Amazing Clubs Wine of the Month Subscription Review

Boutique wines delivered straight to your door

Pros:

  • Amazing Clubs wine of the month subscription delivers boutique and award-winning wines that are hard to find in stores.
  • You can choose a three month membership, seasonal membership (every four months), six month membership, or a 12 month membership.
  • Options for delivery include two different bottles of white, two different bottles of red, or one of each for your shipments.
  • A personal profile on the site allows you to see future product shipments, an ability to pause your deliveries, skip a month, or follow up on tracking information once your wine ships.
  • Once your chosen membership has finished, they will not automatically enroll you again. No need to put that reminder in your phone if you need to cancel!
  • Shipping is free within the continental 48 states.

Cons:

  • Amazing Clubs delivers boutique and award-winning wines that are hard to find in stores. Yep, I know I put this as the first bullet point in the Pros section. Nope, it's not a mistake. This club is great for finding unique wines that you may never get a chance to try again. However, if you are looking for your new favorite wine to order each month, you may want to try a different club.
  • There isn't a quiz asking for your taste preferences, so it feels less personal than other wine of the month clubs.
  • They are unable to ship outside of the U.S. due to perishable items.

I like to pretend I'm a wine connoisseur who comes up with descriptive adjectives like, "harmoniously earthy with a touch of ripe berries" (honestly, what does that even mean?). In reality, I just know what I like. I believe that wine is like art. It doesn't matter if the wine is $10 or $100, what matters is whether you like it and if it is worth your hard-earned money.

For me personally, my days tend to revolve around coffee in the morning and wine in the evening. I have two crazy and chaotic adorable and loving little boys, so I pretty much depend on those two beverages to survive. Coffee fuels my day, and a glass of wine at night helps me to chill out and get my mind straight for tomorrow.

Needless to say, I jumped at the chance to review Amazing Clubs Wine of the Month subscription. I've tried a few other wine clubs in the past, and have always had great luck with the wines delivered. So, I was excited to see what showed up at my door.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

All About Amazing Clubs

Amazing Clubs is not just for the oenophiles in your life. They actually have 42 different subscription boxes you can choose from. From bacon and bagels (yes, please!) to neckties and teddy bears, you can pretty much find a subscription box that would suit anyone in your family.

While the plethora of options on their site seems great at first glance, I actually found the website to be a little overwhelming. I went to get information on the wine club, and ended up looking at their hot sauce subscription boxes. Maybe this is what they are aiming for with hopes you will find multiple boxes you want, but I found I had a hard time concentrating on just the wine.

Subscription Details

Your first option when purchasing an Amazing Club Wine of the Month subscription is the frequency. You are able to choose a three month option, seasonal option (every four months), six month option, or a full 12 month subscription. If you choose the three, six, or 12 month option (basically anything but the seasonal), you are also able to choose if you want the boxes delivered monthly or every other month.

Next, you can pick whether you would like both a white and red bottle delivered, all-white, or all-red. This is pretty much where the curation stops with your subscription. There is nowhere to input your preferences or request certain varietals. I am all about trying and finding new wines that I love, but I have never met a chardonnay that I liked. Instead of choosing an all-red box or having to skip a month that has a chardonnay in it, I would have appreciated a preference quiz asking what I like or don't like.

Pricing

If ordering a full year's worth of wine, the monthly price is $43.95 per month. A six month subscription is $44.95 monthly, and the three month or seasonal subscriptions are $45.95 per month.

As your subscription does not renew automatically, it might be beneficial to just try the three month subscription first to see if you like the wine. The discount for the longer subscriptions is only a dollar or two off, which really isn't much of a discount. This would allow you to try the club first without having to go through the hassle of cancelling, if you decided it wasn't for you.

Delivery & Unboxing

The wine arrived safely packaged in a hard cardboard container within the box. (Pro tip: save these if you ever think you will need to check luggage with wine in them! It is a great way to recycle them and keep your wine safe!)

I was however, curious about shipping during the summer with the hotter temperatures. There wasn't any information on their website regarding this, but I was able to use their live help feature on the site. This is the response I received by one of their company representatives:

"Hi. We do have an advisory that went out for this month about delaying orders a month due to the weather. Customers can change back to this month if the don't mind the risk. We do send dry ice but with the heat we cannot guarantee it will arrive unspoiled."

Unfortunately, my wine shipment did not contain dry ice. Thankfully however, my wine arrived just fine. As they didn't specify an exact temperature, I was curious as to how they decide which boxes to put the dry ice in. Next summer I would probably just skip the month and not chance it.

Winemakers Newsletter

Each shipment of wine comes with a winemakers newsletter that includes tasting notes, a brief history of the wine region, and an overview of the grape varietal. I found the tasting notes to be pretty accurate to the flavors I detected in the wines. The backside of the newsletter also gives you tips for storing leftover wine (huh? What is that!?) and membership advice. I actually really appreciated their transparency with how to cancel or pause your membership. It gave me confidence that they back their wine choices as well as their membership program.

They'll Love It Guarantee

Amazing Clubs offers a they'll love it guaranteewhich basically states that if you or your chosen recipient do not love the wine each and every month, they will allow you to cancel your membership at any time. If cancelled before the 15th of the month, the cancellation will take effect the same month. However, if cancelled after the 15th, you will have to wait until the following month.

Amazing Clubs Wine Review

Ok, so now on to the wine! What did I think of the individual wines they sent me for the month of July? Overall, I really liked them. They both were light and perfect for sipping on a hot summer day or pairing with a light dish.

Viñedo De Brocado - Aragon Spain - Garnacha

I am a red wine fan every day of the week and will literally do my best to pair food with it, regardless of the dish. I just love it that much! The Viñedo De Brocado was pleasantly light, but without being over the top with fruit flavors. There was a small bit of spice on the nose, but again it was very light and easy drinking. Sipping it on it's own was perfect and could easily be enjoyed without food.

The delicate flavors did not hold up to spicy food, so I would suggest staying away from anything with a bit of a kick to it. It did however taste great with a few hard cheeses we had for an appetizer. If you are like me and want to drink red wine even in the dead of summer, than this Garnacha (Grenache) will be right up your alley!

Hawkesbury Cellars - Pyreneese, Victoria, Australia - Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc is one of those wines that I truly believe is great for any occasion. It goes great with chicken or fish dishes, and light appetizers. It's also the perfect drink of choice when enjoying a hot summer day outside. The Hawkesbury Cellars did not disappoint and fit right into that category. It was on the sweeter side though for a Sauvignon Blanc and I thought tasted more like a Viognier. I didn't taste any of the mineral or grass notes that are overly characteristic of a Sauvignon Blanc.

It actually held up amazingly well to a spicy fish dish we had, which I believe came from that extra bit of sweetness. It was also extremely light on the nose...so much so I actually had a hard time smelling anything! I did get a few small hints of lychee and pear, but not much else. If you are looking for a sauvignon blanc that is a bit different from your usual suspects, this one might do the trick!

My Amazing Clubs, Wine of the Month Club Verdict

If you are looking for more personalization in your wine boxes, this might not be the best club for you. Other than choosing whether you want red, white, or both, there was not an area to specify likes or dislikes. While I enjoyed the wine they sent, the entire experience wasn't nearly as much fun as other wine subscriptions. They seemed a bit outdated in their approach to wine clubs and lacked the diversity and modernity that other clubs have gravitated towards.

However, if you don't care about any of those new, fancy features and just want good solid wine to enjoy with your friends and family, Amazing Clubs wine of the month subscription would be a great addition to your monthly boxes.

The international variety of the wines and the small, boutique selections make this a great option for impressing your wino friends. The pricing is fair and their "they'll love it guarantee" makes this a fairly risk-free option when looking at wine clubs.

In a nutshell? I'm a bit of a walking contradiction!

I love traveling the world and stepping out of my comfort zone, but I can also be a complete introvert and will be totally happy hanging out at home with my family for days on end. I enjoy working out and going for runs or HIIT classes at the gym, but I also have no problem binging on a bag of cheetos and a glass of wine (which pairs surprisingly well together!). I love how I look dressed up and ready to hit the town, but am much more comfortable in a pair of sweats while watching The Mandolorian with my husband and two little boys. I love trying exotic foods and the different spices and textures that come with it, but my all-time-favorite meal is a juicy cheeseburger with fries.

So, maybe I should just call myself well-rounded!? Whatever it is, I keep an open mind about everything and am always on the hunt for a new and exciting adventure!
