Silk + Sonder April 2025

April is here, and with it comes chaos! Hank just started junior high baseball, and the practice schedule is a lot. With so much going on, I need the Silk + Sonder planner to keep me organized and on track. Seriously, without this journal to help me manage practices, games, and work, I think I would go crazy!

While Silk + Sonder is a journal, it is also a planner, stress reliever, focus improver, mood booster, and productivity increaser! Centering around a new theme each month, this book has it all, and aligns with my needs perfectly. With 60 pages of amazingness, I look forward to opening this journal each day, and have found it to help keep my anxiety under control.

Authenticity - The quality of being genuine, real, and true to oneself, embracing one's unique identity and values without pretense.

I enjoy the fact that Silk + Sonder chooses themes for each month, and love the fact that the creator Meha is so very thoughtful when choosing each and every one. "Authenticity" was chosen for April, and I found it to be just what I needed going into such a busy, chaotic month. Now, let's get started!

One of my favorite aspects of Silk + Sonder is receiving a new planner each month. Starting "fresh" has been really helpful, as yearly planners tend to make me feel overwhelmed. While this planner does feature an entire year at a glance, the calendar is too small to fill in but big enough to reference for the future. To start my month, I fill in my calendar with the dates I already know and watch the month fly by! This month looks quite a bit different from March, as there's a new sport in town, and due to the spring weather, things are very last minute, which can be tricky. Staying organized is a huge help in managing my anxiety, and being able to quickly reference the calendar at the front of the planner is exactly what I need to manage life without having a panic attack.

On page 6, we open up to a "Future Log." This includes two small calendars for the upcoming months. With just enough space to write small notes, I typically don’t fill this calendar up too much, but seeing June is getting me soooo excited for summer vacay! Yay!! On the opposite side, we have a "Wheel of Life" activity in which you rank ten areas of your life from 1 to 10 based on how fulfilled you feel. This can vary daily, but it's pretty interesting to watch the ebb and flow of these areas and write down ways you can increase the level of fulfillment in each section. It’s been helpful both when things aren’t going my way and even when they are!

Page 8 offers a space to reflect on the previous month. With areas to write down your wins, challenges, and favorite moments, it’s a great way to learn what works and what doesn’t. This page is one of my favorites, as it highlights all of the month's accomplishments. It also features a section to note things you want to start, stop, and continue. March was really busy but also really fun. I had items on every line, which doesn’t happen all the time! My March wins included the state basketball tournament, beading fun, time spent outside, and multiple family birthday parties. My challenges included my mom’s hospital stay and work stress, and my favorite moments were basketball, learning new crafts, and snuggle time with my family. Overall, it was wonderful, and I can’t wait to see what April brings!

I love the inclusion of the monthly intentions page. Here, you set intentions for yourself and re-read them throughout the month. With six categories and six boxes to complete, there’s plenty of room to jot things down. This isn’t necessarily a to-do list, but rather a place to get yourself off to a good start and remind yourself of things you'd like to work on. I have a lot of intentions for April, and most of them stay basically the same. I do, however, want to sell some things on Poshmark this month—maybe this intention page will help me hop to it!

As I mentioned above, this is more than just a planner, and these trackers are proof of that. Pages 10 and 11 offer a mood tracker and a habit tracker. We are given space to fill in our typical moods and track them throughout the month. This is great for identifying patterns, especially for me and my anxiety. I love that these trackers are customizable, allowing you to track exactly how you want in such a pretty way! Silk + Sonder typically ships a week and a half before the next month starts, so while I have created my "keys" for each of these trackers, I haven’t yet started tracking. I have some goals to hit by my niece’s wedding in June, and this fresh monthly start has been key to my motivation! May the month of April be the best yet!

Page 12 offers another tracker, this one being for sleep. I have no trouble in this department, so I usually skip it. The opposing page, however, is another one of my favorites. Page 13 offers a Gratitude Log with thirty lines available for each day of April. It's amazing how much a mindset can change for the better when you start your day off journaling what you are grateful for. I highly recommend it, even if you don't have this particular planner!

This month's theme was "authenticity," and it came with a couple of thoughtful prompts. I was asked to reflect on how being genuine affects my relationships, think about the challenges that stop me from being my true self, and finally, consider what positive changes could happen if I embraced authenticity more. These questions were pretty deep, and I've found myself thinking about them a lot. My answers seem to change daily! It’s incredible to see how much you can grow when you're really intentional about staying positive, and these prompts have helped me dig deeper to find that. On the next page, I was asked to write a letter from my current self to my younger self. I haven’t done it yet, but I’ve definitely been reflecting on it. Will I get to it? Maybe! But even if I don’t write it down, I still appreciate the prompt.

The next activity was one that was new to me. This "Unblocking Procrastination" activity was helpful in identifying why I avoid doing the laundry and how to overcome that avoidance. While I don’t hate the activity, it feels never-ending, and I get overwhelmed by it! I’ve discovered that by listening to audiobooks while going through the entire process and by keeping up with it, I feel better and can relax more!

The opposing page offers a beautiful poem titled "Self Love". Written by Rupi Kaur, this short poem is not only lovely to read but extremely true, and it reminds me to keep working on myself and never give up.

Pages 18 and 19 offer two more fun activities: an adult coloring page and a "Noticing Nature Game" page. I love the adult coloring page and even took out the markers for a little creative fun! I also enjoyed the nature game, and while our cold Minnesota weather didn’t allow me to get outside for this activity, I found that it worked well with one of my houseplants!

Every Silk + Sonder journal comes with a recipe, and this month's recipe included ingredients that I did not have. Let me know if you have tried it though as it looks quite interesting!

On the opposing page, I received a "Self Portrait" page. This space is for you to draw your most trustworthy self. I have not yet completed this activity, but plan on starting it this weekend during my coffee time!

Blank sheets are always helpful and a great place to do some long division, write notes, and jot down addresses!

Each month, we are given some sort of mind puzzle, and this month it was a word scramble. I usually enjoy these, and this month was no different. The first three words I unscrambled happened to be three of the Seven Grandfather Teachings. While I haven’t worked to uncover all of them, I do like to take a glance at them as I plan out my morning. The opposite side features an expense tracker, and while it’s lovely, I don’t fill it out because I use a Google Doc for tracking. Again—use this journal however it works for you!

I love the fact that this journal always starts on a Monday, even if that means it starts the month prior. Here you can see Monday is the 31st of March, and I am ready to take on the week. As far as this journal as a whole goes, I tend to put most of my time into these calendar pages. With sections for meal plans, to-dos, habits and activities, shopping lists, and specific day sections, I write everything here. It keeps me on schedule for each day and feeling accomplished, and there is NOTHING more satisfying than crossing out an item on my list. I also appreciate the extras these sheets have - while I sometimes don't fill out how I want to feel each week, this week I found it helpful to write it down and pray over it. This journal is just so darn helpful!!

Tidying up with one last quote, the dictionary definition of "Sonder," and the back cover, that's all there is to it. I have come to find that a key part of my day is when I sit and fill out my planner with my cup of coffee. This quiet time happens before the kids are awake, and kicks my day off to a good start before I start my school day. It is extremely important for me to keep a consistent schedule for managing my anxiety and creating much more positive life, and this journal definitely is a big help in that.

The Verdict

After a pretty wild March, I am ready to step back into some routine for April. With only two months of school left and a million things to do, Silk + Sonder has become a necessity and without this planner, I'd definitely be lost (as would my husband!) I continue to be impressed with this subscription, and can't wait to see what's in store for May.

I typically tend to allocate about 15-20 minutes a day to this journal and flip from front to back reflecting, adding to, and processing what I have previously written. By the end of the month, my brain feels much more organized and stable. The beauty of this planner is remarkable, and the packable size means I can tote it around in my purse. Being extremely impressed with all aspects, I am really looking forward to discovering more about myself, all while staying organized and offering myself a little daily quiet time and important self-care.
