First Impressions
Since Walmart did their reboot a few seasons ago, their shipping has been top notch. The Summer Walmart Beauty Box showed up on the exact start of summer, and this box made it to my mailbox on the official start of autumn! I am all about timeliness, and I just couldn't wait to see what this season might bring. What was in store for this beautiful fall? Read below to find out!
This quarter we received a pamphlet detailing the "fall for beauty" beauty offers. With over 10 different options listed, you are guaranteed to receive at least six great finds. Being a mix of skin care, hair care, and make-up, the choices were rounded out quite well, but just what size items did they send?
Olay Cleansing Melts + Vitamin C - Estimated Value $1.00
The first item listed on the content card and the first item I opened, was this package of four cleansing melts. I'll be honest, when I first took this out of it's package, I thought it was going to be a toilette, but it magically dissolved in my hands in mere seconds, creating a pile of soap! This daily facial cleanser activates into a rich foamy soap that cleans, tones, and refreshes skin. I personally enjoyed this inclusion, because you don't need to use a wash cloth, which saves me from doing extra laundry. The soap had a gentle natural scent that didn't hurt my eyes, and the overall feel was soft and clean. When I first took this item out of the box, it was definitely overlooked, but now I am a fan. Who knew this would be one of my favorites after giving it a try?!
Degree Dry Spray Antiperspirant - Estimated Value $2.60
Deodorant is always something I enjoy receiving because I obviously use it daily. I do prefer spray deodorants over stick versions, and am always happy to see ones with "antiperspirant" on the label as well. This particular brand and scent contains notes of jasmine, red rose, Tahitian vanilla, and spicy amber, for a warm, clean aroma. I appreciate the fact that it dries instantly and protects for up to 72 hours. Though the labeling says that, I did reapply daily just to make sure I didn't smell throughout the day, (and because I like the warm, musky scent.) The travel size contains enough for quite a few uses, and I like how packable this version is. Comparable to other dry deodorant sprays, this doesn't have any exciting features other brands have, but it certainly smells good and does its job. While not the most exciting inclusion, it is a very functional and useful one that I will use until it's gone!
NYX Professional Makeup Duck Plump Plumping Lip Gloss - Estimated Value $4.32
I have pretty thin lips, but it's never really been a big deal to me. I do use a plumping gloss often, but more because I like the shimmery gloss it contains than for the plumping effect. That being said, the brand I currently use is pretty spendy and I'm always down to find a cheaper version. I was excited to try out this NYX gloss, but got a little nervous when it had the word "EXTREME" on it with an ! symbol. Well folks, that warning is definitely necessary because this is some crazy hot plumping gloss. My lips literally felt like they were on fire. They burned so much, it felt like I had eaten a handful of hot peppers with chapped lips. I took a photo of my lips before the gloss, and when the burning was at its peak, and while there is a shiny difference (obviously) I don't know that this wild product made my lips look any fuller. Honestly, I was a little chilled the morning I applied this, and was literally sweating 5 minutes into the application. Not worth it for me, but maybe a good item to stick in my desk at school, when the temps get really chilly!
Kristin Ess Strand Strengthening Reconstructive Moisture Mask - Estimated Value $1.88
I have pretty fine hair, that tends to get oily quick, so I tend to steer away from moisture masks, bbuuuttt this month this product was perfect for utilizing after the shampoo scrub I'm reviewing below! Thick and creamy in consistency, this mask has a slightly fruity scent and really creates a soft, hydrated look without leaving my hair greasy. While the scent doesn't last as long as I'd like, I was happy with the results I achieved in the 5 minutes it sat on my hair. Overall, I was impressed by this inclusion, and was happy to add it to my beauty arsenal.
Eva NYC Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer - Estimated Value $5.18
I've used Eva NYC products for years, and I am always happy when I receive products like this 10-in-1 primer in beauty boxes. With a plastic spritzer, this primer lightly mists sweet smelling magic onto your hair for tons of benefits! To use, lightly mist on damp hair mid-lengths to ends before detangling or heat styling and receive the following benefits: strengthening, heat protection, frizz reduction, detangling, softening, dry time reduction, shine addition, nourishing, smoothing, and UV protection. Made in the USA, this primer is powered by Argan Oil and Sunflower seed oil, and absolutely does make a difference in hair. I use it everyday, and am happy for the results it has given my fine hair-and love the scent!
Christophe Robin Scrub - Estimated Value $10.00
The last item I received is one that I have never tried before. This shampoo scrub was created to exfoliate oily and sensitive scalps and detox your hair. Featuring large sea salt crystals, it gently scrubs your head and feels absolutely amazing! With a sweet and minty fragrance, this created the most wonderful clean, and massaged into my scalp in the most relaxing way. My fine hair was quite tangled after rinsing this product out, so the Kristin Ess moisture mask came in and helped detangle. Spendy to buy the full size, I appreciated the opportunity to try this out, because it truly was a great experience. Suggested use is once a week or after coloring, so with the deluxe sample I received, I should have a month's worth of product.
Verdict
Fall is here, and with it is work, cross country, and fall baseball. Because we are so busy, I have been feeling a bit bogged down, but my mood brightened when I discovered what the fall Walmart Beauty Box had to offer. Not only did I really enjoy the exfoliating shampoo, but I always love Eva NYC products, and discovered the Olay Cleansing Melts! Though the plumping gloss was wayyyy too spicy for me, I was happy to give it a try, and did end up putting it in my desk drawer for when I get chilled. Overall, this month's box had a retail value of $24.98, which is more than 3 times the cost of the box, and had a great mix of haircare and skincare. With this spot-on curation, I am excited to see what they will have up their sleeve for the winter quarter!
