The December 2024 Box
As a beauty enthusiast, I have been a subscriber to a slew of make-up boxes. But Medusa's Make-Up is still pretty new to me. When the opportunity to review this box arose, I jumped at the chance, and couldn't wait to see what it was all about. After my first box, I became obsessed - so what does December's box have in store?! Read below to find out!
Packaged in a pretty pink foil mailer, it was love at first sight! Adorned with sweet script and adorable make-up clip art, this subscription is already one of my faves! (And check out this cute clear bubble bag - I love these things for travel!!)
To start off the box, we received an info card that details the contents of the box, along with their retail values. This card is giving off fun Christmassy vibes, and I am sooo here for it!
dikalu Eyeshadow Palette - Retail Value $14
I am a sucker for a good eyeshadow palette, and I was thrilled to open up this one. With varying textures and finishes, this pink and mauve set goes well with my brown eyes. While not exactly Christmassy, I do appreciate the easy to wear tones and beautiful glitter! Buildable and long lasting, I was able to create an everyday look using these colors and enjoyed the versatility. While the colors are pretty, I do want to mention I had a hard time finding any ingredient lists for this palette. Because it isn't a Medusa's Makeup product, it's not on their website. While I couldn't find the exact product online, I did find similar ones for super cheap on Amazon and Shein, and that didn't help...
This is one swipe of the eyeshadow pan, and you can see it is pretty well-pigmented. With a heavy finger, or brush, you can really deepen these colors, creating a beautiful smokey eye. I am really a fan of these varying colors, and love the addition of a little glitter in my day-to-day, but I really wish I knew what kind of ingredients they use!
Medusa's Glitter Gel - Listed Value $9.00
OMG I asked for glitter, and the Medusa's Make-Up box delivered! As a teen and young adult, I wore a ton of glitter, and though I'm 36, I haven't given it up entirely, and use a little everyday just because it makes me happy. This light pink version is in a gel substance and is grabbed with a finger easily. It can be applied quite heavily, but I'm a little too old for that and prefer a more subtle look. I wasn't sure how well this color would coordinate with my winter outfits, but found the light pink looks more silver when worn. It does have some fall out, so you might leave a little fairy dust wherever you go, but that just makes it more fun, doesn't it?!
Here is a light swatch of the glitter. You can go really crazy with a heavy hand, and get a completely covered look, but I'll leave that to the younger generation. If glitter make-up isn't your jam, you can also rub it in your hands and apply to your hair, or accidentally cover your jeans as well. It's really quite versatile!
MKNK Waterproof Gel Eyeliner – Listed Value $14.00
Black eyeliner and I go way back, and while I have graduated from gel eyeliner to liquid, I will once and a while go back to my roots, especially if it's waterproof. This month I received a version I have not yet tried, and I was impressed. With a sharp tip, this went on smoothly and created a pretty sharp cat eye. I was also impressed with the staying power. It didn't smudge and the waterproof claim seemed true. While basic, I was happy to add this to my beauty arsenal.
Fine tipped, this eyeliner went on smoothly and stayed put. While not as crisp as a liquid liner, this is great for a smokey eye as it can be added to with a powdery shadow to create a really dark look.
Medusa's Lipstick in Devilish – Listed Value $14
Here's the nod to Christmas!! So far this box has featured a lot of pink items, and while I do have pink ornaments on one of my Christmas trees, I do love me some red. Here we have a Medusa's Makeup Lipstick in "Devilish." This color is absolutely fabulous and was my very favorite item in the box. Deep red with glitter, this lipstick is perfect for the holidays, and matches my red coat perfectly!! While the staying power isn't as strong as some lipsticks, this was great for my day-to-day wear, and upped my look instantly. ❤️
Check out how pretty this lipstick is!! Swatched, it has a slightly pinker look than in real life, but with a couple of applications, you have the prettiest ruby red lips you have ever seen! Holiday parties - here I come!
Elastic Satin Scrunchie – Listed Value $4
I wear my hair up a lot, and though I have pretty much given up on scrunchies, if they match my outfit, I will throw one in. This version is thinner than a lot of the other ones I own, and the satin fabric is so soft and pretty. Again, we are back to the pink hues, and while this isn't the color I typically wear in December, I appreciate the item as it will get worn with some of my pink outfits.
Glitter and Glow Liquid Eyeshadow – Listed Value $12
The last item I received was this ultra glittery liquid eyeshadow. I mentioned above that I still have a passion for glitter, so this liquid eyeshadow was enticing to me. Again in pink, this liquid eyeshadow has really pretty coloring, but is just more of a spring color to me than winter. This can be applied as a light sparkle, but with a heavy hand can produce a thick metallic pink sheen. It's beautiful and dries fast, without a lot of fall out. Overall, I'm impressed with the formula, but would have liked to see a gold, silver, or green color in tribute to the holiday season.
I applied this with a pretty light hand, and you can't really get the color payout in the photo like you get in real life. Really pretty in pigment, I like the formula, and can't help but smile when I see the flecks of glitter added to my daily look.
If you couldn't tell, I'm pretty obsessed with Christmas. Red is my favorite color and I decorate for Christmas November 1st and leave the decor up until February. That being said, I was very hopeful for some red and green hues this month. While I did receive the red lipstick (my new favorite in fact), we also received a lot of pink. Because pink is my second favorite color, I wasn't too shaken up, and appreciated all of the glitter. Here you can see a few photos of me trying out the new makeup. My eyeshadow is from the enclosed palette, with the eyeliner. Obviously I'm wearing the included lipstick, and while the photos don't show very well, I did dab on both the glitter gel and liquid glitter eyeshadow. Because I was just going to the grocery store, I didn't want to overdo it, but ended up loving it!
The Verdict
This month's curation of Medusa's Make-Up was really fun. I really enjoyed the eyeshadow palette, eyeliner, glitter gel, and lipstick. The colors might have been a little better suited for spring, but overall, I enjoyed all of this month's contents and am looking forward to the January box! To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? You'll likely receive the January box. Some past boxes are also available for a one-time purchase here.
Value Breakdown: I estimate I received $67.00 worth of items this month, which is more than three times the cost of the box! That's definitely a good value for $22.95!
