First Impressions
October is here, and we have made it to MEA weekend! After a whirlwind of a week, I am extremely ready for a little downtime, and am loving the fact that we have no plans! To be honest, with an uptick in my hours at work, my anxiety is revving up a bit, so aromatherapy has been a key part in my de-escalating routine at night. This month's Wicked Good box arrived the day I started to feel extra escalated, and really seemed to help things out. With a theme of "Ministry of Magic," Octobers's box encompassed all things enchanted and spooky, which really couples well with Halloween. Read below to see what I discovered.
What's Inside This Box
"Incendio" Perfume Oil Roller, 10 mL - Listed Value $18
Meaning fire or blaze, "incendio" is a beautiful scent made of notes of black patchouli, ghostly geranium, mugwort, jasmine petals, sacred myrrh, ancient cedar wood, and tobacco flowers. Slightly musky, this scent had a brighter essence than I was expecting. The jasmine petals seem to shine the brightest, with the patchouli following closely behind. A great daytime scent, this oil roller is easy to wear, and adds a floral component to my skin that slowly fades throughout the day. Because this is an oil roller, the aroma does last quite a while, but I like to toss it in my purse to revamp throughout the day. A fabulous scent, this month is already off to a great start!
"Amortenia" Eaux de Parfum, 30mL - $39.95
The next item we received was a 30 mL glass bottle of perfume. If you weren't aware, "amortentia" is the most powerful love potion in existence according to the Harry Potter encyclopedia, which is one 't' short in this description of course, but is still fun! Featuring notes of blood red cherry, pink peppercorn, dark saffron threads, rose de mai, shadow peony, cashmere wood, golden amber, and ethereal musk, this scent isn't dark and spooky, but bright and vibrant. I am loving the floral, slightly fruity aroma, and find it wears down to the wood and amber fairly quickly. The fun label design adds to the delight of this box, and I'm so far very impressed.
"Obscuro" Incense - Retail Value $16.00
Incense is not something that I use a whole lot. As a teenager, I remember buying some sticks and a holder but honestly don't think I ever burned them. Once in a while, Wicked Good will send a tin of these cones, and I actually really like them! Made of bamboo charcoal, these cones are hand dipped for the purest and cleanest burn. I have to say, I was a little surprised when I read the fragrance note description as it had the following scents listed: dusty cobwebs, aged mildew, crumbling cement, rotting wood, and decayed fruit! Sounding very much like a antique store basement, I was admittedly a little scared to give this tin a whiff, but ended up loving it! These charcoal cones are a little bit spicy, a little bit dusty, and a whole lot of amazing. One cone burns for 7-10 minutes and leaves a beautiful little trail of smoke. It did get quite strong, so I did travel throughout my house with it, but what a relaxing little inclusion! I am definitely going to need more of these in my life!
"Imperius" Handmade Soap
For all the Harry Potter fans out there, you know of the Imperius Curse and that it is one of the three unforgivable curses. This curse in particular placed a person completely under the caster's control. While this bar of soap did not do that, it sure was a fun inclusion in this "Ministry of Magic" themed box! Black and Orange with swirls of gold, this soap was basically made for October and lathers up into silky suds. With notes of burnt orange peel, crushed cinnamon bark, spiced clove, haunted nutmeg, bewitched sandalwood, enchanted cedar wood, and ember ash, the fruity notes definitely stand out. It is a lovely spicy soap that my entire family finds fun to use and looks great on my vanity!
