for the theme of "Knowledge" and was fun to re-read in terms of what knowledge means to me.

Every Silk + Sonder journal comes with a recipe, and though I typically don't try them, do appreciate the thought. This month's "Apple Cider Mocktail" looked delish, but I didn't have any ginger beer on hand. Has anyone given this recipe a go yet? How did they turn out?

On the opposing page, we received a "The Highlight of My Day" prompt. This activity features 30 spaces for each day of September. Since this month hasn't started yet, I haven't started it, but I love adding this to see just how great each and every day is!

Blank sheets are always helpful and a great place to do some long division, write notes, and jot down addresses!

Each month we are given some sort of mind puzzle, and this month it was a labyrinth (maze) and a riddle. These paired together help kick my morning off to a good start. The opposite side features an expense tracker, and while lovely, because I utilize a Google doc, don't fill this out. Again- use this journal how you see fit!

While all of the activities are really useful, helpful, and great, I tend to put most of my time into these calendar pages. With sections for meal plans, to-dos, habits and activities, shopping lists, and specific day sections, I write everything here. It keeps me on schedule for each day and feeling accomplished, and there is NOTHING more satisfying than crossing out an item on my list.

Tidying up with one last quote, the dictionary definition of "Sonder", and the back cover, that's all there is to it. I have come to find that a key part of my day is when I sit and fill out my planner with my cup of coffee. This quiet time happens before the kids are awake, and kicks my day off to a good start before I start my school day. It is extremely important for me to keep a consistent schedule for managing my anxiety and creating much more positive life, and this journal definitely is a big help in that.

The Verdict

As we head into September, our schedule is wild, which stresses me out. Because I need to stay organized, Silk + Sonder has become a necessity, and without it, I'd definitely be lost. This month's planner was designed beautifully, and I loved the "Knowledge" theme and how to incorporate more of that mindset this month. I continue to be impressed with this subscription, and can't wait to see what's in store for October.

I typically tend to allocate about 15-20 minutes a day to this journal and flip from front to back reflecting, adding to, and processing what I have previously written. By the end of the month, my brain feels much more organized and stable. The beauty of this planner is remarkable, and the packable size means I can tote it around in my purse. Being extremely impressed with all aspects, I am really looking forward to discovering more about myself, all while staying organized and offering myself a little daily quiet time and important self-care.

I don’t know the answer to the riddle this month, but I saw your goals to keep listening to worship music and I have to recommend you listen to the Oh Hellos if you don’t already- they don’t make exclusively worship music, but they have quite a bit, and they’re one of my favorite bands! I also recommend checking out the song ‘Graves Into Gardens’ by Elevation Worship if you haven’t heard it!

I loved reading your comment.

I’ve been digging on the Healing Project ( collective of spirit filled believers based in Nashville) lately. Highly recommend checking it out! The song “ sound mind, live” is so good! The whole new album is great. There’s a prayer track about taking authority over the spirit of fear that’s so flipping awesome!

I also really love Josh Garrels.
