Stitch Fix Women’s Fashion Review October 2024

Becca Peterson
ByBecca PetersonNov 4, 2024 | 8 comments

Like a lot of you other gals out there, I am busy. With basketball, work, and school taking up all my time, I barely have a chance to shop. The nearest mall is 45 miles away, and the stores seem to cater either to teenagers or grandmothers, neither of which suits me or fits right! Plus, the in-store prices are outrageous! Because of this, my passion for shopping has quite literally died, and I am in need of some style help. Could Stitch Fix be the answer?!

Although I'm no stranger to fashion styling boxes, this was only my second experience with Stitch Fix. After a fantastic first "Fix" (those red pants from last month were 🔥), I feel confident about how this service operates. The fact that new styles are added to the app daily allows me to ❤️ items, which helps my stylist understand my fit preference. Dressing an athletic body with a pouch tummy is not an easy feat! I've also noticed that the brands included in this subscription are top-notch. I opted for the mid-price range and am thoroughly impressed with the quality, fabrics, and designs! Plus, who wouldn't want to try on personalized pieces in front of their own mirror, accessorized just the way they like?

My first "Fix" was a total success, but can they deliver another home run this month? I was thrilled to find out that my stylist is also from the Midwest, has two sons, and took the time to review my feedback from last month. I immediately knew she would be my styling bestie! Read on to see how my stylist performed and whether she could help rebuild my wardrobe with pieces that flatter my figure.

Stitch Fix is an online personal styling service and one of the most popular women's fashion subscriptions. You tell them all about your style and size preferences through their very specific style quiz, and then they send you a package of carefully selected stylish goodies to try on at home. The styling fee is $20 a month for your stylist, but that fee goes towards any items you choose to keep as a discount.

My Subscription Addiction received a credit for this box. (Check out the editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

This month was a little different than last month, and that is because I received a "Super Fix." This contained more than double the amount of items as a regular fix, and arrived in a larger box. The box arrived in perfect condition and was dropped off right at my door. From the moment it left the warehouse, I have been receiving updates in regards to the status of this package, so I knew exactly when it would arrive. (I seriously couldn't wait!)

Each shipment contains a personalized letter from your stylist along with an invoice. This document lists everything included in your box along with the size, color, and cost. All items are then totaled up, and you are given two different prices - one reflects the 25% "Buy All" discount, and the other does not. Also included are check out instructions, app information, and online outfit cards. If by chance you are not satisfied with your items or need to do an exchange, you also receive two prepaid shipping bags which can be placed in the mailbox and sent off.

Style Preferences

Although the style quiz was mentioned earlier, here's additional information about how items are chosen for your Fix. When you set up your account, you'll answer a series of questions that cover not only your clothing sizes but also your preferences for how frequently you want to receive items, as well as your style and pricing preferences. You can also include a profile note to specify your likes and dislikes. I have a small butt, large waist, mama belly, and extra long arms, so I was sure to mention these features in my profile to receive items that flatter these qualities. And to fine-tune your style, there's an option to rate outfits with a thumbs up or thumbs down, which helps build your "StyleFile." This quiz takes just a few minutes, but it effectively captures various aspects of your style to find items tailored just for you. Are there any other "Boho Rebels" out there?

While you can easily order from the Stitch Fix website, I highly recommend downloading the app. It’s very user-friendly and provides a variety of outfit ideas for the items in your Fix. Additionally, the "Freestyle" tab features "Buy Now" options! I discovered that if you ❤️ items in this section, you might receive them or similar ones in your Fix. The app also offers various styling suggestions for your items, making it easy to create multiple trendy looks. Plus, you can directly purchase other items that are styled with your picks right from their site. Honestly, since using, I find myself spending more time browsing on here than I do on social media, which could definitely be considered a win!

What’s Inside

DV8- Jonah Stretch Bootie – Retail Value $89.00

Size: 10 | Color: Olive

With almost all of the leaves finally off of the trees, I have been looking to update my wardrobe with some fall-friendly pieces. For my first Fix, I asked no shoes be included, but after scrolling through the app, I really wanted to try a pair of booties. My wonderful stylist, Cheri, got the hint and sent this ultra cute pair of faux suede, block heeled boots. Created from olive green fabric, these 3" heels feature a zippered back and stretchy upper piece. With cute tassel zipper pulls, these are sophisticated enough for a 36- year-old, but still have a fun edge to them. The design and workmanship are done really well, and by just looking at them, I can tell they are high quality and will last me a long time.

There's no denying it, I have big feet. Wearing a size 10 has some challenges, and one of them is finding shoes that fit comfortably without looking gigantic. I do prefer a heel as it makes the shoe look smaller, and find the rounded toe to also help create a more flattering look and fit. The earthy color of these booties had me swooning from the second I laid eyes on them and I literally prayed they would work. Lo and behold, they fit like a dream! After deciding they were staying, I took them for a longer test drive outside, and found no gaping, pinching, or pain when wearing! As a person who tends to develop blisters from shoes quickly, these passed the test and will be perfect for all the fall and winter outfits! (For more photos paired with outfits, keep reading!)

41 Hawthorn - Natalie Knit Blazer – Retail Value $98.00

Size: L | Color: Dark Green

Working in education, I tend to mix up my outfits depending on how I feel that day and what my day might look like. On Tuesdays I have data team meetings, so I tend to dress up more than Fridays, when I have multiple lunch groups. Because I have a fair amount of casual clothes, I had quite a few blazers liked on the Freestyle portion of the Stitch Fix app. While I didn't have this exact blazer earmarked, I discovered I actually like it better than the ones I had on my list! Gorgeous in color, this looks a little more teal in real life than the dark green in photos. Made of 71% polyester, 28% rayon, and 1% spandex, this blazer is machine washable, and has a slight amount of stretch. Like I mentioned above, I have extra long arms, so appreciate a cropped style to avoid sleeves looking too short. I also have broad shoulders, so I typically need a little stretch in designs like this to stay comfortable. I appreciate the openness of the front of this blazer and find it adds a womanly silhouette to my wide-waisted figure. The knit fabric adds dimensional detail and the striped cuffs are just plain fun. After trying it on the first time, I knew this blazer was 100% a keeper!

While my StyleFile classified me as a "Boho Rebel," I find my style varying each day depending on my mood. When I want to play professional, I would pair this blazer with the One5One Ensley High Rise slacks that I also received (below), but would also totally rock this with jeans or a skirt. I honestly didn't think I would use the "Ways To Wear It, Just For You" portion of the Stitch Fix app, but have found it extremely helpful when curating looks that aren't just matchy-matchy, but fun and on trend!

One5One - Ensley high Rise Long Inseam Ponte Bootcut Trouser – Retail Value $49.00

Size: 10 | Color: Black

In my day-to-day work as an educator, we are supposed to dress in business casual attire, with the option of jeans on Friday. While I love to wear skirts and dresses, black pants are definitely the easiest to run around in and are the most versatile when it comes to styling. I have probably tried out 30 brands of black slacks and haven't found ones that I absolutely love. Because of my tummy insecurity, I like a high waist pant that fits athletic thighs and a small butt, all while being long enough. Does this even exist?! I was beginning to think not, until I tried these Ensley pants on! Made from 68% rayon, 27% nylon, and 5% spandex, these black pants have a slight stretch and fit absolutely perfectly! With a longer inseam, these don't look like capris after one wash, and are not only comfortable, but flattering too! All of the stitching is done perfectly and the quality of these pants is second to none. While pretty basic in style, these seriously are my new favorite black pants of all time!

The fit of these black slacks is spot on for me. As you can see, my figure is pretty straight up and down with a flat butt. These proportions make it extremely difficult to find flattering pants, especially because coupled with that, I have somewhat long legs. Typically my black pants start out at an okay length but shrink up after one wash. This version is machine washable and looks and feels the same after a wash as they did brand new out of the box, and for that I am forever grateful!

Kut From The Kloth - Natalie Bootcut Jean – Retail Value $88.00

Size: 10 | Color: Indigo

As a millennial, skinny jeans have been where it's at for me for the last 10 years. Not necessarily because I love that look, but because they are typically ones that fit the best in waist, butt, and length. I've been trying to dip my toes back into the bootcut waters, but have had pretty poor luck finding things to fit my proportions without a belt. Well, Cheri again has performed magic and found the best fitting jeans I've ever tried on! Made of 93% cotton, 5% polyester, and 2% spandex, these dark indigo wash jeans feature the perfect amount of stretch to be flattering, yet hold my tummy in place without sliding down my bottom. The gold stitching is small, even, and contrasts nicely with the dark wash. I am obsessed with these jeans!

I tend to lean towards dark wash jeans as they seem to be more slimming, so this wash was perfect for my preferences. With a stretchy waist, these fit my tummy and butt just the way I like. Though the photo got cut off, the length of these jeans is perfect, as they hit the top of my flat shoes, yet don't shrink up when wearing heels. I give these jeans a 10/10!

Love Ellie - Olla Herringbone Knit Cardigan – Retail Value $49.00

Size: L | Color: Olive

Earthy tones are definitely my go-tos when it comes to fashion, so I had a feeling I was going to like this cardigan. With snowflakes threatening to fly, I have been struggling to find layers that aren't too bulky, yet keep me cozy and comfortable. This olive colored cardigan definitely lives up to my expectations! Ultra soft in fabric, this open front cardigan features the prettiest herringbone knit detailing and has two front pockets. I found the sleeve length to be perfect, and I love the versatile styling options I found on the app! A bit more basic than some pieces, this was exactly what I needed to add to my fall wardrobe!

I am all about layered looks, so tossing this cardigan over a white tank with jeans was my definite go-to. I did however, also love the idea of pairing it with black slacks and a black tee with a scarf for a more dressed up look. The fit of this cardigan was excellent and gave me the coverage I look for without making me feel frumpy.

Kut From The Kloth - Julia Cropped Jacket – Retail Value $109.00

Size: L | Color: Blue

If you are familiar with any of my other reviews, you probably know my most coveted item of clothing is a jean jacket I bought when I was in 8th grade. This jean jacket has stood the test of time, but is now starting to fall apart. I have worn the thing so much I have literally rubbed holes through the elbows! While I have tried multiple versions to replace said artifact, nothing fits quite right - until now. This Kut From The Kloth jacket is over $100, BUT the quality, fit, and design is worth it. Made from 93% cotton, 6% polyester, and 1% spandex, this jacket is sturdy but has a small amount of stretch to it, making it easy to wear and comfortable. The arm length is perfect, but looks great with rolled up sleeves, and the length is spot on. Knowing the amount that I am going to wear this item made it a steal, and I just had to have this in my clothing arsenal.

Great for layering over dresses, or paired with colored jeans, I am absolutely obsessed with this jean jacket. The medium wash is so versatile and I love the fitted look it gives to keep from looking extra bulky. Way to go Cheri - you have made some absolutely fantastic picks for me!

Prosperity - Glenda Bootcut Jean (Currently sold out of burgundy, but available in brown) – Retail Value $78.00

Size: 10 | Color: Burgundy

Colored jeans just do something for me, and this burgundy pair was actually one that I had marked in Freestyle. Made from 94% cotton, 4% polyester, and 2% spandex, the fit again was spot on. A bit stretchy, yet slimming through the thighs and tummy, they made me feel really good! The small details of the larger cuff on the bottom, and the stitch down the back of the pockets gave these a little extra flare, without being too outrageous. Not only did they fit my #1 areas of concern, but these actually have a 33" inseam, so I can finally bust out my heeled boots without looking like I'm wearing capris!

I know a lot of people don't like colored pants, but they can make outfits so much fun, especially when they fit as perfect as these do! Testing out the waters a bit, I paired them with a black tank for a polished look, and also with a sweater for a more casual cozy look. Love these!!!

Kaileigh - Pamela Knit Faux Wrap Dress – Retail Value $60.00

Size: L | Color: Black

Year round, I love to wear dresses, but never quite know how to layer them, besides with a jean jacket. This go around I had a few long-sleeved ones marked, so layering is only optional! Made from 95% polyester and 5% spandex, this dress is machine washable and sooooo cute! The small floral print is really flattering without being overwhelming, and the tiny pops of red, blue, and mustard in the flowers give the options to accessorize with some different colors. I appreciate the slightly ruffled bottom, the length of the sleeves, and the cute wrap bow off the side. Great for church, school, or out and about, this is a versatile piece that I'm really excited to now own!

At first I didn't know if this dress would look good on me because it is a little tighter than I'm used to, but I ended up loving it! The wrap hit the most flattering part of my waist, it hid my mama tummy, and the print was really cute and fun. Stylish on its own, it also really pairs nicely with oversized sweaters, the jean jacket, and a mid-length pea coat. Who knew I could have so much fun with one dress?!

Lucky Brand - Caliz Suede Flat – Retail Value $79.00

Size: 10 | Color: Green

Lucky Brand is definitely one of my favorite clothing brands of all time. I have multiple sweaters, tank tops, jeans, and shorts from this brand and know they sell quality items. As I was browsing the Freestyle portion of the Stitch Fix App, I came across this pair of flats and ❤️'d them immediately. While I usually like a heel to make my legs look longer, a comfy flat is easier to run around the school in. That being said, my sensitive heels find themselves with blisters in a lot of ill-fitting shoes. I had my fingers crossed that these shoes would work, and guess what?! They did! These beautiful olive green suede shoes fit my foot from heel to toe like Cinderella's slipper, and I was able to go the entire first day of wear without a single pain or blister! Basic in design, these are a pretty standard flat, but the stitching, insole, and detailed back make them perfect for daily wear. These were definitely worth the $!

Wednesdays are my day of running to various rooms in the school doing whole class teachings, so I need a comfy shoe. These suede flats are not only chic, but comfortable as well. Olive is a pretty versatile color and goes with black slacks as well as dresses and jeans, so the amount of wear I will get out of these is worth the cost. Love them!

Daniel Rainn - Embroidered Shoulder Sweater – Retail Value $78.00

Size: L | Color: Off-White

OMG! This was the first thing I spotted when I opened up October's Super Fix, and I literally squealed. If any of you know me, florals and embroidery are literally my life. This beautiful oatmeal crew sweater is 100% polyester and features the prettiest embroidered flowers and vines on each shoulder. Photos don't even do this sweater justice - in real life it is absolutely gorgeous! With long snuggly sleeves and a stretchy body, this has some stretch but doesn't look baggy and unkept. The only downside to this gem is that it is hand wash only, but knowing that allows me to take care while wearing it.

I could not wait to try this sweater on. I was literally praying that it would fit right because it was love at first sight. Fitting perfect, I put this in my keep pile before even looking at the rest of the box! I have to say Cheri, you absolutely nailed this fix!

Takeaways

This was my second experience with Stitch Fix but my first "Super Fix." I was fiercely hoping for some fall to winter transitional items that would be versatile, flattering, and fun, and they literally blew my mind! Unpacking this month's box, I was wowed not only by the fact that each and every piece seemed like it was made for my body type and style, but by the quality of everything. I texted my sister a photo of the items that were sent and she literally responded "The colors alone look right up your alley - are you sure you didn't pick everything yourself?" Honestly, my stylist did a better job than I could have done myself! Not only was this the most painless shopping experience - (I literally did nothing but "like" cute outfits on my phone), but the colors, sizing, and options were amazing!

In terms of styling choices, there are thousands of brands and styles available. I entered my preferences, but found playing on the app and "liking" items in the Freestyle Tab to be more worth my time than endlessly scrolling through Instagram. I feel this gave my stylist a good grasp on exactly what I like, and she really took her job very seriously, as I loved each and every item that was sent, which of course was a bonus because that means an extra 25% off!

Overall, I am extremely impressed. The quality, overall process ease, and actual items chosen for me were perfection! I also appreciate the "Outfit Ideas" section, and the fact that I can "like" the other items I haven't yet received, in hopes of getting them in a future fix, or by utilizing the "Buy Now" feature. I'm excited to get to know my stylist as well as utilize the notes option for specific events and wants. What a tremendous box!

I feel that your review was not trying to be misleading, but I feel like stating a credit was received was not as accurate as a credit in the amount equaling the value of the box, would be more accurate. While I feel all the clothes look great on you regardless of the cost, getting the box for free is obviously going to be more exciting than if you had paid the cost of $500ish. You do look great in these clothes however and I’m impressed with their styling.

Hey Rachel, thanks for commenting! I received a credit to utilize for the clothing that was enough to cover the entire box. It is stated at the beginning of the review that a credit was received, but could be easily missed. Sorry about that! Thanks!

I like the clothes and they look like your style. I’m curious about the cost though. Did you pay $580 for all the clothes? I don’t see where the post says if MSA was gifted the box or not.I think that should be transparent.
