Silk + Sonder January 2025
Hello New Year! I am happy to welcome 2025 and take on another year! It's amazing to me how fast 2024 flew by, and I'm really going to try and focus on enjoying every single minute the Lord gives me this year. While we are ending December with more illness, I also have a really positive mindset, and am excited to see where life leads us next. With school starting back up in 2 days, the Silk + Sonder planner arrived before the chaos ensues, and helped prepare me for the upcoming month. January is a little less hectic than December, but already our schedule is filling up. Without this journal there to help me keep track of practices, games, and work, I think I would go crazy!
While Silk + Sonder is a journal, it is also a planner, stress reliever, focus improver, mood booster, and productivity increaser! Centering around a new theme each month, this book has it all, and aligns with my needs perfectly. With 60 pages of amazingness, I look forward to opening this journal each day, and have found it to help keep my anxiety under control.
I enjoy the fact that Silk + Sonder chooses themes for each month, but for January we aren't given the definition of the chosen word, but rather a welcome letter and yearly reflection page. Prosperity is this month's theme, and I am feeling it. This word is all about abundance in every form - love, health, opportunity, and financial success, which is everything I want in the New Year! And to start off this year with prosperity on my mind, I first had to reflect on 2024. What things did I achieve? What people did I meet? What places did I visit? What books did I read? Those are items I listed on page three and was able to see just what a great year it was, even if it seemed to fly by in a blur. Cheers to another year!
One of my favorite aspects of Silk + Sonder is receiving a new planner each month. Starting "fresh" has been really helpful, as yearly planners make me feel overwhelmed. While this does feature an entire year calendar, it is too small to start filling, but big enough to reference for the future. To start my month, I fill in my calendar with dates I already know, and watch the month fly by! This month is a little more slow than December, so for that I am thankful! Staying organized is a huge help in managing my anxiety, and being able to quickly reference this calendar at the front of this planner is exactly what I need to manage life without having a panic attack.
On page 6, we open up to a "Future Log." This includes two small calendars for the upcoming months. With just enough space to write small notes, I typically don't fill this calendar up too much, unless it's an appointment I need to remember. On the opposite side though, we received a "Wheel of Life" activity in which we rank 10 different areas of our life on how fulfilled we feel. Once complete, we add a way we can increase that level for each section. I was feeling pretty fulfilled in the Fun & Leisure, Family & Friends, and Home Environment section, but could use some work in my Career Area. It's fun to see how these numbers change throughout the months, and even sometimes throughout the day!
Page 8 offers a space to reflect on the previous month. With an area to write down your wins, challenges, and favorite moments, this is a great way to learn what works and what doesn't. This page is one of my favorites, as it shows all of the month's accomplishments. It also features an area to write things down that you want to start, stop, and continue. December was busy so there were many wins, and favorite moments. Thankfully, this month didn't bring a lot of challenges, but we were busy! This coming month I wrote down that I would like to start a low carb diet and stretch daily. I would like to stop whining so much, and I would like to continue to read daily. Looks like I have a busy January ahead!
I love the inclusion of the monthly intentions page. Here, you set intentions for yourself, and re-read them throughout the month. With six categories and six boxes to complete, there is plenty of room to jot things down. This isn't necessarily a to-do list, but a place to get yourself off to a good start and remind you of things that you would like to work on. My January intentions are typical of most months, but I did add "have a positive attitude" and "budgeting" to my list. We can do this!!
As I have mentioned above, this is more than just a planner, and these trackers are proof of that. Page 10 and 11 offer a mood tracker and habit tracker. We are given space to fill in what our typical moods are, and fill it out throughout the month. This is great for tracking patterns, especially for me and my anxiety. I love the fact that these are customizable to track exactly how you want in such a pretty way! Silk + Sonder typically ships a week and a half before the next month starts, so while I have created my "keys" for each of these trackers, I haven't yet started tracking. I have some goals to hit in 2025, and this fresh new start has been key to my motivation! May the month kick off in a good way!
Page 12 offers another tracker, this one being for sleep. I have no trouble in this department, so I usually skip it. The opposing page, however, is another one of my favorites. Page 13 offers a Gratitude Log with space for every day of January to fill with things I am grateful for. It's amazing how much a mindset can change for the better when you start your day off journaling what you are grateful for. I highly recommend it, even if you don't have this particular planner!
Because this month's theme was "Prosperity," we received four thoughtful prompts regarding this topic. I I was asked what area of life you currently feel prosperous in, why is prosperity important to you, how can you overcome obstacles that are holding you back from achieving prosperity, with finally a space to write out how you imagine a day in your prosperous life. While deep, these questions really get you in a thinking mindset as you go about your day. I have been really focusing on what areas I feel prosperous in and using them to help achieve that feeling in other areas of my life. So far it seems to be helping!
The next activity was on that was a new to me. This "Prosperity Bridge" looks a bit like a game board and has areas where you write down a goal and go through steps of how you can obtain it. This was really helpful in breaking down what's important and how to accomplish things. I also like the three actions I had to write for losing 15 pounds. I've already started incorporating them in my daily routine, and feel better already.
The opposing page offers a beautiful poem titled "What is Success?" This Ralph Waldo Emerson writing is fantastic. It has nothing to do with money, and everything to do with being a good person. I absolutely love it and have cut it out and placed it in my office at work as a daily reminder of what success truly is.
Page 18 and 19 offer two more fun activities: an adult coloring page, and a "Vision Board" page. I love the adult coloring page, but so far I haven't had time to take out the markers. The "Vision Board" was meant to be utilized to help me stay focused and motivated to reach any goal I can imagine. I will use this to draw pictures of things that remind me of this goal and how I will achieve it as I go throughout the month. I am excited to get started!
Every Silk + Sonder journal comes with a recipe, and though I typically don't try them, do appreciate the thought. This month's "Vanilla Chai Lemon Ricotta Muffins" recipe looked tasty but I need to hit up the grocery before I can test it out. Beautiful in looks, does this taste good? Let me know if you've tried it!
On the opposing page, we received a "Create Your Own Bingo" page. Here you add self-care activities to each box and try to get a bingo in January! I love this inclusion because sometimes self-care can feel selfish, but this reminds me just how important it is. Maybe this month I'll treat myself to a black-out! 🤣
Blank sheets are always helpful and a great place to do some long division, write notes, and jot down addresses!
Each month we are given some sort of mind puzzle, and this month it was a word search and riddle. I blew through the word search because they are my fave, but I couldn't figure out the riddle. Any guesses? The opposite side features an expense tracker, and while lovely, because I utilize a Google doc, don't fill this out. Again- use this journal how it works for you!
I love the fact that this journal always starts on a Monday, even if that means it starts the month prior. Here you can see Monday is the 30th of December, and I am ready to take on the week. This is the last week of winter break, and I have big plans. While we have stayed home a bit, I am trying to get extra organized as we head into the New Year, and I have all my meals and ingredients ready to go. As far as this journal as a whole goes, I tend to put most of my time into these calendar pages. With sections for meal plans, to-dos, habits and activities, shopping lists, and specific day sections, I write everything here. It keeps me on schedule for each day and feeling accomplished, and there is NOTHING more satisfying than crossing out an item on my list. I also appreciate the extras these sheets have - while I sometimes don't fill out how I want to feel each week, this week I found it helpful to write it down and pray over it. This journal is just so darn helpful!!
Tidying up with one last quote, the dictionary definition of "Sonder," and the back cover, that's all there is to it. I have come to find that a key part of my day is when I sit and fill out my planner with my cup of coffee. This quiet time happens before the kids are awake, and kicks my day off to a good start before I start my school day. It is extremely important for me to keep a consistent schedule for managing my anxiety and creating much more positive life, and this journal definitely is a big help in that.
The Verdict
After a wild December, I am ready for a slower pace for January. Before kids, the short winter days seemed to cold and long, but with basketball and activities, life seems to just speed by. To keep track of our lives, Silk + Sonder has become a necessity and without this planner, I'd definitely be lost (as would my husband!) I continue to be impressed with this subscription, and can't wait to see what's in store for February.
I typically tend to allocate about 15-20 minutes a day to this journal and flip from front to back reflecting, adding to, and processing what I have previously written. By the end of the month, my brain feels much more organized and stable. The beauty of this planner is remarkable, and the packable size means I can tote it around in my purse. Being extremely impressed with all aspects, I am really looking forward to discovering more about myself, all while staying organized and offering myself a little daily quiet time and important self-care.
