Bespoke Post is a monthly membership club that delivers high-quality lifestyle products from up-and-coming brands. It’s voted as one of the best men’s subscription boxes of 2024 by our readers and it’s a great box for women and couples as well.

When you sign up, there’s a quiz to determine your preferences and interests, and then you’re matched with a differently-themed box every month. For $49 a month, each box promises at least $70 in retail value with items ranging from outdoor gear, barware, home, kitchen goods, clothing, and more. If you're not into what's selected for you, there are many others to choose from.

Unlike most subscription boxes, you get to preview your Bespoke Post box before it ships, and you can easily swap for a different box or skip the month for no charge. You only pay for the months that interest you.

This is a review of the "Whittle" box.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

Bespoke Post almost always has a good presentation. They usually have a different, perfect-sized box – or bag – for everything. This was the first time the items seem a little thrown in there. Since it's just a kit of tools and wood, it's not a big deal.

Homecamp Spoon Carving Kit  - Retail Price $84

Maybe my age is showing, but I romanticize sitting on my porch or around a campfire whittling a piece of wood into something useful. Not so much for the functionality of the piece, but more for the meditative aspects of the activity. It seems like something you don't have to be good at to enjoy. This kit includes everything you need to start wood carving.

This kit from Homecamp includes three carving knives, a leather strop, and a polishing compound to keep your knives sharp. Everything fits in the heavy-duty canvas tool roll. They even throw in a small piece of wood to get started with. The knives are made from durable, high-quality stainless steel with comfortable handles crafted from certified walnut wood. From the website, the three knives included are:

  • Homecamp Double-edged Spoon Carving Knife: A double-edged 420 stainless steel blade for hollowing rounded objects like spoons or a Kuksa. Suitable for left and right-handed carvers, it allows effective push and pull strokes.
  • Homecamp Whittling Knife: A ‘Sloyd’ knife made from 420 stainless steel, similar to the Morakniv Mora 120, ideal for woodworking, whittling, and carving.
  • Homecamp Detail Wood Carving Knife: A smaller knife made from 420 stainless steel perfect for fine detailing on small objects or intricate spoon handles.

The kit includes a leather strop and polishing compound for honing and sharpening your knives. There is also a blank wooden billet Basswood block – ideal for beginners with its easy-to-carve, straight grain.

Verdict

I like when Bespoke Post offers things a little outside the norm. Nothing against all the clothes, knives, and items for drinking/smoking, but here is an item I didn't know I wanted until I saw it. A carving kit wasn't even on my radar, and honestly it's something I wouldn't normally buy for myself if it was. Bespoke Post is always looking for interesting and new things to offer its subscribers. There is a little something for everyone.

Let's Talk About Value

This kit retails for $84. That's a $30 value against the cost of this subscription ($54 including shipping). That's a pretty good savings. It's a perfect example of why someone may like this subscription; you can take a shot on something different without paying full price. With the money I saved, I could by some more wood to practice on.

To Wrap Up

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, the "Whittle" is not available at the time of this post. If you ever do miss out on something though, be sure to check back, because boxes usually return or there are similar items.
