BoxyCharm by Ipsy “A Clean Slate” Review – January 2025

Is BoxyCharm by Ipsy Starting 2025 with a Bang or a Bust?

New year, new me, new BOX! This month’s BoxyCharm by Ipsy theme, A Clean Slate, centers around back-to-basics but with a boujee twist. ✨ They’re serving minimalist makeup and skincare that looks luxe and feels even better. So, did they deliver? Let’s dive into the good, the bad, and the meh of this month’s picks.

BoxyCharm by Ipsy is a $30 monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. It always provides great value compared to the cost of the box and includes 5 beauty items, including nail care, skincare, makeup, haircare, fragrance, and more. (At least 4 of those items will be full-sized.) If you are a makeup or skincare addict, we recommend this box!

PS: My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

Can we take a moment to appreciate the simple product sheet this month? No fluff, just straight to the point with a handy QR code for extra deets. Love.

What’s Inside

Context Skin Lip Balm – Retail Value $20

Shade: Sweet ‘N Innocent

I have a weakness for anything that lives in the lip care aisle. At first glance, I had doubts about this one. It looks more like lipstick than lip balm, but don’t judge a balm by its bullet! The formula is smooth, creamy, and oh-so-balmy. It glides on like a dream, and while the super-shiny finish isn’t my usual vibe, I’ll admit it grew on me.

Repurchase Power? 80/100.

KOA Life Vitamin C Brightening Cleanser – Retail Value $40

Okay, let’s break this one down. The foam is velvety (seriously, it feels $$$), and the scent gives me spa-day vibes. Bonus points for not leaving my skin tight or dry like most foaming cleansers do. But $40 for a cleanser? That’s a little hard to swallow. And the fragrance… while it’s lovely during use, it lingers. Plus, the essential oil-heavy formula might make sensitive-skin beauties cringe.

Repurchase Power? 20/100. Might keep it as a bougie body wash.

Wander Beauty In Neutral Eye Shadow Palette – Retail Value $42

This one had me hyped, and let me tell you, it delivered. Minimal fallout? Check. Gorgeous pigmentation? Check. Versatile shades for daytime or full-on glam? Triple check. The shimmer shades are especially stunning. And for a makeup newbie like me, the buildable formula makes these even more versatile.

Repurchase Power? 100/100. Neutral lovers, this is a must-have.

Verb Ghost Hair Mask – Retail Value $20

I am obsessed with Verb’s Ghost line (their hair oil is basically a personality trait at this point), so this mask already had a head start in my book. And yes, it’s just as amazing as I had hoped. Lightweight yet hydrating, it gives my fine hair major volume and shine without weighing it down. Pro tip: leave it on for 10-15 minutes for an extra luxurious hair day. Pair it with the Ghost oil for glass hair goals.

Repurchase Power: 100/100. My hair is thriving.

OFRA Cosmetic Blush Midi Palette – Retail Value $35

Shade: Blossom

This blush palette was… not it. The shades barely show up on my skin tone, the packaging feels cheap, and the whole vibe screams “kids’ makeup aisle” instead of luxury. I appreciate the idea of customizable tins, but if the shades don’t perform, what’s the point? My search for the perfect blush continues.

Repurchase Power: 0/100. Pass.

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $32

Total Retail Value: $157

Here’s the breakdown:

  • Context Lip Balm: $20
  • KOA Life Cleanser: $40
  • Wander Beauty Eye Shadow Palette: $42
  • Berg Hair Mask: $20
  • OFRA Cosmetics Blush Palette: $35

Takeaways

This box was a mixed bag. While the Verb mask and Wander palette were absolute stars, the blush palette was a total miss, and the cleanser… well, it’s complicated. That said, I appreciate the clean, fresh vibe they were going for, and I think they’re moving in the right direction for 2025. Let’s see if next month keeps the momentum going!

Other Things You Should Know

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Nope, but your first box will be just as fab, I’m sure!
