Hygge Box is a monthly subscription box that embraces the Danish concept of hygge, or a lifestyle of coziness and happiness. (The pronunciation is hoo-gah.) It is about preserving happiness everyday by slowing down, being humble, expressing gratitude, feeling safe, and connecting with loved ones. From this box you can expect a selection of 5-6 handpicked items from around the world that promote this gentle, feel-good sentiment.
Note! As of October 2024, The Hygge Box has merged their Standard and Deluxe subscription tiers, so that only the Deluxe is available. This ensures even more value and a curated experience with every delivery.
The Cost: $52 per month with annual subscription. Monthly, 3-month, and 6-month subscriptions also available.
This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)
Opening the Box
The Hygge Box arrives in a peach box with sweet illustrations on it. Information about the subscription is printed under the box lid, and the month's curation is packed carefully in a sticker-punctuated wrapping of tissue paper. I spy some delightful wintry goods that could serve the purpose of holiday preparation, too.
This month's info card offers the Stay Cozy theme, with beautiful words to guide our attention toward the "quiet beauty in the turning of time, a season of retreat and renewal." Honestly, the hygge concept—and a warm coat—are what will get us all through winter. I love this reminder.
What's Inside the November 2024 Hygge Box
Paper Honeycomb Tree — Retail Value $6.91
First we have this beautiful paper honeycomb tree—the sturdiest I've seen. It's made with quality cardstock, stands evenly, and has magnets that hold it open firmly. Then when it's time to put it away for the season (though it would be beautiful all year), it can store flat with no damage done. Glorious! This type of decoration is somehow both retro and timeless. They've also sent a strand of fairy lights along to make it more festive.
I'm going to use this sweet tree as a Christmas decoration, and I'm not quite ready to put it all up yet—but when the time comes I'll sit and finagle the lights to perhaps tuck them into the folds and make them twinkle without so much wire showing. I'm excited! I love when subscriptions anticipate a holiday, and treat us to something special for it early enough that we can enjoy it for the whole season.
Now Designs Stoneware Soup Bowl in White - Retail Value $14.99
This stoneware piece is the perfect cross between a mug and a bowl. It invites hand-hugging and cozy warmth. It was sent our way alongside a soup mix and a quilted bowl cozy, which is such a sweet "for one" lunch setup. I often eat lunch alone while my family is off at work and school, so using this bowl will be a wonderful reminder to relish the season as I nourish myself.
The Secret Garden Cream of wild Rice Soup - Buy 6 for $44.95
Have you ever made soup from a mix? Over the years I've bought various soup mixes from church ladies, and always been pleasantly surprised by the result. Typically you'll need to provide some of your own ingredients, and in this case it calls for 1/2 to 1 cup of milk, cream, or a substitute. It also recommends adding cooked, cubed chicken and a dash of sherry. (You can usually find cooking sherry in the vinegar section of the grocery store.) Directions are provided for making it in a pot on the stovetop or in a crockpot. This will be such a great easy meal this season!
Now Designs Bowl Cozy - Retail Value $11.99
I knew bowl cozies existed but I've never owned one until now, and I'm so into it. It's quite like a curved potholder, and it's microwaveable, so you could put your meal in the microwave with this cozy in place under it, and avoid burning your hands taking it out. I'm constantly using my sleeves to protect my hands from hot microwaved bowls—this is a definite improvement.
All that's needed to complete this snuggly situation is soup!
Big Heart Teas Cozy Night Chamomile Tea for Two - Retail Value $3.50
Chamomile tea: a symbol of relaxation and wellness. It was my go-to herbal tea for an evening cup for years, until I realized it actually does nothing for me and I would rather drink decaffeinated black tea for the richer flavor. But, when my 3-year-old daughter showed interest in these tea sachets I thought, how cute, why don't we enjoy a cup together. And I was blown away! This take on chamomile has hints of organic spearmint and organic lemongrass in it, which elevates the organic chamomile from being too mellow.
Plus, how amazing are those tags? After about 3-4 minutes of steeping, the color remained honeyed, but the flavor was full.
Verdict
There are so many ways a cozy theme could go, and I love the one this November Hygge Box took. Following the Hygge Box syllabus of an element of light, a hot drink, something to eat, and home decor (or accessories or wellness items), we were sent the flavors and experiences of a nestled-in entry into winter weather. As always, by way of items that are thoughtful and unimposing.
To Wrap Up
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Maybe! If you order by the last day of the month, your first box will be the next box, and your order will ship between the 15th-18th of the following month (unless sold out). Subsequent monthly boxes will also ship between the 15th and 18th.
Value Breakdown: We were sent 5 items this month, adding up to a total retail value of $44.88 (using a prorated cost for the soup mix). This breaks down to $10.14 per item. It doesn't quite break even with the cost of the box, but we're just a month into a transition for this subscription from 2 tiers down to 1, so I still count this as a grace period—it's not their norm.
