What I Got in the Colombia Box
I was thrilled to get to try Universal Yums for the first time! I received the Super Yum Box version of the Colombia Box which included 16 snacks and 1 drink. The snacks consisted of an assortment of chips, candy, chocolate, cake, and cookies. There was a bit of everything in regard to flavor, spanning from known and conformting tastes to bold spins on classics.
La Niña Tocinetas Limón (Bacon and Lime Flavored Snack)
Rating: 4.5/5
Wow, these were so good! I'll admit that when I first saw this snack I wasn't sure if I'd love it for hate it. However, the lime and bacon combo was incredibly savory. Rather than outcompeting the other, the tangy and salty notes blended smoothly and these chips had a great crunchy texture.
Yupi Rizadas Mayonesa (Mayonnaise Flavored Potato Chips)
Rating: 4/5
Nothing crazy here, just some really solid chips. The mayo flavor wasn't over the top, just a slight touch to add some zest and richness. I could see these being popular among just about anyone.
Castipan Gâteau au Café (Coffee Flavored Cake Slice)
Rating: 3/5
Eh, the cake wasn't bad or anything...I just prefer other types of snacks. I'll admit it did pair well with an afternoon cup of coffee, but I wouldn't repeat this one. It had a spongey center, soft frame, and consistent light and sweet taste throughout.
Colombina Brinky Galletas con Crema Sabor a Limón (Sandwich Cookies with Lemon Flavored Cream)
Rating: 4/5
At first I was thining this might be tart, but these were creamy with a hint of zest. I actually liked these way more that I thought I would and they served as a light treat.
Gomitas Play Tortu Splash (Fruit-Flavored Gummies with Strawberry Flavored Filling)
Rating: 5/5
I'm obsessed! I got through the bag in what felt like a minute. These gummies were bursting with flavor and easy to chew. In fact, it almost felt like these gummies just melted in your mouth.
Bon Bon Bum Maracuyá (Passion Fruit Flavored Lollipop with Bubblegum Filling)
Rating: 4/5
Initially I was a bit underwhelmed when seeing lollipops as snacks, but those thoughts quickly dissipated upon tasting these for the first time. This was the most flavorful lollipop I think I've ever tried and didn't have any lack of tropical delight. The gum in the center was a nice way to end each lollipop and its flavor and consistency lasted for a while.
Supercoco Tirudito (Chewy Coconut Candy Sticks)
Rating: 3/5
I've gotta be in the right mood for coconut, and this just wasn't the treat for me. It's consistency is like caramel, but it quickly dissolves into a smooth coconut cream. If you like coconut, then this is up your alley.
Turbana Garlic Plantain Chips (Garlic Flavored Plantain Chips)
Rating: 4/5
I don't have plantain chips all that often, so I enjoyed these quite a bit. I split them with the kids and my littles devoured them with ease. The garlic wasn't overwhelming and helped give the plantains some personality.
La Niña Rosquillas (Cheese Rings)
Rating: 1/5
I was so excited to try out this snack since I love anything related to cheese...but then I took my first bite. Cheese, what cheese? I imagine this is what dog food tastes like. They tasted stale and the texture appeared crunchy but was actually airy and awkward. I can't imagine anyone enjoying these, dogs included.
Chewz Me Chew n’ Crunch Stix (Watermelon, Blue Raspberry, & Strawberry Flavored Chewy Candy)
Rating: 5/5
These looked so fun from the packaging, and let me tell you that the taste-testing was even more thrilling! I got a kick out of these chewy, tart sweets. There were little bites of candy throughout these zesty candy ropes and they were highly addicting.
La Niña Papa Con Sabor Limón (Lime Flavored Potato Chips)
Rating: 4/5
Again, can't go wrong with the classics. The citrus zest paired well with the savory crunch and I enjoyed snacking on these with lunch.
Jet Wafer (Choco Coated Wafer with Vanilla Flavor Cream)
Rating: 3.5/5
Another classic. While I'd prefer something more adventurous, I couldn't complain about getting chcolate-covered wafers. The vanilla cream in the middle made these quite delectable, I just wish I hadn't had them out in the sun for as long as I did (I should honestly know better as a lifetime Floridian).
Jumbo Peanut (Milk Chocolate Bar with Peanuts)
Rating: 3/5
Ok, so I love chocolate but this was a bit nutty. Like, mostly peanuts featuring chocolate. I would've enjoyed this much more if there had been fewer nuts as it felt heavy and too crunchy.
Turbana Green Banana Chips (Crispy Banana Chips with Sriracha Hot Sauce Flavor)
Rating: 4/5
I'm meh when it comes to sriacha, but these were very good. The slight spice was actually a nice added touch and the chips were light and airy.
Colombiana (Sweet Fruity Soda)
Rating: 4.5/5
This drink was quite fun! As the name implies, it was literally just a sweet cherry-like soda. It was quite refreshing during a sunny hot day in Florida and I'd happily revisit this drink.
Coffee Delight (Chewy Coffee Candy)
Rating: 4/5
Simple and sweet! These would make for the perfect office-jar candies. I enjoyed the coffee flavor and caramel-like texture.
El Paraguitas Surtidos de Dulces Con Leche (Assorted Milk Caramels)
Rating: 5/5
Last, but not least, these were some of the best caramels I've ever tried. This assortment came with 6 flavors: traditional (plain), coconut, coffee, fig, orange, and lemon. My personal favorites were coffee and fig, but honestly they were all a dream.
The Verdict
