Opening the Box
If you've been hangin' around these parts lately, you've seen a resurgence of CURATEUR reviews. And as a long-time lurker, first-time subscriber to CURATEUR, I'm having my awakening with this box. To give an overview of all that is CURATEUR, their seasonal subscription is $112.50 per quarter (with an annual subscription) for six items that span beauty and lifestyle; the single Indulgent Beauty box is $75 for four hard-hitting beauty items, and here now we have the most deluxe of them all: the single-box Gold Curation at $195 for 6 items (but it includes multiple sets, so really it's closer to 9 items). They're deluxe. They feel very serious. They're helping me understand why people invest in high-quality beauty things for themselves.
What's Inside the Fall 2024 Gold Curation
Included in the box is this large card with info about each product inside. They list retail values, which are for the most part accurate. And, there was a coupon for first-time Hello Fresh subscribers to get a discount.
PRADA Beauty Augmented Skin Cream, 60 mL — Retail Value $390
The hero product of the box is this PRADA face moisturizer. It that was created with the brand's unique Adapto.gn Smart Technology™, meant to reveal smoother, plumper, and more radiant skin. I would love to chitter-chatter about the ways this gel-to-balm cream uses proxylane, vitamin CG, and ceramides to rejuvenate the skin, like I would any other moisturizer that might come my way, but any commentary I might have to give feels like an injustice to this $390 designer skincare. The reality is that cutting-edge skincare feels like a gorgeous scientific mystery to me, and I'm incredibly starstruck to have the opportunity to touch this cream to my face.
I'm in love with the texture, and I haven't seen it in any other moisturizer before—its gel consistency is cooling and hydrating, and as soon as you begin to massage it in it transitions into a silky cream that absorbs beautifully. This moisturizer alone is twice the value of the entire box. If you've been curious about PRADA's skincare technology but not been up for mustering the cost, going the CURATEUR Gold Curation route seems like the move.
Westman Atelier Baby Cheeks Blush Stick in Dou Dou, 0.09 oz — Retail Value $26
It's creamy! It's blendable! It's layerable! I can keep going: it's hydrating! It has a natural finish that isn't too glossy nor too matte. Honestly this is my ideal cosmetic. I have a growing collection of eyeshadow sticks and I recently pondered what it might be like to throw everything else away and rely on makeup sticks for everything. I'm not typically a blush-wearer—I tend to keep it simpler than that with just occasional eyes and lips—but now I have no reason to skip it. This warm rose color looks dense on my arm swatch, but it's much lighter on my face.
This stick is primarily a blush but can go on the lips as well. Here I have it on both. I spotted this sun patch in a room of my house and couldn't pass up the moment. Then I stepped into my bathroom and realized how much the lighting really does change how things look on my cheeks and lips. It's lovely, isn't it?
Costa Brazil Creme Para O Corpo, 140 mL — Retail Value $98
This body cream is so rich, moisturizing, and nourishing. It's fragrance-free, but some natural scents shine through, and they have a light, airy tropical-citrus aroma. It's extremely pleasant. Here are the details the brand gives:
"Our rich body cream enhances your skin’s natural vitality. Features an exclusive cold-pressed Jungle Complex™ of rare Amazonian ingredients for lasting hydration and radiance. Packed with omegas 3, 6, 9 and vitamins A, B3, C and E. No added water. No added fragrance.
This is already a go-to as the humidity wanes for the season.
ACTIIV Amplify Lash and Brow Serum, 5 mL — Retail Value $105
The one crossover item from the Indulgent Beauty Box is this lash and brow serum. Its purpose is to promote the appearance of thicker, longer lashes and brows using a proprietary amino acid complex and peptides, supported by natural ingredients. Starting with clean, dry skin, you apply this serum to the base of the eyelid for lash care, or to patchy spots on the eyebrows. You wait 45 seconds for it to dry, and if you use it daily you should start to see a change in 30 days. I tried it on my eyebrows and experienced a slight sensation. There's a note on the packaging that cautions against using it if you're pregnant, nursing, or under 18, I imagine because the active ingredients may not have been extensively tested for safety on these types of users. I thought it was worth mentioning here as someone who has once ticked each of those three boxes at one point or another!
Larry King Smooth and Sleek Set: Flyaway Kit, 30 mL — Retail Value $27
Sleek hairstyles have always been chic. This flyaway kit comes with a tube of finishing cream and a two-ended brush with both a bristle end and a tiny comb end, to make a tidy hairdo look all the more sleek. Where this cream differs from a gel or wax is that it doesn't have a wet-looking end result—it's smooth without being glossy or stiff. I have a cowlick at the front of my hairline and a looser, less precise sense of style, so I've never engaged with the pulled-fully-back look—but I love that this kit exists, it's the perfect duo for the job.
Larry King Smooth and Sleek Set: Spoilt for Choice Hair Oil, 30 mL — Retail Value $38
This next product is positioned as a set with the Flyaway Kit on our info card, but they're sold separately online. It's a multi-purpose hair oil that can be used as a mask, scalp remedy, or styling/finishing oil. It's lighter than other hair oils I've seen, and blended with rosemary oil, which can not only nourish the scalp and reduce flaking, but also help prevent hair loss. It also contains Jojoba seed oil (god of hydration), argan oil (god of healing hair), and squalane (god of replenishing). My hair is naturally so oily that I'd never use an oil on it, but that's too bad because this one has such a fantastic foresty-herby scent. My brother uses rosemary oil for hair retention, and I'm going to pass this along to him to supplement with. The scent works for any gender.
Londontown Perfectly Polished Set, 2 Bottles, 12 mL
Illuminating Nail Concealer - Retail Value $20, Nourishing Cuticle Oil - Retail Value $20, Clear Glass Nail File - Retail Value $12
This box is finished off with a nail trio. In the bottles are a glowy white polish and a nourishing cuticle oil. They're free of mineral oil, phthalates, parabens, gluten, and artificial colors. They pair with a glass nail file that doesn't skip or scrape, glides smoothly, is easy to clean, and is a sustainable option. I used it on a snag on my nail immediately and I love it, instant convert.
First of all, the polish is so much more than a polish. Its color is more sheer and milky than traditional polish, and even a sloppy application manages to smooth itself out on its own. As someone who has only had a few manicures in my life I don't quite have the language for this sensation, but this "nail conditioner" finds its way around the surface of the nail naturally and fills it in nicely. Actually, about a half hour after applying this nail polish, a friend asked if I had a gel manicure. I looked down and thought, come to think of it, it really does look professional! It's extremely smooth-looking and the white-ish color really glows. I've always kept my nails short and rarely taken the time to care for them, but given the neat experience with this illuminating nail concealer, I feel the gumption to give the cuticle oil a try and see what it might lead to.
Value - Was This Box Worth It?
The Cost: $195. Ships to the U.S. only for free.
The CURATEUR Gold Curation is an experience to behold. It's absolutely packed with top-quality beauty items that do what they do well. There are items in there to care for you from the tip of your head down to your toes. While not every single product was up my alley, the value is outstanding, and so I was able to gain an appreciation for some new-to-me brands without feeling like a few misses came at a cost. Everyone from indie brands like Costa Brazil and Actiiv to more established, luxury names in beauty like PRADA and Westman Atelier, are putting out wonderfully well-thought-out products to help us care for ourselves. The total retail value in this box is $736, which means these items are coming your way at nearly a 74% discount. Wow, wow, wow!
