What's Inside The Box
NOVICA took me on a trip to India this quarter. Let's see what was inside my box!
The Unboxing Process
As always, NOVICA does a wonderful job carefully packaging its artisan items. Every item is individually wrapped in several layers and contained inside a larger, more secure box.
Artisan Guidebook & Postcard
The Artisan Guidebook introduced me to the artisan Fida Hussain from the valley of Srinagar, Kashmir. He and his family own a workshop specializing in papier maché and intricate figurative sculptures. Fida shared that the natural beauty of his land (displayed on the postcard) inspires most of his work and the designs he incorporates have been passed down throughout the ages. He and his family are driven to preserve the culture and traditions of Kashmir through their craft and collaboration with other local artisans.
Pair of Handcrafted Copper and Brass Mugs from India, "Tavern Style" by Kamal (Retail Value: $67.99) + Bonus Item
If there's one thing I can't live without - it's mugs. Just ask my husband! I love that these are lightweight and appreciate the modern-looking hammered finish and shaped brass handles. While I could certainly keep them out on display in the kitchen, I think I'll use them as my go-to mugs for shaken espressos or iced tea. Or perhaps a spiked cider for the season?
Bonus Item: I also received a set of two beaded coasters for the mugs! I wasn't provided with an artisan card for them and couldn't find their online listing either. However, I believe the artisan is most likely Arti Sharma since their style is incredibly similar to her "Ivory Majesty" coasters.
Steel Tealight Candle Holders in Midnight Hues (Pair), "Holiday Trees"
by Kamal (Retail Value: $19.99)
These round tealight holders are simple, yet perfect for the holiday season. I'll put them out on display on my dining room table and keep them lit as I work throughout the late evening. They'll also serve as a gentle reminder that Christmas is just around the corner and I seriously need to get to work decorating our home.
Side note - Does anyone else love writing or working in a dimly lit setting during the quiet of the night? I've learned to savor this setting during this hectic season of life.
4 Artisan Crafted Papier Mache Ornaments Flower Hearts Set, "Season of Love" by Riyas (Retail Value: $23.99)
As I mentioned above, it's time for me to start decorating for Christmas, and these papier-mache heart ornaments will provide an elegant touch to our (future) tree. They each sport hand-painted floral designs and a glossy finish. I plan to place them towards the top of our tree, far away from my wild cats and children (who I believe are equally destructive).
Cotton Tie-Dyed Cushion Covers (Pair), "Spring Sky" by Sandeep Malhotra
(Retail Value: $39.99)
I was in serious need of cushion covers as my toddler leaves her artistic mark on most of my furniture (cue the literal seconds I don't have my eyes on her while I attempt to cook or clean). Blue and green are my favorite colors so I'm all about their design. Now I have an excuse to get some mid-size pillows for our bedroom.
Hand-Painted Floral Soapstone Elephant Figurine from India, "Good Fortune" by Sanjay Garg (Retail Value: $39.95)
Something I appreciate about NOVICA is that they always introduce me to at least one item per quarter that I wouldn't expect to love at first glance. This gorgeous soapstone elephant was that very item for this box. While I wouldn't normally buy an item like this, I value what it stands for - good fortune and wisdom.
Is this a sign that GME will finally go to the moon in the near future? I sure hope so!
Value
The retail value of these 5 items is $191.91 (not including the bonus item). Considering that you only pay $59.99 per box, this is an insane deal. And, of course, the value that I got from having someone curate household items for me is priceless.
The Verdict
Once again, I loved every artisan item I received and can't wait to use them throughout my home. My favorite item this quarter was the set of handcrafted copper and brass mugs. My husband and I have used them several times already, adding iced coffee to them in the mornings and craft beers every Wednesday while we watch All Elite Wrestling.
Until next time!
