First Impressions
I am a complete science nerd. With a degree in medical technology, I sought out all of the science classes I could as a student and enjoy helping out in those classes as an ISA at my school! Because I have such a passion for science, I am always on the lookout for ways to incorporate it into my daily life (along with my boys' lives). So when I stumbled upon Curiosity Box I just had to see what it was all about! Awesome for adults, a typical box includes premium science toys, experiments, and collectibles. What did I think about this curation? Read below to see!
What's Inside The Box
Up first, we received a postcard with all of this month's contents presented. Utilizing real life photos of each item, it includes a short descriptive blurb and funny phrases.
Also included was a booklet containing in-depth info on each of the included items. With short bursts of information followed by scientific explanations, this guide is packed with really good stuff!
Body Deck
I will never forget my first experience with a Human Anatomy and Physiology class. I was 15 years old and a PSEO student at our local community college. I had no experience with this type of class and the teacher was one of the toughest I would ever encounter. I had to achieve at least a "C" to stay off of academic probation, so I spent countless hours studying. This deck of cards would have come in quite handy back then!! Bendable and clear, these cards assemble into a 3D image of the human body and are super cool. My husband wasn't quite as convinced as me, because he was worried about eventually memorizing the card picture, but I thought they were really neat and exchanged the old deck we had paired with our cribbage board for these cool ones!
Ambigram Escape
This is so stinking cool! I spent wayyy too long trying to figure out this keychain because I was too stubborn to read the directions. My husband is stubborn as well and gave it a go. He ended up getting frustrated and used the tip of his Leatherman knife to hold the balls out of the way so the coin could slip out. When I finally gave up and read the instructions I felt really dumb! If you hold the puzzle by the ring and give it a good flick, the puzzle spins, and the coin falls out. This is because spinning the puzzle imparts a centrifugal force to it, as well as the coin and the ball bearings inside. The coin is at the center, so experiences the least force, and it also doesn't have anywhere to go, being locked in place horizontally. Not only is this a neat puzzle, but the coin features an "ambigram" on each side, so it says both "heads" and "tails". This was definitely one of my favorites items of the season!
EDC Multitool
My husband cannot leave the house without his multi-tool on his hip, so I was excited to slip this EDC "Multifool" into his wallet to see what he'd say. First off, he did notice the increased weight of his wallet and laughed out loud when he started going through the features. With a kangaroo safety gauge, lego attachment, thermometer, bottle opener, and socket for M7.53 hex bolt, this is definitely a conversation piece!
Stickers
Pairing nicely with this month's book inclusion was this set of diagram stickers. I'll be honest, I am definitely more of a science girl than math, but always appreciate stickers to add onto my laptop!
Byrne's Euclid
Like I just mentioned, math isn't my thing. While my algebra skills are decent, geometry is just something I don't like. However, I was pretty intrigued by this book. Originally published in 300 BC, this book has had more than 1000 editions released, which is a number only second to the Bible itself. With many illustrations and explanations, this book was packed with concepts, and extremely interesting. My son is currently in 6th grade and struggling a bit with ratios, but I think this book might just help!
Uranus In a Black Hole
The last item we received was this hilarious t-shirt. I was wearing this t-shirt when my husband came home from work and he just shook his head at me. "If you crushed Uranus into a ball smaller than the circle on the front of this shirt, it would become a black hole." This description is printed on the back of the shirt, with the large black circle on the front. I ordered a unisex size large, and the fit of this t-shirt is definitely more form fitting than previous versions. With the full mathematical equation on the back, it goes way above my head, but made for a hilarious discussion regarding astronomy, astrophysics, and astrodynamics, which I think was the point.

Curiosity Box is a deep-thinker's dream, and this was a really interesting curation. Packed with 6 high quality items, I learned a lot from this box! My favorite items were the escape puzzle, card set, and t-shirt, but I was also intrigued by the book inclusion and multi-tool. Overall, this was a great curation, and I appreciate the items, especially when coupled with the scientific background. This box is a really fun experience, and can't wait to see what's included in the Winter quarter. Bring it on, Curiosity Box!!
