Stitch Fix Women’s Fashion Review September 2024

Have you ever taken inventory of your closet only to realize almost everything is years old and no longer flatters like it once did? That is where I was at. It seems after having kids and getting back into the work force, my sense of fashion went to the wayside and I'm here to take it back!

While this isn't my first rodeo when it comes to fashion styling boxes, this was my first go-around with Stitch Fix, so I was excited to see just how this service works. Living in the country has its perks, but limited shopping opportunities is definitely one of the downsides. This service not only eliminates a drive to town, but also the frustration of finding nothing that matches my style or size. That coupled with the fact that I have two young boys that hate being toted along, makes for an exhausting day. Plus, who doesn't want to try on items in front of their own mirror with their own accessories?!

The big question of the day is how will my stylist do? Will she hit it out of the park or strike out? My hope is that this box will help me update my wardrobe all while finding pieces that are versatile and fun.

Stitch Fix is an online personal styling service and one of the most popular women's fashion subscriptions. You tell them all about your style and size preferences through their very specific style quiz, and then they send you a package of carefully selected stylish goodies to try on at home. The styling fee is $20 a month for your stylist, but that fee goes towards any items you choose to keep as a discount.

My Subscription Addiction received a credit for this box. (Check out the editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

The box arrived in perfect condition and was dropped off right at my door. From the moment it left the warehouse, I have been receiving updates in regards to the status of this box, so I knew exactly when it would arrive. (I may or may not have rushed out of school a minute early to get home and open it!)

Each shipment contains a personalized letter from your stylist along with an invoice. This document lists everything included in your box along with the size, color, and cost. All items are then totaled up, and you are given two different prices - one reflects the 25% "Buy All" discount, and the other does not. Also included are check out instructions, app information, and online outfit cards. If by chance you are not satisfied with your items or need to do an exchange, we also received a prepaid shipping bag which can be placed in the mailbox and sent off.

Style Preferences

Though the style quiz was mentioned above, here is more information about how items are selected for your Fix. When you create your account, you will be asked a series of questions. Not only do they ask you about your clothing sizes, but also how often you'd like to receive items based on categories, style preferences, and pricing preferances. You are also able to leave a profile note with more specifics to your likes and dislikes. To really hone in on your style, there is also a screen in which you rate outfits as either thumbs up or thumbs down creating your "StyleFile". This quiz only takes a couple of minutes, but the multitude of aspects do a great job at finding items that will create looks personalized for you. Any other "Boho Rebels" out there?

While you can just head to the Stitch Fix website to do your ordering, I highly suggest downloading the app. It's extremely user friendly, and offers a multitude of outfit ideas for items in your Fix. Not only that, but the "Freestyle" tab offers "Buy Now" opportunities! I also found that if you ❤️ items in this feature, there is a chance you may receive them in your Fix. This month, two out of the five items were ones I had liked, and the other three were similar to items that I liked. Plus, you can purchase the other items paired with your picks directly from their site.

What’s Inside

Love Ellie - Mia Back Detail Sweater – Retail Value $49

Size: L | Color: Dark Grey

Fall is in the air, and after a lovely summer vacation, I am back to work. Because our summer was so busy, I never even tried to go "school clothes" shopping for myself. In the note to my stylist, I mentioned I was in the market for school appropriate clothes, and actually "liked" this exact sweater in the "Freestyle" section of the Stitch Fix app. Made from 54% rayon, 30% polyester, 16% nylon, the fabric of this sweater is extremely soft and machine washable. The heather grey color was flattering, and I love, love, loved the back criss-cross detail! When it comes to quality, the stitches are well sewn and even, and there is even a little extra decorative stitch along the arms for added flare. Overall, I am impressed!

This sweater paired with jeans offered a casual look, but paired with black slacks created a more sophisticated look. Though I like to push my arm sleeves up, when left down they hit at my wrists perfectly, and the material is so comfy and cozy. Great for home and work, this sweater will definitely become a staple in my outfit rotation!

Democracy - Kathryn Ab Solution Itty Bitty Bootcut Jean – Retail Value $88

Size: 10 | Color: Indigo

I love a good pair of jeans, and when I was sorting through my dresser drawers, I discovered I am completely off trend with all of the skinny versions I own. I liked a few pairs on the "Free Style" tab of the app, and while this exact version wasn't marked, I do love them! My tummy is marked as an area I want to hide/keep covered/avoid on my style preferences, and these "Ab"solution Itty Bitty jeans do a great job at that! With slimming panels constructed to mold and hold and boost your assets, the fit of these jeans is just right. The inner elastic band helps keep things smooth and comfortable, all while holding in my tummy. I loved the indigo wash, and appreciated the stitching on the back pockets. While I will forever be a skinny jean girl, I feel much more on trend in the bootcut style, and found the length to be perfect. The style, design, and quality these jeans offer is second to none, and they truly are my new fave.

These high-waisted jeans fit absolutely perfectly, and paired nicely with the included sweater. I love these jeans!

Violets & Roses - Ruthy Solid Zipper Bootcut Pant – Retail Value $69

Size: 10 | Color: Red

I mentioned above that my "StyleFile" designated me as a "Boho Rebel" and I was surprised. Then I remembered I had liked these fire engine red pants on the "Freestyle" tab and realized it coordinates! If you didn't know, red is my favorite color, and I do like to incorporate it in my outfits. When I caught a glimpse of these dress pants, I fell in love and crossed my fingers in hopes that I'd receive them - and here they are!! Made of 76% rayon, 20% nylon, 4% spandex, these slacks are machine washable and have an elastic waist band for extra comfort. The size 10 fit perfect, and the length was just right. Every aspect of these pants is high quality, and I plan on wearing this to an upcoming conference in October.

I am absolutely loving these red pants! The high-waist fit gives a comfortable feeling and holds me in securely, and they fit my waist, legs, and butt perfectly! A little loud for some, I appreciate the splash of color and will wear these proudly!

Les Serein - Tara Lattice Trim Blouse – Retail Value $39.00

Size: L | Color: Black

I have to hand it to my stylist, Elizabeth, as she has hit the nail on the head with my Fix this far. Here I received a black blouse that aligns with all of my preferences. Flattering, flowy, and in another one of my favorite clothing colors, this fit really nice. Made from 100% polyester, the app suggests tucking it in, but I preferred it left loose. I felt it paired nicely with the red pants, and I appreciated the sleeve cut, as it is a great transitional piece from summer to fall. With the addition of a blazer, it can be worn all year round, and creates a polished, yet casual look depending on the accessories. The small detail around the neck enhances this tops beauty, and though simple, I love it!

Styled with jeans and a red lip, you have an instant polished casual look, but with dress pants, you can take it to the next level. Simple, yet classy, this top was definitely a winner.

Gilli - Caiti Chiffon Dress (sold out in Dark Green, link to dress in Red) – Retail Value $69.00

Size: L | Color: Dark Green

Fall is in the air, and Elizabeth paired me with a really fun floral chiffon dress. I have had my eye on a few dresses like this, but haven't found a color I really fell in love with. I am all about the florals, and this dark green version was perfection!! Featuring beautiful turquoise, orange, and gold flowers and foliage, this is busy, but in the best way! The sizing is right on par, and the V-neck cut enhances the neck, while still having nice coverage. I love it!

There are so many ways to style this dress, but I knew right away that I needed to add the hat my BFF made for me. I love the fit and length of this dress. It's perfect for school, and paired great with my coveted jean jacket. My first long sleeve dress, I am sold on this trend, and am so thankful Elizabeth included it!

Takeaways

Stitch Fix knocked it out of the park! Not only was this the most painless shopping experience - (I literally did nothing but "like" cute outfits on my phone), but the quality, sizing, and options were amazing!

In terms of styling choices, there are thousands of brands and styles available. I entered my preferences, but found playing on the app and "liking" items in the Freestyle Tab to be more worth my time than endlessly scrolling through Instagram. I feel this gave my stylist a good grasp on exactly what I like, because she chose 5 items I ended up loving, which I don't even think I could do! 🤣

Overall, I am impressed. The quality, overall process ease, and actual items chosen for me were perfection! I also appreciate the "Outfit Ideas" section, and the fact that I can "like" the other items I haven't yet received, in hopes of getting them in a future fix, or by utilizing the "Buy Now" feature. I'm excited to get to know my stylist as well as utilize the notes option for specific events and wants. What a fun box!
