Boxycharm by Ipsy “Main Character Energy” Review: March 2025

March 2025 BoxyCharm by Ipsy: Hit or Miss?

This month’s BoxyCharm by Ipsy arrived with the promise of turning everyday moments into something cinematic—flushed cheeks, luminous skin, and effortless radiance. But did it deliver? Let’s dive into the details.

BoxyCharm by Ipsy is a $30 monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. It always provides great value compared to the cost of the box and includes 5 beauty items, including nail care, skincare, makeup, haircare, fragrance, and more. (At least 4 of those items will be full-sized.) If you are a makeup or skincare addict, we recommend this box!

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Options

Here's what you could pick for this month's box.

First Impressions

The packaging threw me off at first—a larger-than-usual box, typically reserved for Icon Box. A pleasant surprise, sure, but size doesn’t always equal substance. That said, everything arrived in perfect condition, and I was eager to explore the curation.

What’s Inside:

Saturday Skin Yuzu Vitamin C Sleep Mask (50 ml) – Retail Value: $29

A sleep mask should be the final step in a nighttime ritual, wrapping skin in hydration while you dream. This one, with its bright citrus fragments, felt a bit gimmicky. While the formula itself was pleasant—thick but not suffocating—the yuzu bits ended up scattered across my pillow. Not exactly the skincare indulgence I envisioned. If I use it, I’ll be applying it a few hours before bed rather than overnight.

Would I repurchase this? Unlikely.

Formula Z Lightbulb Swirl Liquid Illuminator (15 ml) – Retail Value: $25

Shade: Major Vibes

Illuminators should melt into the skin, lending that "it from within" glow. This one? It’s more of a spotlight. The formula is thick, intensely reflective, and requires a serious blending technique to avoid looking like a mirror. I see potential for it as an eyeshadow, but as an all-over glow product, it’s not exactly seamless.

Would I repurchase this? Nope.

Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF40 (1.7 oz) – Retail Value: $38

This sunscreen has a cult following. I, however, am not a member. The silicone-heavy formula promises a weightless, matte finish, but for my skin, it’s a recipe for breakouts. It also has that telltale slippery texture that makes makeup slide rather than stay put. If you love a primer-like sunscreen, you might adore it. Me? I’ll be passing this along to a friend.

Would I repurchase this? Absolutely not.

Laura Geller Laura’s Essential Candy Cravings Palette (17.9 g) – Retail Value: $25

Eyeshadow palettes often feel like a gamble—too many filler shades, not enough usable colors. This one, however, is a breath of fresh air. The neutrals are wearable, but the real stars are the metallics. That lilac shade? It’s giving White Lotus glamour without the glitter fallout. And for $25, getting ten eyeshadows, a blush, and a highlighter is a steal.

Would I repurchase this? Yes.

Eleman Beauty Lip Scrub (10 g) – Retail Value: $18

Lip scrubs should be a sensorial treat—softening, smoothing, and lightly exfoliating. This one? A mess. The sugar granules are too large, making the scrub feel more like sandpaper than a gentle polish. The balm base also hardens in cooler temperatures, making it nearly impossible to squeeze out of the tube. A frustrating experience from start to finish.

Would I repurchase this? No.

Dr. Brandt Skincare Hydrating Serum-to-Highlighter (30 ml) – Retail Value: $65

A hybrid serum-highlighter should give the skin a natural, dewy radiance. Instead, this one felt separated, dispensing either a chunk of shimmer or a watery serum. It also didn’t layer well under foundation, making it difficult to justify its place in my routine. For $65, I expected something seamless, not something finicky.

Would I repurchase this? No.

Final Thoughts

This month’s box left me underwhelmed. Aside from the eyeshadow palette, the selection felt uninspired—another highlighter, another sunscreen, another lip scrub that doesn’t quite deliver. Beauty subscription boxes should introduce us to exciting, innovative products, but this one felt like a rerun. Here’s hoping next month brings the spark back.

Yes, why is it so hard to give accurate info? Boxycharm is 5 full sized items. Not 6. This box must include the beauty boost, and it’s not $30. Pretty sure this has been explained before, and it’s not the readers’ job to explain to MSA what is being reviewed.
I do appreciate the honest feedback about the items in this review though.
