First Impressions is a series that (re)introduces and reviews new brands to My Subscription Addiction, drawing from readers' requests for an insider's first look. Interested in seeing more reviews from this brand, or have another box in mind that you'd like to see reviewed? Let us know in the comments.

The Fresh Cut Flower of the Month Club delivers a seasonal floral arrangement paired with an informative newsletter and floral food each month. Unlike standard flower delivery clubs that ship multiple identical blooms, this club specializes in professionally arranged bouquets that include several varieties and greens.

The Fresh Cut Flower of the Month Club receives their flowers one day after they're cut, packs them the same day, and then ships them via Next Day Express Service in an insulated box. Each stem is cut before the bud blooms and will begin blooming two to three days after you receive them.

The accompanying newsletter in each box shares information on each featured species including its origin and how it's grown. You'll also receive arrangement tips and suggestions on how to best extend the life of each bouquet.

With MonthlyClubs you can either subscribe to its Flower of the Month club separately or combine it with any of their other gourmet services. Their other clubs include Microbrewed Beers, International Wines, Gourmet Chocolates, Farmhouse Cheeses, and Hand-Rolled Cigars.

What's Inside The Box

My first box from The Fresh Cut Flower of the Month Club contained a gorgeous arrangement of tropical essences to help keep my spirits warm during Winter. Despite living in central Florida, we've experienced some pretty brisk weather recently compared to past years, so the sentiment was very much appreciated.

This arrangement contained the following warm-weathered selections:

  • Red and Pink Hawaiian Anthuriums
  • Costa Rican Red Torch Parakeet Heliconias
  • Song of India
  • Tri-Color Hala Leaves
  • Black Ti Leaves

My favorite selection for this arrangement was the red and pink Anthuriums. Despite not being native to Hawaii, the Anthurium andreanum is considered by many to be "the heart of Hawaii." It was introduced to the islands back in 1889 by Samuel Mills Damon, the minister of finance for the Republic of Hawaii (according to Marie Neal).

Its true origins include the Andes in southern Colombia and northern Ecuador where it grows as an epiphyte—meaning it grows on the body of another plant or on rocks. Their petal-like bracts are typically red, pink, white, or green and appear to be shaped like a heart. After being cut they last for up to three weeks which is quite impressive. Mine lasted for a little over two weeks and sat beautifully in my kitchen window vase.

I also really enjoyed the Heliconia. The Heliconia's bracts often appear orange, pink, and yellow and are known for their beak-like shape, also referred to as "lobster claw" or "parrot flower." This version, the Red Torch Parakeet Heliconia, resembles Birds of Paradise quite closely aside from having a bulky perch. 98 percent of Heliconias are native to the tropical Americas.

Finally, the remaining pieces accented the main ones well. They provided a backdrop that helped the vibrant colors of the Anthuriums and the Heliconia to "pop" while still contributing to a tropical essence.

The Verdict

As always, MonthlyClubs went above and beyond! After being blown away by their monthly wine club, I just knew their Fresh Cut Flower of the Month Club would do the same. I enjoyed the bulk of this arrangement for over a week, and the Anthuriums ended up lasting for over two weeks. This fresh arrangement brought me some comfort during the cold and kept me cheerful.
