Opening the Box

Considering it has the word "indulgent" in the box title, I think CURATEUR shows surprising restraint with the items chosen for this special edition spread. There are just so darn many incredible, impressive beauty products out there but they keep it focused on a considered four. They're cushioned by sizzle and wrapped in metallic gold tissue paper.

What's Inside the Fall 2024 Indulgent Beauty Box

There's no info card included for this curation, and in fact the QR code that's provided here takes you to the seasonal box's page. If you enter the code provided on the card you'll get $25 off your first seasonal box. Of course the contents of this box aren't a mystery to those who order it, and it's easy enough to navigate back to the purchase page if you need a refresher on the details.

REPLICA by Masion Margiela Memory Scent Box — Retail Value $39

If you're looking for a signature scent, or if you like to switch things up depending on your mood, this set of 10 sampler perfumes from REPLICA is everything. Each is 2 mL, which honestly takes you pretty far. The perfumes are potent in a positive way. All it takes is a spritz or two to get you smelling good, and they linger nicely. I feel like I have to tell you all the names of the eau de toilettes because it's an expansive variety:

Lazy Sunday Morning, Jazz Club, Beach Walk, Sailing Day, Autumn Vibes, When The Rain Stops, By The Fireplace, Bubble Bath, Under The Lemon Trees, On A Date

It seems they don't strive to capture the exact scent described in the name, but the feeling you might get from each one. I love an artistic interpretation.

In high school I would go to Sephora to visit the perfume wall. I'd pick up every bottle that caught my eye, sniffing coffee beans in-between whiffs, occasionally sampling a spritz, and I'd walk out of the mall smelling like I'd taken a dip in the perfume factory vats. Doing it at home is so much less humiliating. I'm in love with this upgraded scenario. In fact, my three-year-old was absolutely wide-eyed when she encountered this line-up of tiny spritzer bottles, and all at once I realized the urge to cover oneself in too-mature scents is inheritable. When my six-year-old and husband got home and smelled us, they were like, "What is this magical new development in our lives?" The whole family is deeply enjoying the perfumes. Our collective favorite is By The Fireplace. I see that to buy a 10mL tube it would cost me $35, which now as an adult sounds totally reasonable for a scent that makes your family love you more.

Costa Brazil Kaya Jungle Firming Oil, 1 fl oz — Retail Value $98

That was an entire journey, and now there's more. Here we have a golden body oil in a gorgeous bottle. The bottom is rubbery, maybe so you have a nice grip and don't fling your oil while opening it, but it's also removable. This blend is totally packed with oils from plants I haven't heard of—they're "an exclusive cold-pressed Jungle Complex™ of rare Amazonian ingredients to promote firmer, softer, healthy-looking skin. Rich in omegas 3, 6, 9, and vitamins A and E." They manifest in a scent that's light, citrusy, and woody in the palo santo sort of way. Oh, it's so beautiful. It's meant to provide deep moisture, and also firm the skin. It can be used in your hair. With cold weather creeping in, I'm certain this oil is going to be my best friend.

Nurse Jamie Dermascrape Ultrasonic Skin Scrubbing & Skincare Enhancing Tool — Retail Value $89

This facial spatula is an "ultrasonic beauty tool that helps cleanse, unclog pores, and enhance your favorite skincare products by gently exfoliating the skin. The three specialized settings help to temporarily improve skin's overall appearance and glow." You start by wetting your skin, then you can use one positioning to help rub your cleanser in, and to help lift dirt and remove blackheads or clogged pores. Then you flip it over to help your serums penetrate your skin more effectively. It offers three settings of sonic vibrations to do each job.

This is my first beauty tool, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I read through some reviews and I see that there are conflicting sentiments on efficacy. I tried all three settings, and I found that my favorite one is the extracting, pore-cleansing one. I carefully navigated around the curves of my nose, where I had been noticing enlarged pores. After using it, there was a feeling of tightness in my skin like there can be after exfoliating, and it felt rejuvenating to extra-moisturize that area. I'll be curious to see how this tool serves me long-term, but I have reason to believe it will be great to have on hand.

ACTIIV Amplify Lash and Brow Serum, 5 mL — Retail Value $105

Finally, our beauty is indulged by this lash and brow serum. It's meant to promote the appearance of thicker, longer lashes and brows using a proprietary amino acid complex and peptides, supported by natural ingredients. As a child of the '90s I've seen a lot of skinny eyebrow regret by those I love, and I appreciate that we've been embracing full eyebrows. I hope this movement stays around forever.

You start with clean, dry skin and apply this serum to the base of the eyelid for lash care, or to patchy spots on the eyebrows for brow care, and wait 45 seconds for it to dry. You can do this nightly (unless you're pregnant, nursing, or under 18). I am going to stick to the eyebrows, and from my experience there is a slight sensation when the serum is applied. In 30 days' time, you should start to see a difference. Here's hoping for bushy brows in my future!

Value - Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $75. Ships to the U.S. for free, plus Canada, the U.K., and Australia.

This Indulgent Beauty curation by CURATEUR really took me by surprise. I went into it with an "it's only four products, they'd better be good" attitude, and stepped away with a definitive "yes, they were amazing" conclusion. Three of the four products retail at higher than the cost of the entire box, so you already know you're getting a great value. Truthfully I would not have spent $98 on a body oil I've never tried or $105 on a 5 mL bottle of lash serum on my own, but in the context of the $75 curation here, I was given the chance to experience just how quality these products are for a break-down of $18.75 each. The total adds up to $331. I'm super impressed with the value.

Hi there, I'm Christen. I am all sorts of things:

🌳 a writer who loves to convey feeling

🌲 a mother who wants to have just as much fun as my kids do

🌳 an outdoors-lover who prioritizes spending time outside with my family

🌲 a low-maintenance self-carer

🌳 a general hungry person with an unstoppable sweet tooth

You'll find me collecting stationery and squirreling away stickers, riding bikes and swimming with my family, creating outfits in colors and silhouettes that make me feel amazing, wearing big earrings, drinking beer and asking my husband to feed me harmonies to sing, taking my vitamins, living for dancing to live music, roping everyone into a craft, being human and vulnerable, and celebrating the phenomenon of being alive.

...and doing it all with energy, delight, and jokes along the way.

I absolutely laughed out loud as I was waiting in line at “realized the urge to cover oneself in too-mature scents is inheritable.” People stared but I just shrugged. Thank you for the great review.
