First Impressions
Since Walmart did their reboot a few seasons ago, their shipping has been top notch. For the past year, I have received the quarterly Walmart Beauty Box a couple of weeks BEFORE the turn of the season! I am all about timeliness, and I just couldn't wait to see what this season might bring. What was in store for this chilly start to winter? Read below to find out!
This quarter we received a pamphlet detailing the "It's Slay Season" beauty offers. With over 10 different options listed, you are guaranteed to receive at least six great finds. Being a mix of skin care, hair care, and make-up, the choices were rounded out quite well, but just what size items did they send?
e.l.f. Skin Suntouchable Invisible Sunscreen SPF 35 - Estimated Value $14.00
The first item listed on the content card and the first item I opened was this large container of sunscreen and primer. I know sunscreen is recommended to be worn all year long, but honestly I haven't been spending hardly any time outside as the Minnesota weather has been making it difficult. Anyways, I was a little bit disappointed to receive something I wasn't planning on really using, until I discovered it's other purpose being a face primer. With a gel formula, this sunscreen goes on colorless and non-greasy, all while being fragrance free, and rubs in literally like a primer. Because of how easy it is to use, I decided to try it out as a primer, and I have to say I love it! This product creates a subtle base on my skin that works extremely well with my foundation, and has upped my makeup game. Who knew an invisible sunscreen would not only protect my skin all year long, but make my makeup look better than ever as well!
Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Cream - Estimated Value $1.00
Like I mentioned above, the Minnesota weather has been quite chilly lately, and my skin is dddrrryyyyy. Growing up my parents and grandparents were big fans of Aveeno lotion, and will only use this brand. While it is a little more spendy than a lot of the competitors, this lotion is absolutely amazing. Created with oat butter, this moisturizer is proven to help skin and last 24 hours. Because it is unscented, fragrance free, free of parabens and dyes, and is dermatologist recommended, I prefer this brand over anything else. Their line includes many products such as bath wash, and even baby products. I highly suggest giving this lotion a dry if you are looking for something that actually works all while leaving your hands functional straight after application!
No. 7 Lift & Luminate - Estimated Value $2.00
The next item I received was a small tube of No7 Lift & Luminate Serum. While small in size, this serum works with Collagen Peptide Technology, a brightening complex with emblica and vitamin C, and pro-retinol. Slightly floral scented, I enjoyed this light serum and found it works well by itself and under makeup. Great for sensitive skin, I truly have noticed a difference in my skin since using about a week ago. Because I am 36, I have been trying out different brands of skin care products like this to keep some of my fine lines at bay, and was impressed with the quick results this had to offer.
COVERGIRL Outlast Lip stain - Estimated Value $8.98
December is definitely the season for lipstick, so I was intrigued when I found this stick of lip stain included in my box. I have never tried this type of lip coloring before and was excited to give it a whirl. I received the color "Jazzberry" and enjoyed the deep pinky red color for the December season. It applies like a marker which was initially weird, but allowed me to trace my lips with ease, and stayed on throughout the day. I was impressed with how light this product was on my lips, and found that did last all day long, even with the addition of lip gloss! I did notice that the stain will bleed into your skin if you over-trace your lips, but if you stay on course, I had no problem. Overall, it was an interesting product to use, and one I will be utilizing for our upcoming date night!
Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Shimmer Radiance Body Oil - Estimated Value $1.00
Body oil is something I have a plethora of, but don't use very often. While I enjoy applying it after baths, these foil packets really are messy and hard to use. Once finally opened, I did enjoy the shimmer of this oil and found it to be a great addition to my self-care Sunday, but would have definitely preferred this product if it had been contained in a tube.
Batiste Sweat Activated Dry Shampoo - Estimated Value $2.00
The last item I received is one that I misused on my first application. Hahaha! To be fair, it was early in the morning, and I hadn't had my coffee yet, but my eye was initially drawn to "Sweat Activated" and I applied this to my pits!!! Two seconds had passed and I realized Batiste is a dry shampoo brand that I have bought before, and that this was definitely not deodorant. Whoops. Anyways, though this doesn't work as a deodorant, 🤣 it does work really well as a dry shampoo and saved my hair from disaster when I woke up late the other day! Just be sure when using to make sure you really comb through your hair to avoid white patches and you will be good to go!
Verdict
Winter is (almost) here, and I am soooo excited for Christmas! I love giving gifts, but I like receiving them too! This season's winter Walmart Beauty Box was like an early Christmas present just for me! I'll be honest and say at first glance, I found this season's box to be a little lackluster, but after trying the sunscreen primer, serum, lip stain, and dry shampoo, I was really quite pleased. This month's items were very useful and included some really great brands. Overall, this month's box had a retail value of $28.98, which is more than 3 times the cost of the box, and had a great mix of haircare, skincare, and makeup. With this spot-on curation, I am excited to see what they will have up their sleeve for the spring quarter!
