What I’m Wearing This Week: Armoire

Hoppy Friday! I finally got the results of my bloodwork, and they showed high ANA numbers, which signaled an autoimmune disease. Of course, I immediately consulted my dear friends ChatGPT and Google and uncovered the worst possible scenarios: Lupus, Sjogren's Syndrome, and even Stiff Person Syndrome (like Celine Dion).

My doctor referred me to a rheumatologist, but I couldn't get an appointment until May 13th. Great, I have six more weeks to diagnose myself with every possible disease in the medical books. Then, the office called me with a very last-minute opening, so I jumped on it. I swear, I could feel myself falling apart inside.

I arrived at the rheumatologist's office at 7:30 a.m. and anxiously awaited bad news. I met with the PA beforehand, who asked about all my symptoms and genetic predispositions. Once the doctor arrived, I could feel myself turn bright red. Well, hello, Dr. Dreamy. He was gorgeous (and married). Sigh.

He explained that my bloodwork results were false positive and I did not have an autoimmune disease. Wait, what? This couldn't be done over the phone? Why did I have to sit around freaking out for about 6 weeks only to find out I have a histamine intolerance?

I took a deep breath, thanked him and went to the office. I'm thrilled about the good news, but why did I need to come in just to be told I'm healthy? Sometimes I wonder about the medical profession.

WHAT I’M WEARING THIS WEEK: Armoire

Welcome back to What I'm Wearing This Week: Armoire. For the newbies, every Friday on WIWTW I'll recap the clothing rentals I wore for the week. I’ll take you on a trip through my life, where I’m going, what’s missing in my closet, my current obsessions, what I’m excited to try, and maybe even buy. We’ll explore designers and trends, and a variety of styles and brands. And each week I’ll fill you in on why I chose each item, the total value of the rental compared to the retail price.

Armoire, which is a clothing rental company for women, is all about female empowerment. From the hand-selected and curated inventory of styles that are designed by the Boss Lady, for the Boss Lady, to their involvement with female-powered brands, and their partnership with Dress for Success Seattle, they’re a brand built for today’s woman.

WHAT I RECEIVED

All three items by AFRM, Tuckernuck and Badgley Mischka arrived fresh from the dry cleaner, neatly folded, and sealed in a shipping bag.

AFRM Kaylee Polka Dot Mesh Top, Retail Value $38, Armoire $28

Why I rented it: I need another top!

How I styled it: I wore this top with a black cami, Veronica Beard jeans, Kat Maconie ankle boots, Hermes Clic-Clac bracelet, a Gucci studded leather jacket, and the Balenciaga Graffiti bag.

Size and fit: I got a medium, and it fit perfectly. Crafted in sheer mesh with a polka dot print, this lightweight top features a crew neckline, long sleeves with thumbholes, and a raw-edge hem.

Condition: Brand new with tags.

Honest review: I considered buying this one, too, but my brother told me I looked like our mom dressed up for church, so I sent it back. Also, I don't need anything else with "dumb-holes".

Tuckernuck Sea Grove Pierce Shift Dress, Retail Value $385, Armoire $119

About the designer: Hi, we’re Tuckernuck. We're a company started by family and friends who love color, stripes, bucket lists, and nostalgia. Maddy and September are old college pals. Jocelyn is Maddy's older sister.

Back in 2012, we couldn’t find curated boutiques we loved close to home—you know, those special shops you discover when traveling and tell your friends about. So we created Tuckernuck, a shopping destination that’s easy, exciting, and full of the best brands with cool stories.

We want to make shopping fun and easy, and for you to feel effortlessly cool, confident, and ready for wherever life takes you. The magic is in the mix of our curation—we search, sift, design, and refine, letting you discover the best products and lifestyle inspiration.

Why I rented it: It's a timeless design perfect for St. Patrick's Day!

How I styled it: I paired this dress with black tights, AGL d'Orsay pumps, Yves Salomon Shearling jacket, and the Valentino Rockstud Tote.

Size and fit: I got a medium, and while it fit, the design was a bit boxy and oversized. This swingy shift dress features a round neck, long sleeves, back zip closure, and flounced hem with green ric-rac trim.

Condition: Great!

Honest review: Charming and sweet, but also really short on me. I probably shouldn't have worn it to the office, even with a thick pair of tights!

Badgley Mischka Floral-Print Balloon Sleeve Dress, Retail Value $180, Armoire $119

Why I rented it: It's perfect for spring!

How I styled it: I wore this springy frock with nude-hued nylons, a Vince leather jacket, Karl Lagerfeld pumps, and a Devi Kroell snakeskin clutch.

Size and fit: I got a 6 and this beauty fit just like a 6 (although slightly tight around the neck). This floral funnel-neck dress is soft and flowing with a chic funnel neckline, long bishop illusion sleeves, a back keyhole closure, belted waist, and gathered skirt.

Condition: Brand new without tags.

Honest review: Fun, frilly, and fabulous!

DID THEY DELIVER?

  • What items were most helpful and versatile to own this week to ensure I got the most out of my rental and completed the look I craved? I wore that Tuckernuck dress like 5 times and really loved it. I also got a lot of wear out of the tops and I'm thrilled I kept the turtleneck.
  • Did they meet or exceed expectations? Met expectations.
  • What’s the return process like? Place the items in the bag, seal it up and that's it!

FINAL THOUGHTS

I'm on a break from the matchmakers because I'm convinced they'll keep sending me people I already know. It's a lot of money to be reintroduced to people from my past! So, I took matters into my own hands and met two guys out in the wild last week.

The first one immediately lied about being employed and then called himself the "black sheep of the family." I will avoid that one—it took me years to get my life back together, and I won't be derailed again.

The second guy is actually employed and divorced with two kids. Out of curiosity, I plugged him into the DC "Are We Dating the Same Guy" group, and OMG, no, thank you. He's been accused of cheating, domestic violence, and manipulation.

No thanks, guys. I'd rather be single.

If shopping were an Olympic sport, I’d be a gold medalist. And while my bank account often feels the crunch, I just can’t stop buying secondhand clothing and accessories, under-the-radar designer goods, stuffed animal unicorns (I have about 75), and toys for my pet bunny rabbit. After 20 years of city slicking in NYC and DC, I now have a car and love to tour the Virginia countryside looking for vintage shops, undiscovered wineries and breweries, historic sites, and Thai restaurants—I’m addicted to Thai food. I never leave home without a spare phone charger because I love horror movies and therefore have an irrational fear of being stranded somewhere with a dead battery.
